In today's video we are back in the woodyard for Part III of our souped-up log splitter series. This time, we upgraded the cylinder on our 322-24 log splitter in a major way, going from a 2.25" rod diameter to a 3" rod diameter. This increased power should make the retract of the cylinder significantly faster. We also moved from an 8 gallon tank to a 12 gallon tank.
Our question: would these changes get us down to the magical 5 second cycle time?
In our last installment, we were a little over 6 seconds, check that video out here:
• Souped-up 300-Series L...
And here is Part I:
• Souped up 300-Series R...
We are excited to continue this series and would love to hear from you on your ideas about how to tinker with it. Let us know in the comments!

Looking good guys! Maybe at a dump valve to help keep fluid temperatures down so all that fluid doesn’t have to go back through the valve

Please add this cylinder for sale in your line of cylinders. With the double pin mount on the rear. Also add another 3/4 port for a dump valve. Thanks for the nice vid.

So as a hot rodder: yes try to gain speed in smoothing flow and opening up restrictions. E.g. Many hydro cylinders and valves have a smaller orifice and sharp corners beneath the fitting. I imagine more speed will come from cranking up the throttle.

Maybe offer it as model in the 700 line? The 700-SuperFast has a nice ring to it!

Pretty fast! I gotta say what is intriguing about your splitters is the smaller footprint! Doesn’t look like it is that much bigger than my boxer.🤔 Nice work Fellas👊🏻

64gpms on the return stroke base port. Definitely need an option of a dump valve. Might just as well have option of auto cycle too. These are great splitters for the price.

Nice upgrade I would like to see a cylinder for the 4 and 6 way wedges.

Add bigger diameter hoses too. Get rid of that restriction. Maybe bigger a valve.

If you are going to hot rod then hot rod! 1. Bigger carburetor 2. bigger exhaust 3. biggers hoses 4. no angle fittings 5. Port out the restrictions in the valve body, cylinder , and pump. 5. Figure a dump valve for the return flow on the retract stroke

Auto cycle be nice. And I have your 4.5 by 2.25 cylinder hooked up to a predator 420 with a 19gpm pump I'm seeing around 7 sec times and my hydro tank is a 25 gallon but I only buy around 18 ish in it work perfect

I would definitely be interested in you guys offering an upgrade kit. I have a homemade splitter with a painfully slow cycle time, but it does have a GX390 and a 25 gallon hydraulic tank. What do you think would be the best pump to get the optimum performance matched with that engine?

Technically speaking, the minimum recommended engine size for a 22 GPM pump is 390cc (the GX390 is 389cc), so your engine should have no issues turning that pump. What size cylinder does your splitter have?

Thays fast, now get the stopblock set at like 18" make it even faster ey? Or well, it looks to be at 18ish inches already. Would be cool to see a mod to the 737 series also, any plans for that? How about a 6 way wedge?

We're always making improvements to our splitters and appreciate all the feedback we get from our fans and customers. We do have a slip-on 6-way blade available: ruggedmade.com/log-splitter-wedge-6-way-slip-on.html

Awesome! When will it be available to buy? Can you add a hydraulically adjustable 4-way wedge that when dropped all the way down is low enough to be a single wedge? (No need to manually take the 4-way on/off while splitting)
