Last year, I attended BMW Mfest, where they had professional drifters with all the safety precautions, etc. I won't lie; it was beautiful and elegant to watch. But when the Gusheshes came out, the entire crowd, including myself, stood up and went wild. 😂😂😂 This is a different kind of thrill.

I'm 35 years old, and ever since I was a little kid I've seen South Africans spinning cars, especially BMWs, at weddings and street bashes. The girl who says her dad came up with the idea is lying. It is an old South African tradition although it has only recently become sponsored and professional.

I am from Malawi but there was a crew of Malawian gangsters who tried to imitate South African gangsters by spinning Gusheshes when I was growing up. It didn't last long though.

I once went to the funeral of a spinner (as a hobby, not professional). On the way to the funeral the hearse was stopped and opened and they spun all around it. I parked my car far away and came to watch on foot. They made sure to park on a sandy area so it was dusty and dramatic😅 it was awesome, and a sad tribute but mostly awesome

You should also check out train surfing. Where most school going kids from the township (hood) will get on top of a moving train for surfing. Even though some have been electrocuted, they still continued with their stunts.

You must watch King Katra the real deal. This sports started with car thieves back in the 80's theyd steal a BMW and spin in the townships(Ghettos) street corners and then drive off after our freedom they started booking proper venues.

@@TheDemouchetsREACT Normaly theyd steal in white neighbourhoods and spin in black neighbourhoods using the mantra: "Asispini ekasi asitshontsheli udakhi" We dont steal in the ghetto we dont steal from the black man. So thieves were safe in the ghettos. "AMAGINTSA" is the word used for them. After stealing from white hoods they come to ekasi (black hoods) to spin in a particular corner as a celebration. Even the name spin became synonymous with "steal a car" when you say "so and so steals cars" ud say "hes spins cars". Sometime Their chicks would hang out the windows to celebrate. The same would happen in their funerals. After pur freedom it became an illegal sport at night in chosen spaces. Eventually someone decided to book a venue and formalise the sport

Spinning just didn't start in Johannesburg it was and is a huge thing in cape town aswell just search eddierasta, kraaifontein spinners and more and spinning is normal sport just f1 and nascar and wasn't all just BMWs we have a mixed race of car brands like ford and nissan

She may have never seen it before since she was young and new to the sport but it had long been a culture.

One of the spots (wheels and smoke) there its in the South East of Johannesburg, located near Mall of the South. They do it every Thursday. I am not sure about the other sports.

@@naciakoketso6636 Katra is very young . Spinning started in Soweto townships like Pimville in the early 80s. This is before the Gusheshe culture. It spread to every single township in Soweto throughout the mid 80s because that's how gangsters from each township flexed to each other and became famous . Then it grew to illegal street and public road competitions in the 90s. Then went to safe venues in the early 2000s. A popular one in Joburg was Shareworld. Spinning has a long history.

I'm south African from Cape Town I race and spin what they do how they do it hanging out the car & letting the car spin on its own is in my opinion wreckless they not experts they just spinning a gun with 1 bullet in playing roulette they just lucky no matter how much practice or how many times u do it it can still go wrong & when it goes wrong it's a mess I don't feel the need to Leav my car spinning on its own coz the way our spinning areas are setup if it goes wrong u gonna hurt or kill ppl that's why I'm more into drifting spinning for me became to dangerous but yeah that's how we roll down here lol

Growing up with it i domt find it cool no more, yea it was fun to watch but with it happening every weekend then it quickly gets old. We saw a lot of people die and one of the best guys to do it was called Terminator. He died while doing a show when he slipped out and the car spun over him. Otherwise its pretty meh
