Tony Hadley. Totally agree. I'm fairly sure Spandau wouldn't have been a success without Tony Hadley's voice, it's what set them apart from other groups. I can remember hearing "To cut a long story short" for the first time and being blown away by his voice. I wouldn't be surprised if Gary Kemp resented his songwriting abilities being overshadowed by Tony's voice and was at the root of their falling out, apart from which Tony is far more handsome than Gary.

As great as "True" is, I actually like this song and "Only When You Leave", better than True. I always thought this song should be a title song for a James Bond movie, not sure why but I always got James Bond movie theme song vibes from this song. The New Romantics Genre was cool bringing new smooth lush sounds and fast fashion with glossy magazines to the new MTV generation. Lead by Manchester UK band ABC and many bands from The UK like Duran Duran, Heaven 17, Visage, Ultravox, Flock of Seagulls and of course Spandau Ballet which I believe means fast fashion in England.

Oh how good it is to be back! Just moved house and haven't had any Internet for a while. Missed your reactions so now I'm going to catch up on all the ones I've missed! I love Spandau Ballet. Their songs are usually pretty uptempo and fun, but my favourite is 'through the barricades'. A slower tempo song which tells the tale of two young lovers who come from two different backgrounds (it was based around the divide between catholics and protestants, and both characters were from opposing sides of the barricades). It can be applied to many situations which bring together two people from two very different backgrounds and they both defy the divide. Please have a listen....its so poignant and quite heartfelt.

This group is interesting in many ways. Most of its members over the years attended the same high school, rated amongst the best state schools in England. They chose their name after the prison in Berlin where the last of the wartime nazi war criminals were kept - finally just one man (Rudolph Hess) doing a solo "Spandau ballet". Another set of boys I have not seen you review are the globally famous TNT Boys. There are lots of covers of theirs out there, but perhaps you might try: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mZOJqNiEmMrVoYU.html.
