I’m glad I bought a 2022 TE250i instead of the WR250f which I was actually leaning towards but due to availability issues I ended up with the Husqvarna. After riding a 2003 525 EXC for almost 20 years I wasn’t too sure about going back to a 2 stroke but my new bike is absolute magic for a 65 year old veteran rider like me. It is fast, plush, has crazy good brakes and clutch, EFI with incredible range and no pre-mix to mess with, runs cool compared to my EXC and the list goes on and on. The WR250f looks very cool and I would have bought one if available but I found a place that was blowing out last years TE250i’s at a price comparable to the Yamaha so I pulled the trigger. Your video has confirmed my decision and I very much appreciate your insights and thoughtful comments. Greetings from Washington state USA.

Hello from BC Canada, just north of you! I myself just bought a 2022 TE250i. I'm watching these videos for the fun of it, as my last bike was a 2009 YZ250, but I'm quite happy with my choice, the Husqvarna wasn't cheap but ever first ride of the season running with the boys, it didn't tire me out at all! Pretty fantastic machine, i just wish there wasn't so much white on it!

You described the CRF450RL perfectly. Everything from the twitchy throttle to the need of a heavier flywheel. These are the exact areas us noobish riders are addressing to tame the bike. You could literally do the same video and only change the bike and it would make total sense. Yet after all this I still 100% love this bike and it's totally worth dialing it in the way you want it without giving up the Japanese reliability that sold the bike to you in the first place. I imagine people who pull the trigger on the WR250F will feel the same way. Thanks Ash.

You showed exactly what I experienced with my 2017 WRF250: a motocross bike with lights. As I'm an average enduro rider, this bike was a pity for me. I sold it to a young fast rider who is so happy with. I'm now enjoying a KTM500EXCF that makes me a faster rider.

@@georgihitrov the WRF range has allways be the race range at Yamaha. The racing performance was increased with the reverse engine ( inlet in front, exhaust at rear), I don't remember which year but before 2016 for sure. WRR is the trail range which replaced the TTR range.

Hi. I'm very new to dirt bikes. I just bought a 2005 wr250f. I rode it through some nasty trails. And I like it a lot. How are you more comfortable on a 500? Wouldn't it be heavier and more powerful. Like more of a handful on trails?
@gillesgenete9598
@gillesgenete9598 Жыл бұрын
@@danieldigiuseppe7912 my KTM500EXCF is 10kg lighter than my former WRF250. Of course more power, 55hp instead of 35, true that 250 power is enough for any trail. The point is on a trail you ride the 500 at lower revs than a 250, thanks to more torque. That means less noise, easier riding, less gear change, and about the same gas consomption. Makes me more confident about reliability over long rides. On YT you may see guys having ridden their 500 over more than 100.000km fully loaded.

I agree , I have the same bike and it’s extremely hard to ride in slow technical type riding but does love the faster paced stuff , it’s a race bike and I wish it was a little more mellow like the older ones and with a little lower seat height .
@jvogler_art4708
@jvogler_art4708 2 жыл бұрын
I'm taller so i like the high seat height. I like that it comes out of the box very aggressive and i'm gonna wanna revalve the bike for my weight anyway. So really the only thing i'd have to do extra is a new flywheel. As someone torn between a 250 and a 450.. This did make the 250 more appealing to me. But i think the low end torque of the 450 is also very, very appealing. But it has a lot of top end i don't need and 20 something extra pounds of weight. I wish they made a 300 4 stroke for the perfect middle ground. But i agree, this bike kinda does come off like a watered down YZ250FX. I'm a diehard Honda and Yamaha fan, so buying a bike from one of those brands over something like KTM is a no brainer. The price point and available parts is just way better to me. I love the Japanese reliability, and i grew up riding hondas and yamahas so i'm loyal to those brands. It's a shame Honda discontinued it's XR line because i think if they really put effort into an XR400r in 2022 it would be an amazing machine and a good competitor to these WR's. The CRF 250F just seems so lackluster, I wanna see honda make an enduro/trail bike with a solid suspension setup like yamaha. i think the CRF250F is the kind of mellow bike people want though. Low seat too!

Yamaha WR250F has it's issues. I've built four WR250F's so far to my liking (-07, -17, -21 and currently -22). From the latest builds I've posted some videos to my channel. Also tried to explain why certain changes has been done. Don't get me wrong, WR250F is a damn good bike. But like all bikes, it also needs to be built to suite your weight, riding style etc. etc.

Sold my WR250f (admittedly a 2006) and bought a Husky FE350 and so far couldnt be happier. The WR is a fantastic bike, I honestly mean that 100%, but the stalling on steep rocky hills caught me out a couple times and watched friends sail past whilst i was struggling. Hard to have nice things to say about the WR at the top of the hill when you get there last. Everything else i really liked about it, and it actually has snappier bottom end than the efi husky, but give it a wrist load and the husky is in another tier. Can see why nobody rides WRs for enduro anymore. Its pumpkins and huskies with the odd red or blue 450 in the mix. Great vid mate!

