Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the nineteenth episode of this semi-hardcore survival series, in this episode I make a start on the base and complete the preliminary design for the hanger and control center, then I build two new ships to help me construct the Base!.

Damm, I don't know how you keep up with the design, making it look decent and hand weld all that, I start doing it, 2 minute later I have my brick flying, attaching to some other random brick as a base hhahaha

Not gonna lie, sometimes it is hard to come up with a design that looks good, in my eyes at least, but I literally just try a whole bunch of different blocks until I get a shape I'm kinda happy with. But after years of experience in this game I do have some go to design philosophy that makes most thing look quite good 😎✌️

Instead of manually welding blocks that were missed, just fly the ship past some active welders. So long as you're in the cockpit, I don't think they can damage you. It's a lot easier than trying to figure out which ones are missing. You just have to make sure there's a projector on the ship with the correct blueprint locked in place.

Also could have extended the welders out changed the orientation so it printed sideways & possibly top to bottom. Less movement range needed for the welders and less chance to miss blocks welding up due to bigger blocks needing to be welder and pushing those smaller blocks out of welder range.

I find with piston welder setups like that, setting an on off switch for the piston is handy. The second you see sparks welding, just hit the off button and wait for them to stop. Then switch it on until the next sparks, rinse, repeat. It obviously takes longer than just running the piston straight through, but you miss fewer blocks. All caught up with the series now. Subbed up, and excited for the next installment! You're a great builder, and a bit of a perfectionist. That's not a bad thing though. I'm learning a lot by just watching all the intricate armor work on your ships, and your concepts for the architecture. Great content my friend!

You know it's funny I never even thought about that LOL, usually I just set the speed reeeeeaaaalllly low and it's alright 😅. I think some of these blocks that were missed were attached a few blocks towards the front and by the time those were welded up the welders were out of range. Thanks for the suggestion though mate I will use this in the future! 😎✌️

With build menu you can actually type a number in by pressing enter so I normally set mine to 0.01. Seems to work 95% of the time. But also depends on the blueprint cause some design aren't too printer friendly based one what blocks are attached to what

I get what you're trying to do with the structures you're trying to make it look like it's been built into the asteroid on the outside so you've carved the inside out and built your base so the outside of the asteroid looks like part of the base and if you Can color the base that you're building to match the asteroid itself that would be even cooler maybe with a black trim job but that's my opinion and you are the Maker, by the way I love your mods that I've seen for this game

There is a mod for "Survival Mirror" build (it can be a bit glitchy at times) I am pasting the workshop link in a reply to this but KZfaq may clear it.

Greetings small drills drill a 5x5 hole meaning you can have up to a 2 block gap to left and right and a 3 block gap up and down for each drill

i'm jealous, recently started playing space engineers and i'm proud of myself for making a large ship and a base on an asteroid, but you have all this stuff that i have no idea how to replicate. my next project is a space station situated a little further from the planet but the resources it requires are staggering. are automatic miners something i need or can i do without?

Hehehe, thanks mate 😎👌. I mean for me I usually just use a little mining ship like the one in this episode and then couple it with my Atlas transport ship and fly to an asteroid. Then i just make like 10 mining trips to the asteroid for something like Iron and get like 1 million units loaded into the Atlas and head back to base. It only really takes about half an hour. Still waiting on an astroid ship 🤣 haven't tried it yet but I could imagine that would be really sweet! Especially if there was a way to put ships into orbit 🤣

Don't think that's possible because the games code reads anything on an asteroid or planet as a "base" and then any grid that's not attached to either an asteroid or planet as a separate grid (vehicle)

@@sgtjohnson49 That's fair, I just didn't know if it would be possible to convert an astroid from a station or something like that. There's probably a mod but I just haven't looked into it, about to start my first playthrough in like 3-4 years

Yeah all voxels in the game are static I'm afraid 😔. Would be cool to slap some thrusters on an asteroid and use them as kinetic weapons like they did in the Expanse 😎👌

can you build a cargo drone that when at main base follows you around with resources to upgrade main saving you from going back and forwards just to get coms? sorry im learning before i actually play lol

What made you choose to use an asteroid base rather than a space station? Is it just aesthetics, or is it a meaningful difference in-game?

More protection from enemies, and I was inspired by one of the episodes from Enterprise, the Star Trek series where the Tholians have the ship they found from the future in there, I can't remember what the ship was called though 🤔

Should look into build and repair or star trekk mod back got some good npc and weps makes game play hard I did KZfaq on the server and made some videos on it its crazy hard

"I know it's not practical, I know I spend a lot of time on making things look good." If you're going to be living somewhere you want it to look decent. If anyone says that you're wrong for making a base look nice in this game then what's the point in playing past the point of not risking dying every few seconds?
