With a record 19 launches and Landings B1058.19 held the SpaceX record. She was almost home when a strong wind separated her from Octograbber. Octograbber looks fairly beat up. We are a US disabled veteran run, non-profit video production company whose mission is to bring other disabled US Veterans to witness a launch, experience US Space History and become part of our report. Our nonprofit 501(c)(3) is 100% tax deductible, just go to our webpage www.USLaunchReport.com which is merged with www.VeteransSpaceReport.com and find our Donate button. You can help change the life of a US Veteran. Thank You

This is so sad. I was really hoping this booster would end up in a museum at the end of its life. It’s the booster that returned the USA to launching people back in 2020.

@robertbackhaus8911
@robertbackhaus8911 5 ай бұрын
@@antibrevity The issue is that if the booster lands heavily on one leg, the strut crushes to absorb the shock but ends up shorter than the other legs. The booster rocks back and forth, and sits at an angle. The robot that secures the booster - the Octagrabber - can't properly latch on to it. So they have developed a system that levels the rocket - perhaps piping gas or hydraulic fluid into the compartment that crushes - so the rocket always stands straight, and can be secured by the Octagrabber.

Space X, the organization, is almost as impressive as their engineering. Elon Musk is so open and transparent about their achievements AND their failures that I am absolutely compelled to cheer and clap.......Even at times like this when a bent up piece of hardware is being moved in full public view. If you are a kid in school, hit the books hard and earn your place on this team...... *THIS IS A FUTURE WORTH EXPERIENCING!*

This has also happened with Falcon Heavy’s center core which was also lost at sea while being towed back to Cape Canaveral.
@awuma

I don't think any effort is being made to recover FH centre cores any more. I suspect their higher re-entry energy leaves them pretty beaten up, and FH customers are prepared to pay for the higher expendable performance.

The rocket is secured by a robot that latches onto the hold-down points, and then sits down on the deck. But if the rocket lands at an angle, the robot can't latch on correctly. On this one the crew boarded the vessel at some stage and added a chain, but it wasn't enough - images and videos show this chain had snapped.