Interesting to see your experience on this bike. I have a WR250R and it’s so comfy and relaxed. Almost too plush. You jump it, and immediately bottom the suspension. It tractors along well but also struggles in hard enduro type situations. I had a YZ250 and it was painful to ride slow. And a bit of a handful in hard enduro stuff. I now have a YZ250X with a Apex head and Lectron carb. Absolutely night and day. Suspension is plush and comfy but you could still jump it as long as you don’t expect super cross level of performance. It tractors along effortlessly. It can be ridden more relaxed. It can be pushed hard. It excels in hard enduro terrain. It’s just so playful and fun and pulls like a damn freight train when you’ve got the open space for it. I’ve ridden a 450FX and there’s no way I could ride hard enduro on it. But I would thing a WR250FX is a solid performer?

I bought a WR250R before I knew there was a distinction between the R and F. Having raced motocross, I bought the WR from all the reviews that it likes to rev high like a 2-stroke. At first I hated the R because it was nothing like the F. Thought of buying F suspension and sub frame to reduce weight until I softened the suspension. Former owner had it hard as a rock. Went on a severely rocky trail system and took a long time to trust the stock tires. End result, once I learned the stock tires could be trusted I was railing the trails like a pro. Love the bike now and to my wildest surprise I love the stock tires. Never thought I would ever say that. Fuel injection is what really makes this bike. Chugs through anything without stalling. Say that about my former DRZ400S.

It's interesting....I've got a 17 250FX. Bought a used programmer and tweeked tuning a bit,now it's just about the perfect bike for literally anything from moto(I'm no pro) to extreme singletrack.(Rocky mountains of Canada has nasty,flowy and everything in between) Besides protection they only thing not stock is an inch lower seat. Suspension is good enough with clicker adjustments for everything...and quite frankly the best suspension I've had on an off roader. I rarely ever stall the bike. Bike revs to the moon and ive never thought I didn't have enough power. I honestly can't find much bad to say about the 250FX (tho I hear the newest edition is a bit different). I got it for dirt cheap pre covid....and currently don't think there's another bike I'd want.....especially with the price of bikes nowadays.

Thanks for giving a balanced review. These bikes are great for going fast, but work poorly for hard technical riding. As a long time Yamaha fan I just can’t understand why they have refused to develop suitable hard enduro models. Their best effort, the YZ 250X, is a mild update of a 20 year old design, but lacks a 6th gear, electric start, or adequate electrical power for lights. E start saves the technical rider tons of energy in the tough sections, and likewise makes turning off the motor a non issue when riding with friends. Yamaha was known for innovation. What happened?

I have and had race bikes, but my trail bike is now a '21 Kayo K6 250 EFI and it was $5k new. Those and the WR are the only 250f enduro platforms out there with a 6 speed, lights, efi, and softer suspension. Im glad I bought it, bike is fun and plush on the trails.

The yz250fx is a trail bike because it is both Yzf and Wr mashed into one and the Wr is a full on enduro bike
@222wheelsdown
@222wheelsdown 2 жыл бұрын
so many things wrong with this. the yz250fx is a GNCC bike (not EPA regulated, unlike the WR series). The yz250fx is also not a “mash” of the yzf and wr. It is 90% identical to the yzf except has a kickstand, larger gas tank, o ring chain, etc. the WR series are the trail bikes, the FX series are essentially motocross bikes made for closed course racing, and the yzf are obviously the purpose built mx bikes.

I just got one and have to say I couldn't have put it better myself. Messing around with the mapping and suspension helps a lot, but it's still not a 300 2 stroke, which I feel I should have gotten. I just have more trust in Honda and Yamaha than the (Indian/Chinese) European brand.

I own one of these. I think you're about right. I had the suspension revalved, and it's still a little stiff for the gnarly terrain I like, but it's okay. I wrote a KTM 300 XCW for 7 and 1/2 years before I bought this bike, and this is a better bike, But the transition is beating the shit out of me

Tried adjusting the mapping to help with the jerky throttle ( more fuel and less ignition down low) ? My -20 isn’t jerky at all, I bought it used so i dont know how it was acting when brand new. And the suspension has been revalved and feels great so far, gonna test some more rocky harder enduro trails soon. but a -22 i testrode stalled 20times in 10 minutes for me. 😬 is the -22 engine very differently built from the -20 model?

I hate my son’s and wish I never bought it. It’s absolutely terrible when compared to my 300tpi on our rocky, tight single track here in East Tennessee for all those reasons you mentioned . It’s for sale now and if someone buys it there’ll be another 300 xc-w in the garage. If not, I’m having the suspense revalved/resprung and a rekluse clutch installed. My God what a great review. Just subscribed.

Great summary. I'd love to return to the WR's of old where I started. Riding the latest yammy against a 2011 CRF250X last week it was clear to me the honda was more comfortable, versatile, useable etc. I don't think they can do much about the snatchyness with the FI, you either have the power or you don't, lag was a built in feature of the carb. They've moved the power up the rev range a bit (like the KTM's) which makes it a little less snatchy down low versus the 2018 FX etc...but you sacrifice low end power as a result. As for the rigidity... you just can't fix that, you have to wait for the factory to address it. Softer springs is a start. If billy bolt runs .43 on his forks, god knows why yamaha went from .42 on the old gen to .46 ? on the new one. It just amplifies the frame issues.

You are riding to low in the compression cuz of your weight. Wind the compression 3 clicks from full soft, and wind the rebound 3 clicks from full hard to hold u up in the soft part of the compression. Still feels firm but great for slow enduro riding.
