Learn how to rent a car in Spanish, including how to get a quote, make a reservation, and get the best deal. We’ll walk you through two real-world conversations with a car rental company in Mexico. By the end of this video you’ll be able to:
1. Get a Quote and Make a Reservation by Phone: 1:01
2. Make an Online Reservation: 11:05
3. Call to Confirm a Reservation: 12:52
4. Get the Best Deal: 15:58
Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything. There’s a breakdown section in English after each Spanish Conversation where we go over the most important words and phrases. We also have subtitles available in Spanish and English.
In the first section, we call a car rental agency in Mexico to get a quote for a small car and make a reservation. Talking on the phone is probably the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do when speaking a foreign language. But study these phrases and you’ll be miles ahead of the game!
In the next section, we walk you through the process of making a reservation online. Here you’ll learn important vocabulary for filling out the reservation form correctly.
After that, you’ll learn how to confirm a reservation by phone. This is important because it’s not uncommon for reservations to get lost. Don’t get stuck without a vehicle for your trip! Pay attention to these phrases to make sure your car will be ready and waiting for you when you go to pick it up.
Lastly, we’ll show you how we’ve been able to rent cars for as little as $4 a day in Mexico. Follow the tips here and you can too.

I could understand May and Jim quite easily but the lady on the phone! Well that was like a machine gun to my ears but I loved the sound of it too. I will persevere. Muchas gracias!

That's the right attitude, Paul! It's easy to get frustrated, but the successful keep going. You're on the right track! This is without a doubt our most difficult video so far, but we always make sure to have accurate subtitles available in Spanish and English so that they are accessible to everyone. Either way, talking on the phone in a foreign language is hard. It doesn't get any more "real-world travel Spanish" than this! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! ¡Sigue practicando! 😊 -Jim

Hi a bit of a dumb question, noted that this is indicated as specifically for rental in Mexico - can this be used for Spain as well?

Renting a car in Europe isn't a problem. There are many rental agencies (both local/small and internationally known Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, etc.). We took a car as in Spain as Portugal, booking through the Internet. Each time we use another agency as the price in different countries for the same company is different. All this information we learned through the service Rental24H - rental cars rental24h.com . If you want to order, pay attention to the franchise, insurance coverage, etc.

Thanks for commenting! We haven't rented a car in Europe yet, but that's good to know! Sometimes agencies give foreigners a hard time renting a car in Latin America. ¡Saludos! -Jim

You two are so cute. At the start of your video you say the subjunctive ' empecemos ' . Explain why you don't use empezamos.
@mgbp7
@mgbp7 6 жыл бұрын
Coco S It’s the imperative (Let’s get started), which looks the same as the subjunctive in the 2nd person plural form (nosotros) for most verbs. Examples: Let’s eat: ¡Comamos! Let’s sing: ¡Cantemos!
@SpanishandGo
@SpanishandGo 6 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. We're actually using the imperative, in this case, to say "let's start!" as a commanding action. Does that make sense? Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

Hi, Shakita! We try to focus on real-world situational Spanish and try to avoid doing straight grammar lesson videos, but we might be able to work out a lesson that might be able to help you. We'll write your idea down and see if we can fit it in to our style. We appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! ¡Saludos! -Jim
