South Dakota was the destination of my FIRST MERRIAMS GOBBLER many many years ago. It was a GRAND SLAM goal that morphed into so much more and eventually, landed me here- where I am today. It was the western ground that planted that western seed. I happen to believe it was the place that showed me what was truly possible through effort. #pinhotiproject #turkeyhunting #hunting

Mad respect for giving way to that couple who'd been working that first turkey. We need more people like you in the woods!!

Admire your efforts and accomplishments. Enjoyed your “rant”! The rapidity of change via technology, while providing quick acquisition of info for things like a good hunt spot. Removes the human element you eloquently referenced. The effort and real sense of challenge, accomplishment and confidence acquired. Keep plugging away Dave and thank you.

I felt that rant at the end. I have located places like this in PA for myself and a few of my select family members by countless hours of e-scouting. I do not share the information with many people though because a lot of people to do not appreciate the time and energy this takes.

Hard to beat a white tip in the big pines! Especially is such open terrain! Always love watching Dave and always seem to learn something!

Monday, I hunted Shawnee National Forest for the first time. Looked at the contours and high spots, went to the spot, heard the gobbles, went to them, and hiked a 25 lb gobbler an hour back to the truck. I sat down at the tree (minus the cigar) and pretty much had your same conclusion. Thanks for putting it in words.

You nailed it with what you said there at the end.. I did that this past season for ducks in Nebraska. Hunting public with no prior knowledge of anything.. the birds were few and far between and the ice kicked my ass, but I enjoyed every second of that week long diy trip.

I went out this morning an hour and a half before light, heard a the first gobble at 6:10, waited for a bird to gobble closer till 6:20, finally found a spot I liked and sat down at 6:35, tagged a nice 22# bird at 6:51, and was back at the truck at 7:15. 😀. Only problem is I have to go back work the rest of the week and wait till next year to hunt turkey in southern Illinois.🤨 Missouri soon!!!!

I have several times. Never had an issue with them being aggressive. They just move about their business as if I'm not there or run.
