@@ajx4638 The C5s weren't bad, but I wouldn't say it carried enough support personally. It was just a bit thin and ungrounded up there, thus some of the slight flat moments as well. Overall technique? I remember thinking a bit too optimistically of her when they first debuted. Her approach is clean, meaning she doesn't have any obvious issues with nasality or tongue tension etc, so I guess that's her main strength. But she just isn't that full in tone or strong in support. I do think Winter has the potential to pull off some open A4/Bb4 maybe, but for the most part, she can sound very bright and thin. I know she always goes for the edgy YYJ sound, I've heard some unimpressive moments Bb4/B4 in the Yepp Yeppi performances. It can be quite thin and scratchy in a way. She needs to go fuller and bolder in her mixed without being very 'piercing' in tone. I think Winter has certain moments where she shows that but only at the end of phrases or rare moments that I've never heard live.

I think she's mentioned in a few interviews during the breaks that she wanna focus on singing and sing better while dancing.(I can't remember the name of the interview it's been a while) Also she's the only one who was releasing covers so it seems like she's often singing and making sure she's not in regression. I hope she'll pull Minzy one day.

Yeah NN can very much strenghthen and further develop her mix even if she has a lighter coordination. I don't necessarily think a singer with a light approach trying to sound bolder would 'damage' their voice per se, maybe that article you read was just saying that they might be prone to straining or developing bad habits within their mix as theyre inexperienced with that type of approach?

I think it's a bit of a simplification of things 😅. Basically, Ningning sings 'light' as opposed to engaging with more solid 'chest' muscles like Jungwoo is for example. That's why you can hear that NN's tone is a bit lighter and girlier whereas Jungwoo has a bit of 'depth' to it, tone wise. And added to her being 'light', NN also is very bright with her placement. Without sufficient cord strength, that combination will make her sound less full and more 'floaty' in quality. Even if NN tries a bit harder to sound full, it can still be a bit lacking and shaky since her cords muscles aren't used to it (like most of the Black Mamba notes, aside from the dancing). Adding more chest isn't harmful to her. Vocal cords are more resilient than people give them credit for. Only years and years of improper or overuse would lead to a significant vocal damage. But adding more 'chest' isn't a straightforward process that can be fixed in a day, she'd have to train her cords to coordinate well for that approach. There's some specific field-based verbs that I'm using since I can't think of something simpler to convey but I hope it's understandable.

It can damage if u are not flexible or used to all three types of mix. Someone who sings only with chesty mix can have a hard time lightening their mix and become airy and even squeezing their larynx in order to lighten the mix. Vice versa, someone who sings with a lighter approach may have a hard time when trying to sound more powerful. I have a mezzo-soprano friend who can support A4 with heady mix, but she got tension when using more chest coordination. I think it's cuz she is a usual heady mixer. What i wanna say is if any vocalist train all kinds of mix and become versatile then, they will pretty much not have a problem.

As I said, I only started to dive into the whole theory stuff a few months ago, so I'm not that familiar with the terminology yet. Anyways, it's good to know that she wouldn't damage her voice and personally, I really hope she is gonna work on that. it’s alright, it’s not rude at all :) i don’t hear any considerable constriction compared to others A-AA, hers C5s are fine. there’s constriction through and through, it doesn’t make sense it’s only or more present lower in her range, at least not to a notable extent. maybe you just like the higher attempts better personally, it happens, and it’s fine.

The constricted sound comes from her projecting into her nose and being a bit less open with her vowels. Yeah, I do hear it too. But along with the slight constriction, there's also a stronger foundation than the other two imo. The other two are brighter in placement and relatively 'freer' sound wise, but that in itself might not be the most developed sound there. NN and Swan both have some tension from C5, it's just expressed in different forms that's not as obvious as Jungwoo's (it's masked by their brightness).

i particularly like it better than any of their releases after 4xddu lol not impressed by rosé though, she always manage a nice sound in studio. i’d rather wait for a live (or encore at least) before assuming things, but i wouldn’t expect a huge change. i would agree that the stylistic choices are less of a hinderance in a overview, but that’s only half of her issues, the rest are with being a tad shallow and not properly developed yet.

Extent? Depends on what that means. If you mean in range, then sure. They have the ability for it but not by the usual cases, tenors supporting head voice is rarer than sopranos doing so imo. But even in K-pop, there's a few tenors who can carry support C5 - G5 just fine. Thing is, even the developed head voices (that carries depth and not just brightness) from tenors is way less loud than Sopranos with good head voice. So yes in range, but no in terms of volume and fullness. A tenor's 'resonance' in head voice isn't the same as a soprano's.

@Loona the world Just cause she supports higher doesnt mean she has a better mix. Its quality, not quantity. Solar consistently resonates up to C#5 and has good breath support until Eb5/E5, her issue is that she pushes way too much and her mix is not balanced, its overly chesty, but those issues are pretty familiar to Lily as well so like? Lily is thinner and more inconsistent than Solar, she often gets a little too pushy and shouty above C5, does that mean she doesnt carry support? Ofc not, it just means that even tho she is pretty consistent with C#5/D5 she still has remarkable issues and bad habits she should fix, her cover of Roar was indeed kinda messy above C5, her mix is also not rlly balanced on the 5th octave, its on the headier side. She did not achive enough freedom and openess to produce the same amount of resonance as Solar, who again, is also pushy but is also more grounded, open and consistent. I dont think the gap is HUGE, but its still pretty evident, its like comparing Mariah Carey's mix to Aretha Franklin one, both great, but def not on the same level yet. Personally id say Solar is high AA nd Lily mid AA, if u want to be generous u could also say Solar is in AA to P nd Lily in High AA

She still doesn't have a clean enough grasp above B4. Most of the notes C5 - Eb5 have tension and some bright pushing to them that's a bit too uncontrolled for me. It's somewhat similar to Seunghee and Hwasa's (in a cleaner manner) development level rather than Sejeong for example. One of those B4s are also projected into the nose, she seems to have some issues with that as well.

@@imanzufar Yuju still has a pretty good upper register (It's improved, I believe) and the lows (for example, her support of them seems wider than Solar's support, who's in High AA; I'm not sure whether Yuju's quality of support is better or not there)

@@imanzufar Yeah, Yuju probably has the least impressive mixed in AA for now. But her saving grace is that she still retained enough development B4-C#5 so that although it can be constricted, it's not really for lack of cord strength (well, she doesnt have those good either tbh but just comparatively speaking), but rather her diction and enunciation habits make it way more tight than it needs to be. If Yuju actually tries to put in the effort, she can probably still deliver clean, open B4s and I'm estimating probably C5s wouldn't be a stretch. She regressed but it's made worse by her style and effort (lack thereof). Aside from that she's one of the only AA who has some decent development in all the registers.
