Well done Gary. Beautifully narrated by Tom Kelly. "Those dark, gloomy arches underlined that. The arches for some, however, were a playground." Beautiful.

Thank you Gary for the lovely video.. much appreciated!.. but .. John Kirkpatrick was a stretcher bearer for the Australian Army.. he left for Gallipoli, from the State I now live, from the Port of Albany.. and the land on which I now live.. was their campsite, before they left on the ship that took them to the Port.. he’s Australia’s dearest hero.. and a war memorial of him is positioned outside our Parliament in Canberra.. It was so disheartening to see, when I returned to Shields, to see his memorial, covered in bird droppings, so much so, the features were unrecognisable.. I wanted to get a bucket and scrubbing brush, and clean it!.. so very hard to believe.. that his memorial in Canberra is kept meticulously.. yet not his own town.. Loved your video Gary.. maybe, it would be an idea, to make a video.. of all the wonderful Geordies, who went overseas, and conquered great feats because of their Geordie up bringing.. and they were many!.. My love to you all, from Western Australia..

I played in the 6 little Arches when I was a kid, was only 8 at the time before they got knocked down.. We would walk through them every day going to the Wood yard On Commercial Road.. We would fill a barrow full of off cuts of wood & logs, 8 years old making couple pound a week, Never had a problem selling it around the doors.. Good Times good memories.. To be honest I sure miss them days.. second time around on the corner of Boldon Lane, I'm sure it was still there when they knocked Wrights biscuit factory down back in 1983.. The copper piping what come out of Wright biscuit factory.. I think half of South shields were taking it.. I remember some old guy who took all the old oak floor out of the west park church back in 1987 Over the road from Sainsbury's what used to be the west park pub.. It was getting knocked down at the time, What was rubbish to other people was gold dust to others.. Some was saying the old street signs off the flats.. Lord Nelson Street, Dock Street & other signs are now hanging in a bar in South Shields... I remember me father getting a old door off the houses they knocked down behind Boldon Lane years ago.. My uncle was on the committee was called the railway club on the corner of Tyne Dock before they knocked half of it down back in the 80s.. It's Harle Peel Bottled Gas Supplies now.. I could name hundreds of streets & bars what are sadly not here.. Same with the shipyards.. Bob who owned The Holborn Rose & Crown... Sadly past away couple years ago. They pulled the pub down as well..
