Marantz's SACD 30n SACD/CD player-DAC-preamplifier sells for $2599 in the US. On March 1, 2021, Gordon Brockhouse reviewed the SACD 30n for SoundStage! Simplifi and wrote: "From the foregoing, it should be clear that I loved what I heard from the Marantz SACD 30n through my Elac active speakers and HiFiMan headphones. Throughout my listening, I admired the player’s warm, inviting, muscular sound."

CD players, SACD players never stops, only cheap brands stop to make them, not premium brands like marantz, luxman, and many more.

I was dithering between a Marantz 30n and a Bluesound Node 3....I decided to buy the 30n in Silver...I liked the idea of having a quality CD/SCAD player and the streaming versatility of the Marantz. I am also familiar with the pros and cons of HEOS, so I will have no surprises there. I got a very decent deal on a 30n that will be shipping 2moro morning. Expensive...but it will mate nicely with my Schiit Freya Preamp and 40-year-old Carver C-500 Amp. I like the idea of having a substantial piece of Streaming/CD architecture in my setup. Should be sweet! 👍🏼 Thanks Jay!

I had the Marantz SAD 30n player over a year and absolutely loved it. It is well built (all metal case even with the remote face), and performance is the best at the $3K range. Highly recommanded.

Well done Jay! I have no idea that you are also here... I received my unit in February and it is outstanding. BUT.. the HEOS kinda sucks for streaming (Amazon Music HD). Search function is very weak so I search for the track / album I want using Amazon Music app first then jump over to HEOS, hoping it finds it. I get about 50% success rate in locating the track the first search.. I hope HEOS search significantly improves. I may get a Bluesound Node 2 when available to do the online streaming. It also does UPnP and other methods to access your LOCAL streaming content. It would be one of the best units out there had its Bluetooth supported AptxHD and LDAC AND if they fix the HEOS search. It is built like a TANK.. No clue what make up the almost 30 pounds but it sure is impressive. The accompanying Model30 integrated AMP is also getting rave reviews but I just bought a tube amp not that long ago and don't think I can go back to SS. :)

Technics SL-G700 is a very similarly capable SACD/CD/Network streamer with fixed/variable balanced and unbalanced output for $3000. The Technics app is no where near as polished as HEOS, but I would be interested to see how it would stack up against the Marantz.

I've had the Technics for 3 years, recently I passed from the Technics to the Marantz. The Technics was a very good cd player but had mediocre quality playing files/streaming. The Marantz is an exceptional cd player with a very unique sound (sounds analog) and almost same level when playing files (yes, cd playback is still the king).

Hi, quick question...I usualy play cd's using an asus cd player + foobar2000 + ifi zen dac on my PC. Do you think is a huge difference playing cd on this units compared what I already have? thanks in advance.

Hi , did you put settings in heos in high ? Its not high by default and sound so so when streaming . Big diffrence if you change to high . Its just awesome , I use model 30 combo with klipsch rf7 mk3 its awesome . Used Hegel h360 before . Marantz 30 is alot better at My home 🎸

How do you change to:"high"? I looked in the settings in my app and see nothing like that? What does the term …"high" refer to? Have never heard of this?

This unit sounds great on its own & the differences in sound between DACS are just minor differences in depths and widths and decays usually… I’ve had various high end DACs over the years prior to the Marantz

Thanks again for a useful and informative review. On the streaming not being good, I’ve have not yet managed to like streaming with Marantz products. I have the ND8006 which I believe was the best Marantz streamer before this unit was released. I don’t know how the device you’re reviewing now compares to the ND8006 in as far as the streaming functionality is concerned. In South Africa we literally only have 2 streaming services with hires capabilities. We have Apple Music which is very frustrating given that it is not really user friendly on the software side of things. Setting up Apple Music to be able to get hires music properly is really frustrating. Then we also have Tidal which only offers hires in MQA. I think the DAC in the Nd8006 is not MQA compatible, or HEOS is not MQA certified, but I am not able to enjoy MQA fully on ND8006. It would be interesting to fully enjoy hires streaming on Marantz products.

Does this sound good with the Cornwalls? I'm struggling to find a streaming amp for those, they're so sensitive the really make me the noise floor apparent.

