I am a homeschooling mother of two and my oldest is in 2nd grade. I learned my Spanish independently and have truly enjoyed my learning process over the years. And now I have the joy of teaching my son, something that is very important for his heritage and who he is as a half latino! So when I teach him in Spanish I don't have any English during that time, the main reason being he hears English all day long from his Dad and me outside of his study time. So no English. Just Spanish ! He is truly starting to enjoy it which is big success in my heart!! For sure! Love you content very helpful for this homeschooling mother! Keep up the great work!

It can be a tough thing to adjust to, but you can do it!! How many spaces are you traveling to this year?

Good tips Ashley! I have my own classroom and just finished my first year. I want to add better question words posters.. I just had the Spanish words. I want to add good pronoun posters (yo, tú, él, etc) I have some common target words (tiene, es, quiere, etc) i have a transition/ connectors list like pero, entonces, primero, etc) and a few more. School just purchased somos for me like I requested so I think I'll need less theme lista that went with my old stuff .

If I had more space I'd love to add those connectors!

Thank you! Sharing a classroom with another teacher that is controlling and very territorial is really difficult.

I agree. It can be so hard, but we need to stand up for ourselves!

I'm glad you liked it! Do you have anything you'd add or change as far as the posters you hang?

When I was teaching high school French 1 and 2, I did have verb posters up in the math classroom that I was teaching in. They had both French and English on them. And I had a poster with weather expressions on it (images plus words in French). I am currently only teaching upper level French classes (in the same math room) and decided to take the posters down last year as my students don't need them. And I am a fan of less visual clutter in the front of the classroom so that students are focusing more on me or the Smartboard and less on what is on the walls.

definitely makes sense when your students don't need them! I agree with reducing the visual input when you're not relying on them :)

Staying in 3rd person is a pitfall I’ve noticed many CI/tprs teachers fall in to. I’m still CI/tprs, but I think it’s important to include all conjugations, of at least the present tense, so kids get a better understanding of the complexity of verbs. I also like to all the different pronouns (including ones like “someone, somehow, somewhere… etc).

I agree, absolutely. Have you heard of "triangling"? It's similar to circling, but brings in more people to the discussion, which of course brings in more forms of the verbs!

Agree on 3rd person, include 1st person so student can respond.

I like pictures too! Sometimes I worry that the pictures are not clear enough and can contribute to confusion rather than clarify understanding

Question for the verbs: What do you put as the English for ser/estar? Do you differentiate them on the wall or put the same translation and differentiate them as they come up in class?
@SrtaSpanish

I have a "to be" on them and then a little smaller on estar I have "place/feeling", but I don't put a lot of emphasis on the distinctions, I just give them lots of input with the two so they can pick up when to use one or the other!

For the ser and estar I use a poster with “doctor and place” so students can identify and memorize when to use ser versus estar. Google it, and check it up. In my opinion, It is the best mnemonic for Spanish 1 🤓

Thank you for this video! I post the first and third person forms of high frequency verbs. I also post question words and frequency adverbs…I didn’t teach the frequency adverbs, but my students just naturally started using them! I loved that they would add ‘un poco’ or ‘a veces’ onto their sentences!
