What a great way to deal with all of those soap scraps and old soaps--and a super opportunity to use those lovely-but-delicate fragrances! Brilliant! Thank you for sharing what you learned and for linking to Kenny's video, too!

Why thank you Keeley darling for the sweet shout out! I'm so happy you found my method useful and yours turned out so lovely! I have learned from you about adding the essential oils that tend to take off. I'm definitely going to give it a go. I'm also happy you got your channel sorted out. That is oh so tiring, lol! Your rebatch turned out great. I did one from a winter soap in blues that lost it's scent. When it was all said and done it reminded me of my grandma's old linoleum kitchen floor, I hated it! I keep it outdoors by my outdoor tub to wash up with after gardening. LOL

Thank you for watching ❤ depending on how old the soap is, will depend on how much liquid you need to add. If it's only a couple of days, you won't need much. Just with older soap you need more liquid but still achievable.

Love it.....I’ve had my old crockpot waiting to rebatch my old end pieces and scraps for ages..after seeing how well this worked I’m going to start going. Through and colour matching those old soaps and get busy..... I also have about 20 bars of activated charcoal soap that no matter what I did they would not stay black.. I would steam them, wash them, trimmed a few mm off each surface and still they would severely ash again over a week or so! ( they almost looked mouldy ! ) I PH tested them and they seemed ok but they still looked so ugly yet I used a bar in my kitchen for after chopping onions etc and it was great...Maybe I missed an ingredient ? but they are unseeable so I have nothing to lose..fingers 🤞

I rebatched 2 lots of soaps this way, using a batch of soap I made that smelled wonderful but was really ugly lol, another that looked fine but the fragrance was a non event and I also added quite a few soaps that were getting too old and ended up with 2 large batches of soaps, using different dyes and fragrances and not only do I prefer to use them over cp soap but they were a huge hit with friends and family and unfortunately I'm down to the last bar now. I did load up the moulds as carefully as I could and had hardly any air bubbles, so they looked pretty good. I'm going to make another batch today and selfishly I think I'll be keeping this batch for my family and ME.

I found Kenny on Royal Apple Berry (giggles) over a year ago after I made a batch of soap and forgot to add the fragrance 😕 I tried her way of rebatching and it turned out beautifully!! 😁 I just added a lot of cream and whipped the tar out of it and have to say, it came out a winner 🏆. I hadn't realized you needed to rebatch or would have saved you the trouble of searching. Hers is the best method by far! My grandson was the happy recipient of the "soap that floats", and is always asking for more. I even use this rebatched type of soap to make my felted floating soap. So very happy you found Kennys site and it worked out wonderfully for you too. Fragrance sounds great and love the sample idea. Thanks so very much for sharing 😊

You could print out your logo all over a backing sheet like a paper table cloth style and maybe using a stamper or stickers. Let it cover the whole screen when you do a view of the process and that way no one can take your work and claim it as your own. Ty this was very helpful I’ve been sitting here trying to decide what to do with all of my shredding‘s. I’m not one to make too many confetti soaps, however I’ve made them in the past only two in three years LOL. So I was literally sitting here thinking today wow I haven’t tried to do another re-batch in about a year because normally I just give old soap away at events or as free gifts such as yourself. I’m going to give this ago the last time I whipped it I whipped it so much it was almost like a butter and that could be used in a tub or a jar and when I sliced it it felt like mushy though I can’t quite explain the texture I really hope this time I get it right because I do wind up with a lot of little pieces that I could wind up making some decent re-batches with for even my own family instead of always using my good stuff in the house LOL thanks again yours truly Loren Dovico @DC Bubbles

If you add extra oil, you'll be increasing the super fat, and this may lead to rancidity. In this example of rebatching, I'd stick to liquids like water or milk.

I really like the way you did your re-batch. And I'm glad your essential oils held up. I was wondering since you put them in when the soap was hot. You know, flashpoints and all that. Yes, Kenny is fun to watch! :-)
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 5 жыл бұрын
I love watching Kenny - always a good laugh. The EOs have held so well. I've had a nasty experience with flash points and from what I experienced, it's the temperature they will catch on fire when exposed to a naked flame - it's why I only recommend unscented tealight for oil burners. Because there is no ignition source, there is no risk adding to the soap. The only issue is with evaporation. As our air is so cool, the temperature of my soap was actually quite cool and also cooled very quickly so the fragrance hasn't been lost 😊 I probably wouldn't do this in summer.

I would recommend getting an old “Salad Master”. I have an original one from the 60’s...no electricity, no batteries and they come with different blades so you can finely grate Parmesan Cheese, cabbage for Cole Slaw, and potatoes for hash browns or slices for Au Gratin. It’ll last a lot longer than a plastic Salad Shooter and could be used for other things.