I was just watching a video recently where the KZfaqr was saying that the Decware amp (the cheapest one, it's like 2.7 watts per, or 6 watts bridged. And they go for about a grand.) is by far the quietest one he's had on his Cornwalls. And probably the best sounding too. I would then get a nice DAC with high output voltage, and extremely low distortion, like my Topping D70S MQA. And then add a PI2AES unit, connected via i2s (HDMI connectors). Won't get much better then that for low noise, and won't cost a fortune either. I think Steve at Decware makes a version with XLR too. I would get two of them custom made for XLR (hopefully true balanced), and bridge them. Should give you plenty of power, great sound, and no noise. And with 5 volts coming out of the DAC into those amps. You'll never need a preamp. Plus you'll have a remote for the volume on the DAC. I'm doing something similar, only I'm using 300 watts per side (using 1 Crown XLS 1502) on my 91db speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 11.4's), and a Pro-ject Streambox S2 Ultra instead of the less noisy streamer I suggested above. And there's hardly any noise, despite this amp being infamous for having a very high noise floor. And not said to work well with speakers of 90db, or more. And this is with the gain controls almost all the way up. The level only increases slightly, if I go all the way, but only slightly. And again this is with an amp known for having a high noise floor. I would expect zero noise with the setup I suggested. ZERO! Another alternative would be some other modern amp that's known for being quiet too. Neither my Exposure 3010 S2-D, nor my Hypex Ncore make any noise when set changed out for the Crown in the same setup. So that would work too. But IMO tube amps sound way better on Klipsch speakers, and there's very few that have such a low noise floor as the Decware, without spending more. Especially since one of those will easily power your speakers, unless you have A HUGE room. Those speakers are a very easy load, and the Decware has quite a kick for such a small amp. Or so I'm told anyway, and add I believe it. That to be would be a dream setup. Good luck either way. ✌️ Oh almost forgot. Another great choice is the Matrix Element series of streamer/DACs. They'll cost you more, as they're pretty high end. But are very, very good. And the top one actually has a real preamp in it. So there's plenty of voltage to power the amps without needing an external preamp. And I think they all have a higher then normal (normal is 2 volts) output. The top one (Element X I think) hooked to the Decware would be super sweet IMHO.

Oh, and this isn't an amp BTW. There is a matching amp to it though. It's the Marantz Model 30. And it's very nice. But I'm not sure about the noise floor. And if you're worried about noise. I highly recommend you try to use balanced connections as much as possible. Using the XLR connections vs the RCA in my setup has a noticeable difference in the noise floor, as well as twice the output voltage going to my amp. High output voltage on your source is also highly recommended As IMO. You want headroom, if you can get it. And that's what it will give you. ✌️

Just received my SACD 30N today. I paired it with my new LS50 wireless ll. My first impression is Wow. I played couple of SACD and CD and they player sounds amazing. It is warm and opened. And I compared Apple play with the LS50 wireless ll and the SACD 30N. It sounds very different. The 30N has more details and sounds so much better. I could not believe it. It is like way better. The LS50 wireless ll sounds good but relatively too bright and tiring. Now I wonder if the Mark Levinson Network CD player would sound even better as it costs double. CD/SACD rocks.

Also, I keep loosing AirPlay connection with the LS50 wireless ll. Connection with the 30N is solid.

I use the BubbleUPnP app to stream Qobuz via the Marantz SADC 30n. The built-in HEOS for everything else

So, this thing actually decodes the DSD signal on the SACD's, unlike so many other "SACD" players?

Are you serious? Some SACD players don’t decode the DSD layer? I was thinking about an Arcam CDS50 SACD player, now I’ll have to check which layer is decoded.

@@shahidyt Your Arcam converts DSD to PCM, then further converts the PCM to analog. Players like the Oppo 203/205, the Marantz 30N, and the Technics SL-G700 converts DSD directly to analog.

SACD has the potential to support multichannel playback, but this is a stereo unit.

SACD started as a 2 channel format. In fact, Sony mandates a stereo (or mono) DSD mix in order for a disc to be considered a SACD; multichannel DSD mix is optional.

SACDs are the best thing ever happened to audio. They are the biggest middle finger to MQA. and I love them for that. FYI sacd are basically a dsd version of normal cd so all those who don't like dsd but love sacd are idiots. DSD does make a difference at least to me. What do you guys think?

Q: "Why not both?" A: Because each function has noise. Preamps add noise, volume controls add noise, disc player adds noise, the DAC adds noise, streamers add noise...

i own the Amp and the player 30n and the player will be the last thing i will let go of my HIFI setup it is superb in sound quility and build like a tank plus it is more heavy than the amp 30 that i think is funny, they have put a lot of work in to this unit, and with the SACD i exsperince more bass and soundstage than playing with Tidal or Spotify

@@baldving86 Thanks. I have been considering this pair with Dynaudio Evoke 30s speakers but want to look at other speakers. Not many reviewers mention specific speaker matches for the Marantz Model 30s. My local dealer recommends B&W but not a fan.

The marantz amplifire will fit them good the amplifire have good image and soundstage will fit that pair and you will enjoy the sound.

I have a bunch of SACD's and do they win the prize for disappointment. They seemed to have pick the worse most aged recordings, or just copied CD straight to SACD. Perhaps as someone said my player doesn't decode the DSD? Well, I ain't spending $2.5K now to find out. No wonder the SACD format never took off! My only good disc is Rumors - Fleetwood Mac on DVD Audio at 96Khz 24 bit. But that's totally eclipsed by the new David Guetta version featuring Lanie Gardner on MQA - the resolution of which just blows me away.

Since it's a single-ended design and not a true-balanced one, having additional circuitry for balanced output might actually degrade the sound and needlessly add to the price.
