Very nice video, very well explained, quite understandable, acurate mixing...the only thing I would say is not quite acuratte is to put this skills on an intermidiate dj level. It is not super basic, but it is not intermidiate. Anyway, all of you guys... learn it and perfectionate the skill, this is the very very best fundamental for all mixing, specially house, deep house, tropical house (whatever house). Trance, tecno and every warmup set you do on a gig or venue. Let's wait for videos on drop change, scratch, long looping, mixing with samplers and multiple tracks. Some of those will put you between intermidiate and advanced level

Greetings from Ireland Arman. Really love your videos... I would be an old skool DJ from back in da day (1989 to 1993), but in recent years I have re-discovered my love for dance music through the likes of artists like Solomon, Tales of Us, H.O.S.H, Noir, Nicole Moudaber and Carl Cox (I once played support for him in Cork, Ireland. I really like your no-nonsense and clear tutorial style. The only DJing I do these days is for myself using my MacBook Pro (2017) running Djay Pro 2 software. It's very impressive to watch you mix... one day I would love to get some of that gear and take a shot of it myself. Keep up the great videos :)

Another great video mate, greetings from London. What headphones are you using? I've just hooked up my Pioneer HDJ-2000's to my old DJM-500 Mixer (which is still in mint condition) and they don't sound that great. It may be that my needles need replacing (using vinyl). Also, recommend any speakers that don't cost too much? I'm still using a monitor that was made for me in the 90's!

Very insightful video, and well made! As a amateur producer I must say you did one thing I just see as forbidden -namely playing both low ends at the same time, wouldn't that mess up at the very least the kicks if they are evetn slightly different in phase/time/harmonics?? I don't hear that happening here and it puzzles me..

And in Rekordbox you can set up to 10 cue points. I prefer doing like this: 1st cue = Start of the kick 2nd cue = start of 1st break 3rd cue = 1st drop And so on... So you always know when to start fading in or out or when to finish your mix. I.e. your 1st track comes to the last drop and your 2nd track starts with the kick...

@AcidZambies 5 жыл бұрын
Default you cannot, but I think there is some kind of work around that allows for the key tags to be changed to camelot in rekordbox but it requires software and probably a decent chunk of time. Your best bet, if sticking with rekordbox, is to just memorize the wheel of 5ths and their respective camelot codes (it'll also help you understand music better too). Or you could join the denon prime crew :) as the sc5000s and engine prime software support camelot :)

Rayze the differences between those styles as every style in electronic music has nothing to do with vocals!
@514musique

Tech-House: crossover of techno and house. Same Chicago style loops and vocals but with Detroit style basslines and percussion. Quicker than both but it has range between 125-128 bpm Progressive house: faster at 128 bpm, and unlike the grooves of the other genres it's influenced by trance with a focus on melodies and chords with long builds and bridges where the beat drops out. Nowadays it's a catch all for mainroom house Deep house: slower, around 120-123 bpm with a characteristic of Jazz, R&B, or soul sound. Techno influence is pretty easy to hear, but to me it sounds like more modern techno. Pitched down vocals, psychedelic soundscapes, and groovy basslines are the style of deep house.

A low pass and high pass filter sweeps through the frequencies boosting and cutting as you progress. How is that any different than just using the EQs?
@matthartmann2697
@matthartmann2697 4 жыл бұрын
Chudmeat the low pass/high pass boosts the volume of the frequency right next to where it cuts off giving that sweeping effect. EQs don’t do this. With eqs, you take out a chunk of frequencies at the same time, giving you way more control over your mix. With the high pass/ low pass, it generally doesn’t sound as good. What I do generally is always EQ at first and then use the high pass/ low pass on the song I’m mixing out if I need to mix quicker than usual or to give a sweeping effect at the end of a buildup. One thing you also have to be careful with hp/lp is if you are low passing and you cut it all the way down, sometimes it will boost that 20-40 htz range and it will make your mix super muddy so you would also have to take down the upfader. Basically learn how to EQ since it sounds better and use the HP/LP to enhance your mix, but don’t make it your go to.
@waylandsmith
@waylandsmith 4 жыл бұрын
The sweep effect@@matthartmann2697 is talking about will be designated as 'Q', 'Q-factor' or 'resonance' if you're using a filter with parameters on it.

With all respect, this video shows some techniques that should be talked through. You're showing ways to blend 2 tracks as seamless as possible but in reality it doesn't really matter that much. Especially bass. Low bass and sub bass freqs aren't really blend well, so there's no particular reason to leave both lower freqs of your tracks. Same for the high frequencies. Too much of them and your listeners will bleed out of their ears. Those tracks ain't a good example but you got the point. Summing up, that mix where you filter out all highs and mids and blend it with 1st track full on is a bad thing. Bringing in new track with both mids and lows filtered is a bad idea as well, there ain't much of detail in those highs, so you just waste time. There's nothing wrong with mixing noticeably for listeners in a good way. Add 3rd and 4th decks in your setup and you'll realise that you ain't got time for those pointless shenanigans

Sound of Arman why do Dj’s nudge when the tempo is going to go right back to the same speed?
@brianwalsh449
@brianwalsh449 5 жыл бұрын
When you nudge the platter, all you're doing is pushing the beat of the track forward or backward a small amount to line the kicks up so they are right on top of each other. You want the tempos to stay the same so then when you're done moving the track that little bit they will line up and stay in sync with each other. You can also beat match by speeding up and slowing down the tempo of either track using the pitch fader.

it has been deactivated, they move really easily so deactivating it lessens the chance of accidentally moving it when using the faders.. if you prefer to leave the faders up and stay on the crossfader then that's a different story, and use more if you are a scratch dj.. at 12:10 slightly touches the crossfader, not much but in some reckless cases could be catastrophic when live..
