Floods in South Sudan have forced hundreds of thousands of people out of their homes.
Crops have been destroyed and grazing land for herding communities has been reduced.
Half of South Sudan's 11 million people depend on food assistance.
Al Jazeera's Haru Mutasa reports from Fangak, in Jonglei state.

Hello. The Nile has been flodding anually for millenia. The Egiptians had a calendar that consisted of 3 seasons: Flood, plant and harvest. And consisted of 365 days. Why say this? Because the Ancient egiptians knew this cycle SO WELL, they even Built Piramids to TELL EVERYONE about it. The 3 pyramids align with SIRIUS...and on the 20th of November of every year, Sirius is seen raising paralled with the sun in the morning, visible in daylight. It marks the Beginning of the flooding season, with Lasts 4 months! Why everyone ignores the cycles is just a joke designed to pull resources into africa.

Nile flooding is part of our history along this very river of our ancestors. We can do very well with this flood more than without. Let no one think that Jonglei Canal is an option. Nile waters can not be sold or exchange. It is ours whether it floods for centuries it is our link with our ancient fathers who live before us on this very land.

We pray 🙏 for desert 🏜 people, too. Desert people are in permanent nightmare worse than flooding. Nile seasonal flooding is part of our ancient way of life. Our ancestors had this kind of flooding. They visit this land to check on us and to bless us. We defended and we will always defend this water at all cost. The SPLA set Jonglei Canal on fire 🔥 in 1980s to protect this water for generations to come.

Ok yes! But also they could store the water and use it to their advantage. Be creative. Next thing we know it’ll be drought and then they won’t have water!!? Like if climate change is happening at least we need to adapt. And yes these people have not really contributed but I’m sure they are smart enough to figure out ways to adapt and rather than force them to depend on other countries we should empower them to build better lives and adapt!!!!

We must not consider any problem in our everyday life is due to climate change, because our nature as human being with logic thinking let us able to acclimatize the self for any crisis in order to be able continue our life as we want, but not as the mother nature or others want. That is to say we are totally responsible for what we do, but not others or the mother nature; unless others have dealt with us in absolutely corrupt and criminal way; at that time others become totally responsible for what they do and they must pay to us for their bad behaviour towards us.

They should adapt. Why isn't someone training them. They have the key element, WATER. Floating foam sheets with planters can grow food in that water. Stock the flooded plains with fish. Grow rice is shallows and add crawdads, delicious. Come on folks, they need training on how to adapt. Adaptation doesn't seem to be goal of bureaucracy.

@@Crashed131963 , just as I said, flooding is seasonal not permanent like desertification. I don't know about how desert was green 6000 years ago may desert people can testify on that, but I do know our ancestors have live along this river for thousands of years. The Nilotic People who own this land move with their animals to the higher ground when the flood season comes and return later when the flood is over. You see the huts 🛖 they built are not only ancestoral but actually seasonal. They can easily be build when flooding is over. By the way, the land gets it fertility through such seasonal flooding.
