Here I summarize how I tested to see if the wall worked and discuss how effective it is at dampening the sound coming into the house.

Thank you! I'm trying out something very similar. I can't put anything on the ceiling as my shop is in my basement and need access to the plumbing lines, electrical etc. Noise control is proving to be hard so far!

I chose not to mud and tape the drywall so I would still have access to the inside of the walls and wiring if I needed to make changes. It's a workshop, it doesn't have to be pretty! Also, rock wool insulation in the ceiling does wonders for noise control.

Thomas Lightle - Red Barn Woodworking it’s effective without mudding? That’s awesome! I’ll try to install drywalls where I can!

Great results and I am pleased for you, but have no idea how you accomplished your results, so as about as helpful as reading a comment from someone who had good results from soundproofing

I'm glad this worked. I'm considering putting cork or rubber on the top and bottoms of the upper kitchen cabinets to cut down on reverb. Do you think that would work?
@SouthpawWorkshop
@SouthpawWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Possible, but if those cabinets will be screwed or nailed into the wall or ceiling, most vibration will still pass through the fasteners. I used closed-cell foam as it is a very good vibration isolator. Good luck!

@@SouthpawWorkshop Thank you. The cabinets are already installed. Will the fasteners keep most of the kitchen echo from being absorbed?
@SouthpawWorkshop
@SouthpawWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Oh I understand, you want to quiet down the echo in your room. I’m not sure what would help there. There are some good articles online on how to build sound dampening panels that help out with echo, but it would depend on if you have the space for something like that.

@@SouthpawWorkshop Thank you. Yes. The trouble is that I'm not allowed to put anything in or on the walls, or I'd go to town on panels. I'll figure something out. Insulation on top and cork adhered to the bottom of the cabinets with something behind the fridge seem my best option besides mats under rugs.

I couldn't find the first video on soundproofing unless it was just the one where you put some insulation between studs and then put sheetrock on top? if so, was that all you did to improve the sound transference?

There is a 3 to 4 inch air gap between the new wall and the existing wall. This combined with the insulation and drywall make for an effective sound barrier. I go over the plan extensively in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/odyYmcScuL_Ih4U.html Thanks for watching!

10db is quite a bit! Decibel is logarithmic scale! I'm finding noise cancellation is not easy and costs a lot of money!
