The judge should have said after the FIRST objection: Sit diown and be quiet: you have an attorney and have been denied self-representation. If you speak again you will be removed from the courtroom.

In Lithuania we have a group of former Soviet Citizens who are "resident" but have for 30 years refuse to either accept Lithuanian citizenship or citizenship of another former Soviet country. For example Russia or Belarus. For some reason the government decided not to expel them. For amusement I personally describe them as Sov Cits. Because in some case the do remind me of Sovereign Citizens in their arguments if ever dragged into court as well as how they act towards the police. They will aggressively deny the authority of the police and courts authority claiming we usurped the authority of the USSR and are in rebellion against the true legal authority. In their eyes the Soviet Union. Between WW1 and the end of WW2 Lithuania was an independent country. Then the Soviet Union forcibly annexed Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Before the USSR collapsed Lithuania declared it was and always had been an independent sovereign state and demanded the end of the illegal Soviet Occupation. With the collapse of the USSR and it's formal dissolution by Boris Yeltsin the Russian President, the former Soviet military was more or less peacefully expelled. Non Lithuanian people who had been posted or moved to Lithuania between 1945 and 1990 were asked to take up Lithuanian citizenship, declare which of the parts of the defunct USSR they were citizens or leave. But they were often quite slow in doing so. Possibly as a result of hard line Russian nationalist who encouraged them to believe that Russia would soon invade and take control of Lithuanian again. Many opted to take Russian or some other citizenship and foreign resident status. If born here they could have dual citizenship. Also it is quite possible to live normally in Lithuania while only speaking Russian since it is a commonly spoken language among non-Russian former Soviet Citizens. Then there is the deluded group of Soviet Citizens with their technically still valid Soviet paper ID's and papers. Who deny the authority of the courts, police and government. Claiming that the USSR is still in existence legally. That Boris Yeltsin had no authority to dissolve the USSR. They claim to believe that a new USSR government can and will be resurrected and take back power from all the treasonous rebels now in control of all the fragments of the USSR. I once heard one being arrested say " you are not police, you are costume wearing treasonous rebels and I am being kidnapped ". Sound familiar?

Having the Public Defenders sit through the entire case, even though they are ignored, prevents the Defendants from appealing their case due to lack of legal representation.

What was accomplished by this hearing? Nothing. 2 steps back.

I think the judge is stuck between a rock & a SovCitiot with the public defenders. She needs to protect the SovCitiots’ interests but she knows that they will keep harping on about them not representing them, so appointing them as standby counsel is the next best thing. It’s the same reason that the cops spend so much time debating them before they smash their windows.

Standby counsel is a well known concept in criminal law. It's normal to do that if you're going to rep yourself as a pro se lay person. It's a way to protect the record while letting the defendant exercise his rights.