Awesome soap. I have heard, and recently tried adding kaolin clay to better hold citrusy scents. However, it was also into a rebatch, but it worked! I will try kaolin with citrus in fresh cold process next. You mix the scent to the kaolin and then to the lightly traced soap

Wonderful video. I have a loaf that lost scent and discolored a lot. Could I add more color/mica during the process to cover up the discoloration?
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea Жыл бұрын
Yes you definitely can add more colour to the soap while rebatching. Just keep in mind any existing colour will affect it. For example if your batch is yellow and you add blue, it may go green.

I've never done a rebatch soap before but I'm wondering if the goat's milk would go bad or sour quickly because it hasn't gone through any kind of saponification process?? Looks nice though.

That's very interesting. I did see Soap Queen suggested Goats Milk for their rebatch soap. I will be drying them for another 2weeks so I can monitor thenm and will put a use buy date too.

You may be able to put rebatch in the bottom of the mould and then pour new CP soap on top. It's not something I have done though

Hello, I realise this is an older video of yours hope it's still OK to ask questions. With the added goats milk, since there is no saponification going on, can this go off or go rancid?
@SoyandShea

Thank you for watching. I didn't find this to be an issue. I have kept one of the bars for myself to keep an eye on it and to date it is still fine. The PH level of soap would stop most bacteria that create these issues.

You can however you need to be careful not to overheat. There is less chance of burning the soap this way.

That soap turned out gorgeous., I like the smaller bars of soap they are easier to handle these bars are perfect. I just had a thought about people using your videos, why not put your logo all over your work surface. That way no matter what sort of video your taping we will always see your logo, it’s dainty so it wouldn’t be overpowering.👏👏👍

As the soap is saponified, yes you can but like fresh soap, it is best to let it cure and dry out. This will depend on how much liquid you add

Fantastic! Rebatching is such a useful skill and I appreciate you sharing your latest batch with us, its beautiful and a wonderful idea. Don’t be surprised if it gets requested after all your samples are in circulation. 😁. FYI , I find Yogurt works great to loosen the mix before molding and I find it doesn’t seem to need as long of a cure/ dehydration time. I appreciate you mentioning the EO potency, its a great point. I love Blood Orange EO but it is so delicate. I need to use it in my next rebatch!

do you think you could have also used a hand mixer..like a bamix? or are the beaters you used specially important?
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea Жыл бұрын
An emersion blender or bamix will only emulsify the ingredients together. The beater incorporates air into the soap. If you want the soap to float, it needs the hand beater. If you don't want it to float, you could use the bamix

Nice video. Very educative. Can I rebatch a soap that has not completed the 4-6 week curing period? will it be safe to use in 2-3 days?
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can rebatch soap that was made only the day before if needed. The fresher the soap, the less additional liquid you need. It's a great way of adding missing oils, lye etc. Full saponification takes about 48-72 hours so any soap that is older than that is safe to use straight away but a cure time is always best to make the bar longer lasting and milder

When you rebatch cold press bathing Soap can you use it immediately or you have to wait for some days
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 5 ай бұрын
You can use any soap as soon as it has finished saponifying but curing is recommended to make a milder soap and longer lasting as the excess water evaporates. If you are rebatching freshly made soap that hasn't yet been cured, I recommend giving it a full cure to evaporate the water. If you are rebatching cured soap, it will still benefit from a cure which would be dependent on how much extra liquid you add to the soap. The more you add, the longer it will need to cure. I generally cure my rebatched soap for 2-4 weeks depending on liquid added.

Hello. I am newbie in the soap making. I have a batch which turn out not so nice. It was drying my skin. Your rebatched soap isn't look so rustic, it looks smooth inside, only rustic on top. But so nice soap I don't have crock pot, so could I use double boiler, and would it make some difference in result or time?
@SoyandShea

Yes you can use a double boiler but you need to watch it to make sure it doesn't get too hot. It may take a little longer too

The main soap was my standard recipe which I include in the description of my videos. As for the other quantities, this was filmed quite some time ago and really can't recall the amounts. I believe most of the information is in the video.

I would like to ask, when re- batching natural soaps doesn't, the essential ingredients like essential oils, vitamin E loses their potency?
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 9 ай бұрын
Often, we're rebatching soaps because the fragrance or essential oil has faded so this isn't a concern. Any new oils, aren't generally affected unless you've overheated the soap. With regards to vitamin e, it needs to be exposed to high heat for a very long time to be affected
