This production was an absolute triumph. Reba is the real deal. Superb performance, beautifully paired with Brian.

It had to be an emotional moment for Reba. She wasn't exactly in her element as Broadway and Country aren't exactly the same. Yet, she was perfect as Nellie and you could tell she was amazed at the voice that came from Brian Stokes Mitchell. Her tears at the end were for her character and for herself, I believe.

And there was not a dry eye in the HOUSE! BRAVO. Reba, Brian Superb. I have always loved this R&H musical. The songs are so beautiful. Reba, Brian and Jason do them justice. I saw Reba when she was just starting her career do a show at Carnegie Hall. She sang a song A Capella, and brought the house down. I loved Brian in Man of La Mancha. His voice is spectacular. Thanks for posting this.

I think the people attending that night were witness to why Carnegie Hall is what it is. That hall brings out the best in any performer, and Reba was spectacular. All the cast, superb. A night I am sorry to have missed. Reba showed suh genuine emotion at the end, that you could feel it yourself. What a night. How much were tickets that night? Priceless.

Cried my eyes out in the end seeing how emotional Reba was. It s like she was so honored to had performed in tha stage. The stage. Also, I didn't see Reba the country singer, I saw an ex extremely talented actor/artist. 🙌🧡

Gorgeous performance. 1 complaint- no need to repeatedly say “Jap” in play that teaches against race hate.
@tgp-rq2wi3 жыл бұрын
This was written in 1948-1949 right after WW II. They didn't do 'politically correct' for people who had no idea of the issues, who had no sense of history, or who were pansies. The Japanese killed over 100,000 American soldiers, not counting those killed at Pearl Harbor. They were barbaric. I suggest you take a good history class, read some good history books, and understand what the war was about. It had nothing to do with 'race hate'. Japanese is not a 'race'. Japan is a country and we were at war.

What is this yellow washing. Why is it okay to let black kids play polynesians?

@elfantgirl13 жыл бұрын
The short story the romance is based on was set on the island of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. The inhabitants are predominantly Melanesian, not Polynesian, and very dark-skinned. In casting, directors have often substituted Black actors for Melanesians. Liat was Tonkinese - Tonkin region is in North Vietnam - so she would have been much lighter-skinned.
