If you have been living in Spain for over five years and want to continue living there why do not you just apply for Spanish permanent residence and then continue with Spanish citizenship? Both Spain and UK allow dual nationalities. That is actual what Spanish people living in the UK are doing. You pay for your own stupidity.

@Cian MacGana the reason there's no food shortages lies in the lack of controls at the UK border, nothing is checked so nothing is delayed or returned. @@dirkbecker2961 I don't think your comments bear any relevance to the actual issue in the news item, but is just a general unicorn comment on Brexit. The lack of workers is harming productivity in many sectors of the economy, despite wages rising in some areas, giving rise to the abnormal spike in inflation we are seeing as rising costs are passed on to customers. The Euro is not crashing, that is your fantasy. Just look at how Northern Ireland is prospering if you want to see the benefits of staying in the single market and the Customs Union. The lives of the UK citizens who ignored the need to register after Brexit are not getting better, but I would say to Prithi Patel she should prevent the return of these idle parasitic people to the UK if at all possible.

No citizen that voted to get the UK out of the EU voted against their own interest. A complete new layer of government is silly when European countries could have done all the free trade and free movement, even the currency, without all the extra strings attached.
@richardcory5024
@richardcory5024 2 жыл бұрын
@@drawingdead9025 I think that is a pipe dream. Someone needs to tell you that free movement and a common currency require a common administration, even if free trade does not. Go and tell the United States that they don't even need a federal structure but can do all that they do without a government. I f it was not believed by the UK citizens living in Spain that they had a right to live there and rather that they should be repatriated then indeed they did not vote against their own interests. And fishermen and farmers not to mention many others clearly did not vote in their own interests, even if they did not think so at the time.

Half of my family is British and from first hand experience a relative working for city planning in London told us how many people she came in contact with actually believed that "Brexit" meant that Non-British had to leave Britain, you know .... Brexit. It's in the name, isn't it. That sentiment and the misinformed casting their vote is very characteristic of this mess. And somehow I am not surprised that the very same people who, driven by xenophobia, voted for Brexit somehow feel unfairly treated that their status in a now foreign country is no longer the same as before. When does the UK realises that it is a middling country with 70 million people heavily dependent on trade and commerce. Brits living abroad voted Brexit, farmers voted Brexit (depending on cheap labour and selling their produce to Europe), company owners whose livelihood depended on trading with Europe voted Brexit, regions that were subsidised with EU money voted "Leave". And then re-elected a mendacious PM who gave them the most radical version of Brexit despite the fact that he promised not to do that. Guys, you are not the victim here. I live in France. Working, paying hefty taxes and paying a mortgage. I agree with you.... There are too many Brits who simply sold up in the U.K. in order to retire at 55 or thought that the property market in the southern EU member states would enable them to have a slice of a similar property market back home, with rising values and the option of having a second home. But the reality is a bunch of expats who do not speak the language and are not integrated. It is amazing how many of them think they can run guest houses and hotels ... or restaurants... with no past experience. And all of this to serve other Brits on holiday!

@@shirleymental4189 Good morning, I'm interested to know what your main reasons for supporting leaving the EU is. I'm not here to argue or anything but simply to learn, when the referendum happened I was too young to vote in it, however we did hold a vote at school as a kind of experiment, and around 80 percent of the students voted to remain, in my constituency also, the majority voted to remain. I was mainly concerned about my future ability to live and work in the EU freely, as well as my ability to study as I am a student of Spanish and my girlfriend is German. The UK has pulled out of the Erasmus scheme and replaced it with the Turing scheme, which would make it incredibly difficult for me to do a year abroad without paying a lot of money and going through complicated processes, which would be difficult for me as I come from a low income family. I was also concerned about living with my girlfriend as this would prove difficult after Brexit. I was also concerned about my childhood friends who I grew up around, many from Poland and worried about their status after Brexit, and the healthcare workers as well who come from a wide array of nationalities. Brexit has also had the unforeseen consequence of creating a rift between Scotland and England, and the majority of them vote for the Scottish National Party. Brexit has not made my life better in any way, however it may hinder my prospects in the future. I'm sure people had reasons for voting for Brexit, but please can I have some from you?

When I say revoked I should have maybe used another word as at this moment of writing you can only drive on a UK licence for 6 months from start of residency before you have to exchange it for a Spanish one.
