I once read that there was deleted scene with Stix/Levi/Sparkle/Delores waiting impatiently for a late Sister to arrive at the hall, and she finally arrives dressed differently than everyone else. I was disappointed when Sparkle was finally released on DVD, but didn't include any bonuses (cast interviews, deleted scenes, etc).

Yes they messed this movie up badly. A total waste. Aaliyah was originally supposed to be in the remake as Sparkle it was severely delayed after she died and I know she wouldn't have tolerated how they messed up the movie.

Boogie Down Bronx I was a male dancer here in NYC. So I know how challenging it is to project masculinity at times. An issue that people might take offense at these days. But I remember being careful of what I would and would not do. Again I'm not hating on him, however in ballet men and women almost never do the same moves. I guess that is why his dancing grabbed my attention.

My favorite scene from the movie. Sister was too much for her time. They all could act so well. I was disappointed that the soundtrack only had Aretha on it. The music from this movie was the biz. I saw this as a kid and its a movie that I continue to watch time to time. Miss watching this with my grandma.

Maybe. In your opinion. But Aretha didn't do it justice. The cast should have been on the soundtrack. IT was their emotion that brought those words to life. I heard Aretha and all I wanted her to do was shut up. Now don't get me wrong, she is a great singer but she was not the best fit for those songs. Chaka Khan would have been a better fit.

+SouthernBeautie2010 I agree. I heard that a lot of people were disappointed that the soundtrack didn't have the actor's vocals on it. Don't get me wrong. Love Aretha, but preferred Lonette McKee's version because it fits the movie better. There was a lot of controversy over this.

As I recall, it just didn't make sense. The expectation was for the " original motion picture soundtrack." We were leery of 'stars' overstepping their bounds and taking the material of others. As with Diana Ross replacing Stephanie Mills in the Wiz movie. It was so, so disastrous and so, so regrettable . It would've been better with Lena Horne as Dorothy. Similarly, Aretha's album went nowhere.

Lonette McKee is magic in this film! The entire cast is very good but her performance is just exceptional. Dwan Smith and Irene Cara give lovely performances and are cute as buttons The Star quality McKee exudes is just mesmerizing. Why Hollywood did not make better use of this extraordinary Singer /Actress is one of the great mysteries. Thank God for the work she did do and The Lp's she recorded and the Stage Shows and Concert Gigs she did .Miss McKee worked she was too talented and magnetic not to get work but Good Lord that Halle Berry who is not half the Actress McKee is became huge and won an Oscar and Lonette Mckee never got her propers is disgraceful!

Sister is all but THROWING it into the audience. When I want a pickup, I watch this scene. It's funny, sexy and all-out riotous. This was a GREAT scene from one of the earlier Classic Black movies. Too bad it's not better known outside of Black audiences.

The filming style is what made this movie stand out to me ever since the first time I saw it years ago. The camera slowly passing behind the crowd's heads so we could see glimpses of the stage- brilliant. Love the "darkness" of the film too, visually. I only saw bits and pieces of the remake, but it was definitely much more colorful and polished looking, which totally changes the feel, and in this case not for the better.

Curtis Mayfield's is the one wrote produced and played the song how old are you didnt know that I'm 51 I was 10 when the original my mom wore out the album. And the reason again I said why they wanted to aretha to do the soundtrack because she was a bigger artist thank you and she was the biggest selling artist at the time you dont know that Google it. I hope your a youngin and dont know better if your older that's fucking embarrassing.
