0.3.35 just dropped, some changes to the controls: * setting burn is now R (formerly E) * E is now like Q but on the XZ plane * default LMB, Q, and E are now on based on the universal coordinates rather than relative to the current waypoint (makes them harder to use IMO until you get high speed & delta-v ships) * zoom in/out are now T and B in the default keybindings Also, grid and height indicator lines are now dashes. There also seems to be a bug where the game moves your later waypoints even if the ship isn't colliding and it doesn't have padlock enabled. So always do a quick check of your waypoints every few minutes. EDIT 2: 0.3.49 now on Steam, the waypoint bug seems to have been fixed. Patch notes also say group selection movement controls will be added in a later patch.

Thumbs up. Great overview of a complex system. TI has a lot of complexity and still in early access, so I hope the dev team are working on making the UI and meaningful info accessible to players. Till then I'm thankful for people like you creating tutorials that explain how the game actually works.

I've added it as a guide on Steam right after I uploaded this video. As for Reddit, I've quit the site but based on the video analytics, some redditors are already linking to this video. Not a lot so I'm guessing it may be from Q&A threads.

[0.3.29] the Z and X zoom in/out are in my game replaced by T and B (but I had to reset controls to defaults, as they were R and V, conflicting with other controls again - I didn't do any manual adjustments myself in the past). And Boost/Thrust/Burn adjust is now R, replacing E. Now, Q and E are said in control settings to be adjusting waypoint Height and Laterally - to be more precise, what they actually do is this: Hold Q to drag waypoint on xz-plane, and hold E to drag waypoint on yz-plane. (Similar to not holding any key when you move waypoint on xy-plane - all via dragging the waypoint via holding LMB and moving your mouse). So there have been probably some changes.

This needs an Auto Resolve feature....too complex for my feeble mind. I was good in XCOM, I was good in Homeworld...I think I'm going to suck in Terra Invicta space combat.

There is an autoresolve button. See the linked video at the end - the option to autoresolve shows up before the battle. Enabling AI during battle is another option.

Thank you very much for this tutorial, I was really confused how I could break out of the damn XY plane in my 3D space battle! :D I am curious, have you experimented a bit with AI controlled battles? And if yes, from your experience does it hold up quite well compared to manual battles (or even better due to all the little micro managing maneuvers that would take a player an hour to do)? I'm in my first playthrough and didn't have huge space battles yet but sometimes I felt like the AI control helped me whereas sometimes it also just completely wrecked me so I had to restart the battle. :D

Unfortunately, the AI kinda sucks mainly because its fancy movements tend to turn your ships sides towards the enemy, and the current build discourages you from heavily investing in side armor because of the mass cost. That's why in the two videos I posted, I try not to move my ships too much and its worked well for me so far (ie. the battle is all about the combination of weapons you bring into the fight rather than maneuvering your ships). I even had a 15K vs 25K fight (which I didn't record) where, even though I was swarmed by enemy ships, my movement was 90% "turn toward the enemy" and the other 10% was controlling the ships the game decided to trail behind the formation.

damn it hard. But testing my ships in skrimish checked that it is impossible to win for me :D :D Nebulus fleet command is easier!

...Okay, so when I try to select a movement waypoint with my mouse... all it does is cause the arrow to turn in that direction. The waypoint guide lines do not move whatsoever (there's no curving of the waypoint lines to indicate movement). And these are ships with plenty of delta-V and maneuverability.

Are the lines turning red indicating thrust/burn? If they are, your ships don't have that much thrust and will require multiple waypoints to move to a direction. However, if the lines are still mostly green (with a bit of yellow indicating RCS rotation) it may either be a problem with your control settings (try resetting controls to default) or may be an actual bug.
