James Jones is back on the channel and he's NOT playing Orks! Little known is that he is a huge fan of Space Wolves and he jumped on the chance to play the new beautifully painted Space Wolf combat patrol we just got! Nick, ever eager to play, takes control of the Tyranids to try and get revenge on James!
Note! Combat Patrol plays slightly different than regular full size 40k. Some of the data sheets and abilities have been adjusted to be more balanced for this smaller size of play.

I don’t think the effort needed to keep track of this is worth it. They already have to keep track of a bunch of stuff for the game itself, along with video-making. Out of curiosity, do people calculate how much points-wise is left on the table during their own games? Does knowing the number help more than just looking at the types of units left?

@@7Falcon8Wings7 Im a noob who watches their channel and hasn't played. So I don't really know the value of any one unit versus another and I can't pick out what units are what most the time.

@@7Falcon8Wings7 Yeah, editing exact numbers would be a nightmare definitely. In my own games I don't keep exact track but certainly rough estimates each round. (Eg, if I know a full unit of 10 models is worth 150 pts and its lost 4 models, I round to roughly half and say they are down 75 pts.) I find its a helpful marker on whether to be aggressive or defensive - if you are up on points, being aggressive can often close out the game.

Nick learning from his Leapers' mistakes with over-aggressive deployment and choosing to play it safe instead is such a hivemind adaptation learning moment. You never fool the synaptic nexus twice (or three times). He really is meant to play Tyranids.

How the hell do Space Wolves get a Tactical Suit in their combat patrol, but regular Space Marines do not have any vehicle/suit in theirs with only 12 models.

Love these "Shorter" form Battle Reports so I can watch it during lunch or on my commute. Thank you guys for making such great content. Nick does make the game so fun, and he has shown me I can have fun even if I loose and I really love that effect he brings.

combat patrol does play different from a full 2k match tho but know this if you play wiht friends you dont have to play with a 2k team you can play 1000v1000 of 1500v1500 its up to you in the end

I personally enjoyed watching this combat patrol sized match more than big armies. It's easier to keep track of what was going on, you get more acquainted with units and their capabilities, and of course it's less time consuming ;-)

Have you tried switching the WTP to a support model? Give it the -1ap enhancement and the OC secondary. Then just keep it safe and use it for -1ap (massive), synapse support, or objective control.

@@PlayOnTabletop I play a lot of nid patrol and a lot of my opponents are elite infantry armies like CSM and GK. I even have an Ork Army in the mix. I have found that rushing in and trying to kill my opponent with a big Alpha strike almost never works. I've definitely had battles like this one, where my entire force bounces off the enemy's armour and dies in a hail of gunfire and chainswords. Instead of collapsing my Army on the enemy, now I spread out and control the board. The termaguants get jammed onto control points, whenever possible make my enemies spend attacks on the unit I can bring back. The rest of my force is then used to punish and prevent over-extension. I religiously over extend with termagaunts while threatening maximum pain if my opponent tries to do the same with elite infantry. Then I just play for points and try to die as slowly as possible. I have found this to be much more successful against elite infantry, even if I still get tabled.

I'm in a combat patrol tournament tomorrow with Tyranids. I've never had much luck with the Von Ryan's Leapers either, but tommorow I'm going to try my best to use their Heroic Intervention special and have them lurk behind the termagants or psychophage. Can't be overwatched if I'm heroically intervening, right?

That tyranid patrol is hard to win with. A lot of bodies but very little firepower. They should have left the Psychophage its FNP aura to let the swarm turtle up on it when the terrain doesn't give many sheltered spots.

yeah it seems way weaker than playing tyranids in normal games where they seem really good and much more flexible. space marines also seem like an especially hard matchup for them in combat patrol?

10 Termagants have more OC than almost any enemy unit. You just run them around and take Objectives. And you have enough firepower to snipe few units, so enemy just don't have enough units to chase your resurrecting Termagants until end of battle

That wasn't particularly well played by Nick, but it was a fun match to watch regardless 😊 They didn't score primary a few times even though battleline units held the objectives. Teeming broods is also the best nid strat, which should have been used much, much more.

We often do! For our memberships we add a “aftermath” to the end of the video that goes through the game and often picks out an mvp.

If your looking at straight probability rolling a 4, 5 or 6 is 16.6% each or 1in6 Rolling a 4 or higher is 50% or 3in6 But it also is dependant on which number is upright when you start the roll. Blah blah blah I remember watching another video of a mathematician that is way smarter than me, say that after rolling dice 1000 times they that the chances of rolling a 4,5 or 6 was 66% on 6 sided dice but i didnt understand why, and can't find the video to ref sorry. 😅 Also James saying "I'm having fun" when tabling Nick in the last minute is the most orky thing ever! Haha can take the orks away from Mr Initiative, but can not take the Ork out of the boss! 😂😂😂

Well, this is true, vehicles and monsters have a rule, allowing them to shoot into combat as long as it’s not a blast weapon

The rule is called Big Guns Never Tire and applies to Vehicles and Monsters to allow them to shoot their weapons while in engagement. They will be -1 to the hit roll and there are other caveats.

Can someone explain the 90% chance nick had of succeeding that 4+ save? that math isn't adding up. he has a 50% chance on a 4+ save with one balanced D6, right? And that will always be that case, right?
