I saw the Doors several times at the Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood back in the 60s. I think at one time they were the house band. When my son grew up, in the 90s, he told me that Robby Krieger was his favorite guitarist. A few months later I saw that Robby was going to be playing in my town. So I got tickets and took my son. He was bowled over by the concert and we went back stage to see if we could talk to him. He was so nice and gracious and took the time out to talk to my son about playing guitar. He really encouraged him. Robby is so talented and such a great guy.

Robby, I remember the first time I smoked hash, I got into my bed with my headphones on and listened to Spanish Caravan, and I was blown away. Loved the Flamenco solo and the electric guitar solo and effects I remember Jim's last refrain at the very end of the song, "Take Me, Spanish Caravan, yes I know you can", and then some really weird echo/delay from the instruments as the song faded out. Truly psychedelic!!! Definitely one of my favorite Doors songs of all time. You ARE the Maestro!

Why? Even bad drummers SHOULD be able to listen to a song a few times max and have it, it’s not like it would be some buddy rich shit. We’re talking mostly 4/4 rock stuff. Don’t even need to know any chords to play drums. Of course there are some people out there with zero rhythm who couldn’t find a beat to save their lives. You known those people, they usually look like old white people tryin to get down to some good gospel music.

I'm sure somehow growing up as a young child listening to "The Doors" during the 1970s; being played through my mother's stereo; her convinced that Jim was still alive and that they were meant to unite.....My hearing "Spanish Caravan" inspired me to later travel to Andalusia and Granada; to walk up the zigzagging street leading up to the Alhambra; where all of the guitar luthiers have their shops. Picking up the guitar as a teenager, the first couple riffs that I learned how to play were the Rolling Stones(Another of my mother's favorites) "The Last Time", and The Doors' "Love Me Two Times". I later learned how to play "Spanish Caravan" too. Thanks for existing Mr. Krieger. You helped introduce me to a lifelong love of Rock 'n' Roll guitar.

@@sergioiniguezdiaz5677 Granadinas has very little in common with Asturias. The peice Asturias may not be entirely original. That is to say Albeniz probably stole the main idea from spanish folk music.

Gracias Robie. Nunca, imaginé que vería a uno de los integrantes de mi banda favorita desde la juventud, enseñando a tocar una de mis canciones favoritas también. Spanish caravan. Escuchándolos desde los 14 años. Larga vida a the doors.

This is amazing, The Doors were the first band that I bought a CD for. I was in grade 6 so I was 11 or 12 and it changed my life. I know every doors song and I can sing them all word for word. Over the years theres hasn’t been much video, but now Robby is on youtube and its pretty fuckin sweet seeing this man teach us his music. Long live The Doors!

I loved listening to this, and I'm not even learning to play. 🤪 Just to hear that guitar, how beautiful this song is, it never gets old to me. Every time I hear it, it's like the first time. It strikes, in me, such a literal breathtaking, to the sound, to the flow, like something truly beautiful, when experienced, should.

Guitar lessons with Robbie Krieger: one of the best things to come from lockdown and the day after my birthday no less! I never imagined as a 15 year old that 20 years later that you'd be showing everybody how its done. THANKYOU Robbie! This song was one of my favourites from the doors growing up and a challenging one to pull off.

I actually know what he’s talking about. I’ve experienced that feeling he’s saying. Some chord progressions just seem to work better when done at a much faster speed or bpm. It’s kind of strange, but it’s real, even for average players. It’s just certain structures seem to need speed to keep up. Whereas it’s visa versa on other progressions.
@smasher.338

Its because once you learn them, and start always playing them at speed you just end up using muscle memory, and not thinking about timing or finger placement. To then play it slow, you have to think about everything you do, and even more so because you are essentially going against the "habit" you have learned.

funny, I said the same about road house blues. I've been playing that one in bars for 30 years. just not correctly. there is more than one way to play a song thanks to repeating notes on the fret board, but there is something very cool about playing it right.

SALUDOS!
