Thanks Steve for this detailed explanation. Concerning the optical connection, you didn’t mention the BS Core. I think it also sports a volume control for Toslink, isn’t it?

Thanks! Sorry, I should have mentioned the Core, yes it can be set to have a volume regulated optical output for connection to Beolab 17 speakers.

Hi Steve ! Thanks for the great video. I have the Beolab 17's and I adore them..the sound, the look...however I've also got the receiver and transmitter with the remote control . I absolutely am fed up with the whole wireless system..its always dropping out or needs rebooting..;takes AGEs for the sound to get to the speakers. I think I'd really like to go back to a more simple wired solution that immediately works, no fuss, no waiting, no updates, no rebooting.. What would you suggest ? An amplifier with a preamp out that can manage the Beolabs and a simple aux in for my ipad with my library...
@soundsheavenly3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, a wired solution is always best, you can use any music streamer such as the B&O Core, Sonos Port or Connect, Bluesound Node 2i or Airport Express. Please let me know which one you prefer and I can help you to get everything connected.

I have Bluesound Pulse-2 at the moment but they are very, very unreliable and constantly need resetting. Do you think these would suffer the same issue? Also, can I connect a turntable to these while they are still in wireless mode or do they both need to be wired?
@soundsheavenly3 жыл бұрын
Beolab 17 aren't "all in one" streaming speakers like the Pulse-2, they are only wireless when used with a B&O system. This means that you need to add a separate streamer like Bluesound Node 2i if you want to stream music or connect a turntable. Please feel free to get in touch at soundsheavenly.com with details of the streamer and turntable that you want to connect and I can help you to get everything working without drop-outs.

Hi Steve, I’ve just got a set of beo lab 17 speakers and an BS core also but not 100% sure on the setup and cabling to use and hoping you can help please. I am assuming power link Ethernet from bs core to one speaker, then a second Ethernet cable from power link speaker one to speaker two. Also, what grade Ethernet cable should be used if not using genuine b&o cables? Finally, I wanted to link my non b&o tv to the speakers, I don’t think that I can do this via the BS core as it doesn’t have an optical in. Any ideas/thoughts on this and if it is even possible. Many thanks,

Hi Steve, thanks for all your good content. Do you know if BL17 also switches automatically between wireless and wired connections depending on input? Another one. Standby: Do they turn off automatically at no input or would you turn them off completely after listening?
@soundsheavenly3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. Beolab 17 needs to be manually switched between wired or wireless setup, they won't switch automatically. I don't recommend trying to use them with both wired and wireless inputs, you need to choose one or the other. However they will go to standby automatically 3 minutes after the music stops on the wired Line input.

Hi there Steve, been following your videos and I became attracted more and more into the Bang & Olufsen world, so much so that I recently bought a pair of Beolab 17 with the Beolab 19 subwoofer combo. Only issue I have is connecting them to my Sony Bravia TV. I got the speakers used and I got an Essence box with them. I really want to use the wireless capability, but from what I understand from reading the BeoWorld Forum is that I need a Transmitter 1. But again from what I read I will not be able to controll my Tv volume with the Tv remote. Can I use the Essence for that ? Connecting would be TV to Essence to Transmitter or the other way arround, TV to Transmiter to Essence?
@soundsheavenly3 жыл бұрын
Glad you like my videos! Please connect the tv the the Essence, then link the Essence to the Transmitter 1 for wireless music to the speakers. Please feel free to get in touch via the contact page at soundsheavenly.com if you need any help with the connections!

Hi Steve. I would like to thank you for the work done in the audio review. Beolab 17 is a great product, but I would like to ask your opinion on beosound 2. Is it possible to connect beosound 2 to beovision (horizon, eclipse) ? If possible, what is better for sounding TV beosound 2 or beolab 17. Thank you in advance.
@soundsheavenly3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Beosound 2 is best used as a stand-alone speaker, ie. separate from a TV, due to the way that it spreads its sound in all directions. Beolab 17 would be the best option for adding to a B&O TV via these cables: soundsheavenly.com/powerlink-rj45-cat5-connection-models-from-2013/28-2264-rj45-powerlink-compatible-shielded-cable-for-beolab-speakers-2013-and-newer.html#/3-length-2m/18-colour-black

Hello Steve, Question. For music listening sound quality only - Beolab 17 or Beosound Stage?
@soundsheavenly3 жыл бұрын
Hello! For music listening, Beolab 17 are by far the best option - great sound and as they are separate speakers you can position them for perfect stereo imaging. Stage is good for TV use, but Beolab 17 would be my own choice. Please ask if you need any help with cables!

Would the BL17 play little better with optical cable than Powerlink to Beosound Core?
@soundsheavenly3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Powerlink lets the Core do the digital to analogue conversion, but optical lets the speaker do the conversion. Some people prefer the sound of the optical connection, but I find them both to be very similar. Please let me know which one sounds better to you, I can help with cables for either option!

@@soundsheavenly I need optical cables in pairs of about 3 meters. I think the org. Powerlink cables makes some hum from the treble at close distance to the speaker, can be heard when no music is playing and you are closer than 0.5 meters to it.

Do you know if the upcoming harman kardon citation amp has the variable optical?
@soundsheavenly3 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry I don't know about Harman Kardon products. Very few devices have variable optical outputs, the only ones I know of are the B&O Core and Sonos Port/Connect, all other optical outputs are usually fixed volume, so not suitable for use with Beolab speakers.
@razzogatto79603 жыл бұрын
@@soundsheavenly thanks! Guess I'll have to pass on bang and olufsen then since I'll not buy a sonos product. What do I have to look for to see if a product has the variable optical thingy? :)

@@razzogatto7960 If it helps, I recall Apple's Airport Express also has a variable optical output, also some Bluesound music streamers can have their optical outputs set to variable (so no need to give up on B&O speakers!)
