You truly have a gift, been at it 6 months and to get to your level , I can only wish. I’d love to pay for the shipping and for a few pounds of flakes and spalls of that Georgetown, myself I use to buy rock online but it got to expensive because all I did was turn 99% of it to gravel , so I started picking it up in the creeks and fields. Look forward to seeing you at a Knapp N one of these days. Thanks for what you do.

@sonoman00ify11 ай бұрын
Im so frustrated. Bought three Georgia spalls.. They were really almost bifaces. I tried to thin one down with hammerstone and 1" copper bopper. Just couldn't get it thin enough to make arrowhead. Was about 5" longx4" wide and about 1-1/4" thick.
@clint68074 ай бұрын
Did you make that bopper?

Flakes coming off clean without any support... beautiful sight.
@myBanjohasemgz2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't think a lot of support is needed if the angles are set up correctly and the platform is weak enough

I've recently started to do some large percussion like you do, and I've ran into a bit of a repetitive problem. I am working obsidian and I'll end up with very hang fractured and crumbly platforms as I try to drive small flakes like you do. Any advice on avoiding those small flakes stacking instead of rounding a nice platform?
@myBanjohasemgz2 жыл бұрын
I'm really not sure when it comes to obsidian just what the platforms will hold up to. Use a finer abrader, and think of it more as polishing the platform rather than grinding. Make sure to set up where a ridge forms a backbone for the flake you wanna take and that there's no undulations or low spots that might fail in your flake path. Good luck!
@jeremiahharner45622 жыл бұрын
Do you sell spalls/decent sized flakes?

Cortex: "get rid of that sh*t." Hilarious. It looks like you switched to a shorter, if not smaller, aluminum billet as the piece got thinner? Is the diameter the same? Can you give approximate dimensions and length? Also, is the striking surface of each billet the same, or does the shorter billet have a more convex surface, as opposed to a flatter surface on the longer billet?
@myBanjohasemgz2 жыл бұрын
The larger biller is 1.75"dia x 6 long. And the shorter one was 1.75dia x3 long. The surfaces are very slightly domed, with two sides ground away to leave a narrower striking surface

Where do you get your knapping rocks! You have so many it would make a cavemans head spin
@myBanjohasemgz2 жыл бұрын
I've been lucky. I live in a pretty rock rich area, and have buddies I've traded out of stone. James aboud is who I got this Georgetown from, but I think he is currently out of material for the foreseeable future.
@ChrisPBacon-jl7oc2 жыл бұрын
@@myBanjohasemgz do we have any idea how ancient peoples colleted the rocks? I know we have some verified places but were stones and red ochre something they ammased in hordes or was it something they got as needed
@nonprooutdoorsandmore23032 жыл бұрын
Is that a copper deadblow?
@myBanjohasemgz2 жыл бұрын
It's just a solid piece of copper with a piece of pipe that was split and welded back together around the copper, to allow it to spin.
