I like the larger minis. Space marines are supposed to be giant, even out of their armor. However they are the size of guardsmen. The new death watch and space marine hero marines are slightly bigger and work well. Primaris look great but lack the diversity of all prior marine kits (mixing/matching tersos, legs, etc). I think GW should put out a set of single pose marines that are in between the old/shorter type & the primaris/newer so armies can have a good mixture & the lore of SMs being different heights ( I remember a story where a SM captain thinks to himself that the SM he is looking @ is the tallest SM hes seen ) can be reflected. As it is players who have been around a while ( like myself ) wont have the smallest figures if we arent able to go out & buy multiple boxes of primaris marines ( though this is exactly what GW wants us to do ) . It is bad enough that GW is constantly putting out new rules average every 4 yrs which also means new codexs ( so every 4 yrs we all have to shell out approximately 75$ ). Personaly I think the 3rd ed rulebook had the right idea of including a mini codex for all the armies ( w/a couple of excetions ) & rules shouldnt be changed unless there is a major problem w/them as a few mo.ago I got the Dark Venngeance box set only to realize that the rules were no longer being used ( this is a prob especially when about 10yrs ago I had an employee @ a GW store pushing me to buy a codex when I bought a small starter force or chaos SMs only 2 have a new codex come out 2wks later, which he DID know was comming out). GW has ceased to be a Co. that was "Run By Gamers FOR Gamers" & turned into the worst type of money grubbing corporate assholes & its getting harder & harder to enjoy the game I got into in the late 80's. It's no wonder I scratch build all my vehicles & cast my own minis but thats out of neccessity, but finding out the new rules allow IG to fire lasguns @ a Leman Russ & actually damage it ( as they got rid of armor values ) just makes the game completley unrealistic. Anyone interested in working with me on creating a parody ruleset ( remember parody is LEGALY PROTECTED ) called HammerJammer 39,876 AD comment below. TY all for taking the time to read my little rant.

So to those who have these sets, don't dump them, try to convert them into some cool minis.

I'm pretty sure that Marines were meant to be 6 ft 6 to 8 foot tall with about another 6" for armour and Primarchs around 10ft tall. so at 5mm to the foot that gives 32.5 - 42.5 for an armoured Marine.

I think that when used in game , size isn't that important. The figurines are like chess pieces , it's what they represent that counts. Outside of the game, when simply used as figurines and nothing else, size matters. IMO the new Primaris are great looking models and the size makes for more detail and a more enjoyable painting experience. The resulting model is also more visually imposing , making for a more rewarding result.

The problem is that nobody ever settled on a scale. I used to figure at about 1/48 for Guardsmen. Honestly: The new Primaris marines ARE true scale, if they stop right now. Ofcourse, the size of the other armies need to stay as they where when I played (2003) for this to stay true. Honestly, I am thinking of returning to 40k painting only to create a army of only (modded) gravis armor space marines. That armor looks so cool... if you take away the unnecessary accessories (like the shoulderpads).
@Sup3rSaiy3n6 жыл бұрын
To ignore the lore is to ignore the complete universe these miniatures are set in. I have read the Primaris novels and how they are being integrated into current chapters. To replace the current range would need a drastic progression of the 40K universe. They are only 100 years into having Primaris in the lore so there aren't many around and they are not as battle-forged as the rest of the Space Marines. Space Marines are the size they are because GW & FW choose them to be. Both continue to make miniatures for the two types. Where we go from here though is anyone's guess. They sold space marines (40K), then older space marines (HH) and now Primaris (40K+). Space Marines are their most popular money making army. They are not going to replace them overnight. Primaris are also expensive, we're almost taking FW prices now, which many hobbyists will not be able to afford. A lot of the models are funky looking too such as the Aggressors, Inceptors, the Repulsor and even the Astraeus. Although the Redemptor and Intercessors are cool. Model wise there are many more fantastic miniatures in the 'standard' space marine and Horus Heresy ranges. If GW got rid of their biggest product line people would be disenfranchised and alienated because their collections would be pushed out and they would be expected to replace them with the bigger (not necessarily better) models. Leaving only the new hobbyists and early adopters of Primaris which would be insufficient to support the new range.

Damn shame they went with the armour they did, I prefer the older models to the new primaris marines

So how did the new primaris space marines get upskilled and more experienced than the other space marines some of which have been in constant battle for centuries >

I know they can be tainted and bloated by chaos but ahriman is huge and makes even his iwn rubricae look tiny and is bigver than terminators yet is in power armour

Sup3er_sayian you are da best wish I could meet you in real life but I got a question can chaos space marines and normal space marines be on the same team?

dogeyboy 22 Thanks mate, that would be awesome. Unfortunately they are sworn enemies so can’t be on the same team or army.

Do you think they will only produce Space Marines in the new scale? ie eventually everything on shelves today will be replaced soon?
@MickyE1176 жыл бұрын
The issue with comparing anything from games workshop is that they use a sliding scale....so basically I doubt they even know the proper scale everything should be

The models are getting bigger, but cost goes up. You get less for more these days. We're now paying £100 for some models. That's £40 more than some AAA games, which are infinitely harder to make. The model's are getting bigger, but the games getting worse. Remember the times when you could purchase multiple pieces of war gear for your commander? Remember the time, when Terminators used to save on 2D6, and AP wasn't even a thing? Remember when a War Walker used to cost £12, instead of £22.50? Remember when the Psychic phase used to be interesting?

You don't even want to know the cost-per-unit for my Primaris-scale Grey Knight Paladin kit bashes.

With the price they're now charging I think it's right they're getting bigger

The watch master has straight legs and the primaris has bent legs. That's why he's taller
