I had the same situation. Here is how i got it to work… the white apple device you got needs a 5 volt 2amp source. Get a power supply that connects to your sigarrett lighter that has an output of 5 volts 2amps and plug to the white apple device and you should be able to charge your ipad using that apple addapter and use the HDMI option too. We all need the help we can get. So good luck bud!

I’m currently using your iPad mini 6 dash kit. I run (no head unit) iPad mini 6 gen> Topping D10s Hi Res DAC Digital coax > AudioConrtrol DM 608> to my amps. The DM-698 is mounted behind the iPad in my dash I came up with that idea all by myself WORLDS FIRST😂. Got it all hooked together with an Anker USB-C Hub instead of the apple kit. The topping is an amazing option if you are running a DSP. It’s only $109 and they USB-C hub was $100 but you can get one with less ports for a lot cheaper…

Could use a "active" USBC extension cable where you can Inject power from a different source but have your data going to the stereo. Just have to go USBC to Lighting.

So I have the same set up in my XB. Rafa made it a few years ago. The Sony head unit I have shows the same overload message but it WILL hook up eventually you just have to either keep cycling through the different programs or keep turning your car off and on until it does. It sucks but once it connects and you don’t remove the iPad it stays connected. It’s done it since I’ve installed it.

To bad almost no new units have rear usb for that clean install. I run an old 80-prs, rear usb charges my ipad, auto start stops playback and it has steering wheel controls.

use the universal swivel mount from ProClip USA. mount an Otterbox case to the swivel and put your iPad in the case. simple and clean, rotatable and can swivel

Im somewhat new to the speaker upgrade world. I just bought a pair of Infinity 822MLW speakers for my boat. 2-8" 2 way, rated 150 RMS and 400 Max each. Do you think this head unit alone is enough to power both of those with decent sound? No other speakers/sub involved

What do you do on this iPad dash situations for the iPad to stay on only when charging? Because I tried to configure and either I set autolock to "never" and it stays on indefinitely or it will lock and screen off eventually

I would recommend a USB C to USB-C PD cable. PD=Powerdelivery. This is the standard for Thunderbolt and USB-C. Anker makes a good one and good cables.

If I'm not wrong it is 45rms cea certified, and you can bridge the rear channels and add a lpf to make it a sub channel with 90rms. The headunit does get pretty hot tho and there have been problems from people running this headunit using stock power wires because it draws 20 amps.

It is the high voltage of the quick charger that has damaged the USB2. You can go with a slightly older charger with 5V 2a or 5V 3a. It will charge the device and play music too.

USB C is backwards compatible but with PD(power delivery) if higher voltage is negotiated on one end then it will be delivered on the power line (red) and since it is being used in sync with the headunit (meaning three way between charger, headunit and ipad), the headunit is not able to handle the higher voltage. Which is why when we used to design for USB previously all components would be rated for 5v but now if you design for USB we have to rate all components for 20v.

I ask because I bought the same head unit, and although I'm not trying to do anything fancy with an iPad, I get the same error message most of the time when I plug in my iPhone 11 directly into the rear USB with a lightning cable. Thoughts?

I you wish to have charger and data transfer I would use type C dock from anker. I use it for my phone to connect it to my main screen and add USB drives and charge it all in the same time. one port in it for charging with the type C PD-IN(propobly stands for power delivery) second type C for data. there is also 2 USB A and HDMI and RJ45.

Noise frequently steams from grounding issue. Check those then start isolating equipment. Plug straight into the amp, try the radio, put analog into the head unit. Then try different USB cables and sources. Make sure the head unit is getting good power too.

can you split the HDMI output into two outputs? i want to use this setup but audio out to a headless media receiver, like fusion, but still have my phone as the source and still control it through car CarPlay. The iPhone is programmed to send audio out only through the cord when the car requires cord connection for CarPlay. And that dumb ass camera card was blown money. And the mother trucking iPhone will not stream music, if it is plugged in, and it also will not stream to multiple devices.
