Pai sau (批手) literally translates to peeling/shaving/slicing hand. It utilizes the entire length of the forearm and the hand so, like Captain America, you can imagine it as almost a shield where you can parry, deflect, and block an attack but also use it to deal blunt force trauma.

Evo.. Great to find you again and thanks for the good stuff. It would be really cool for you and Ninja Nate to discuss strategies for moves. Question: I feel that Southern Mantis is a good style for tall people, what do you think? I see a lot of videos about how to deal with a taller opponent, but it would be great to see videos on tactics for the tall guy to use with advantage.
@EvosBasics
@EvosBasics 4 жыл бұрын
Regardless if you're tall or short, I would say there are options for taller and shorter practitioners. The art is the same, just different tactics. Cheers!

I think my current teacher is fairly tall and the guy who first introduced me to this style was fairly tall also, however my senior brother Si Sihing or something like that (my Chinese not good at all :D), is a bit short and had done a fair number of martial arts including MMA, Krav Maga and wrestling before he took up Chow Gar. He said he liked Chow Gar because height and pure strength didn't matter as much as in some of the prior arts he'd tried so it was a better fit for him. As for tactics for tall guys to use as an advantage, being tall and strong is always an advantage, sure there are options to deal with size and strength but they can use those too plus they're tall and strong as well. I guess maybe if you are very tall then maybe you wouldn't bother so much with pai sau or pok sau or the other stuff, you could just use the gow choy hammer fist on the top of their head like they are an actual nail ha ha :D, just joking, I'm still a beginner really so don't actually know how you would adapt it for your height.

just a question about the forming of the hand, I was taught to have the thumb pressing the middle joint of the index finger, but I note your thumb is underneath the fingers. Is this how you were taught?
@EvosBasics

thats totally okay too! I have my thumb pressed on the first joint of the index if you take a closer look, Cheers! =]

@@EvosBasics I mean on the side of the finger joint, in your video you have the thumb under the index finger touching the outside of the last knuckle (where I can see)

Why do you stick your little finger out a bit? Won't it break if you punch someone?
@1mataleo1

You don’t punch with that fist. This technique is a bridging or striking technique that uses the forearm.
