The beachfront water's been very clean and the Spanish Mackerel finally showed up on a day I was fishing. Fishing all summer in Galveston it was great to hook up to a few...the fishing was on fire. Kastmater Spoons did the job and again!

I used several sizes because I kept getting broke off & lost a lot of spoons. I think the smallest I used was around 18 grams & largest was around 32 grams. And everything in between

I don't know that I've ever caught a Spanish Mackerel, and I don't believe I've ever eaten one either. What do they taste like, and what is the best way to cook and serve them?

You know I've had them either. I gave the fish to my in-laws & I was going to try some, but I never made it over there to eat lol. Maybe next time I'll keep 1 for myself

Lol yea its a double no no for KZfaqrs. So KZfaq Creators will share locations for views or subs despite the dislike from the fishing community... but I try to stay on the right side right for everyone in our fishing community. With a little effort of Google Maps you can easily find this location maybe not exact but close. 🤙🏼

What length and weight spoon are do y’all recommend. I see alot of people use 2oz but what is good for smacks in your opinion

I like a one oz spoon or close to that. But like any fish if there not hitting that you'll have to change it up. When the water is extremely clear go smaller, as small as you can throw. My rule of thumb, I'll have a under 1oz, a 1oz, and a spoon just over an oz handy & try to figure out the bite. Change up your retrieve as well & see what they'll react to. I like 2 oz spoons for Jack's

You know I was told by the fork. I even looked it up online & found conflicting ways to measure them. I downloaded the Texas Parks and Wildlife app & it shows you to straighten the tail & measure it to the tip. But it was too late I already uploaded the video. I need to add that information in the description section on the video. I hate giving out wrong info.

Thanks, I was using 30# fluorocarbon. I lost around 6 spoons though. I've used wire line before but seems like I get much less bites fishing with wire. I found some 30# wire line I'm going to try next time. I think it's thin enough if the waters not too clear

Which months are the best to fish for Spanish Mackerel in Galveston? I heard June was good but do you think there's still a good chance to catch some this summer?

From the end of May all through summer you can run into them, from surfside jetties to Galveston. But it is very hit and miss. Last summer I saw a lot of ppl catching them but every time I went out they weren’t around. I finally got into them and the were very thick. They can be found in clean water so keep your eye out when it’s clean 🤙🏽

@@jakestarefarm5962 Yes, I leave you links of spoons that I use and leader line. The spoons are a great value and much cheaper on Amazon. The leader is a little on the higher end at cost but it the best line I've used so far. You can use wire leader, but they have such a great eyesight your bite count will go way down. Don't put anything else on the leader line but your lure, like I said they have great eyesight & will hit anything... swivels, beads, chatter weights. It was awhile back, we started at sunrise. We crushed the sheepshead on live bait then switch to lures for reds. Crazy day

Hi, how do we forecast whether the water is clear or not before we go? I went there on Sept 6 and the water was choppy.

It's was tough this week. The water was forecasted to be clean & when I went out Tues the tide was pushing had from the southeast making everything muddy all the way down to the west end. I use Swellinfo.com & it's hit & miss with the clarity but pretty much right on for the surf, flat. Typically I like to wait for the winds to shift over night out of the north & either that morning if they stay low over night or afternoon the water has a very good possibility of clearing up. But honestly all summer it's really a guessing game. Some days it will be so clean 200 yards off the beach & never come in.
