The province of Almería lives from the "mar de plástico" around the city of El Ejido, the marble on the town of Macael, on the central part of the mountains south of the Almanzora River Valley (There's a duplicated-road freeway through some parts of that valley & some parts of the road are being duplicated to connect this freeway part to A-7 near Huércal-Overa (East of the valley)), the tourism on its coast, because it has a dry, warm climate & more than 300 sunny days a year, especially on Summer & the Desert of Tabernas, the only desert that can be called a desert on Europe & a place where some Western movies were recorded, mainly Italian Westerns, AKA "Spaghetti Westerns", many of them with Terence Hill & Bud Spencer between the cast

Almeria port towards Beni Ansar Nador (Morocco) this place in the summer gets quite busy with all the Moroccan traffic.

This is one of my favourite drives! From the sea you can see the viaducts high above the city and they're very impressive. Also the landscape is incredibly beautiful. Traffic gets thick sometimes, they should plan on widening the road for the future though it could be prohibitively expensive.

Love these videos. They've given me some fantastic ideas for road trips, and when stuck with a week of drudgery at work make wonderful escapism :)

This one's a long way south of my preference for your routes up or down the Pyrenees or Alps so I didn't expect to be making a comment this time. The first guitar riff changed that plan because that's proper driving music !! If you dig out anything by A Flock Of Seagulls, you can show yourself stuck in roadworks for 10 minutes and it'll still be wonderful !!

As a curiosity: this highway follows the same route as the old "Via Augusta", built by the Roman emperor Augustus at the end of the 1st century BC. It goes from Cádiz to the French border, bordering the entire Spanish coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
