I've been searching everywhere trying to buy this skirt to no avail. I finally just said chuck it! Im going to try to make it myself. I didn't think I'd find anything like what I wanted and would have to Frankenstein something together. Lo and behold! Your video was the FIRST to pop up! Going to get the fabric right now!! Thank you!!

I love this tutorial and I left a comment once before. I'm in the middle of making my own when I got confused on what to do with the third panel for the front. Do I fold it in half and crease it, so the right side is on both sides? Im using light weight satin and there is a right and wrong side. The back of the skirt is two panels sewn together, so the right side is visible from both sides. If there is any additional instruction you could give in case I missed something, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advanced!!

I don't understand where the 3rd panel goes. All three seem to be a half circle, but when you wear wearing it it does not seem like the front panel has enough material to be a full half circle.
@sparklybelly
@sparklybelly Жыл бұрын
2 of the panels are connected, and 3rd panel goes in the front. So the front panel is actually a full half circle, but when you wear the skirt, it gathers and appears smaller. But you see the effect of it when you twirl and the skirt flies! 😊

I am interested in using this for a fairy costume, but I'm not comfortable with showing so much of my legs with the slits...Is there any way I can make the skirt without the slits showing my whole leg as I twirl?
@sparklybelly
@sparklybelly 6 жыл бұрын
Oh how fun :) I think you can achieve your desired result by: First, make the waistband 1 piece - instead of cutting 4 pieces, cut 2 pieces of 5cm x (hip measurement + 2cm) Then before attaching the waistband, sew about 10-15cm to join the tops of the slits. Finally attach the waistband. This way the slits are closed at the top, but when you twirl, the slips will open up and show your legs :)

Wait, when did you sew the sides of each panel?
@jahilary_122
@jahilary_122 Жыл бұрын
Did you sew each one side of the two panels together? I'm kind of lost. It's a three panel skirt but to me it seems like two panels only, the back panel and the front panel. Unless the two panels were sewed together which became your back panel? Please confirm. Thank you so much.
@sparklybelly
@sparklybelly Жыл бұрын
Good question! Sorry about my late response. If it's not too late, yes, the 2 panels are sewn together and placed as the back panel (but the back panel wraps around to the front side). And the front panel is just 1 panel. Hope this makes sense!

@icegoddess1308
@icegoddess1308 7 жыл бұрын
why would you multiple by 2 if you're just gonna end up dividing by 2 in the very next step? Why not just add 2 and then divide by pi?
@sparklybelly
@sparklybelly 7 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, you're correct :) I added it to show how the math works, but like you said, you can just add 2 then divide by pi :)

If it's machine washable fabric, you can speed up the relaxation of the bias by spritzing the garment inside and out with enough water to make it very damp and then hanging it up overnight to dry. The water lets the fiber relax and the weight of the water will help it stretch. Do not get it soaking wet and then wring. That'll probably stretch it out "funny". If the fabric is dry clean only, the only way to speed up the process is to pin or clip multiple weights to the hemline. A good DIY hem weight is 20 pennies wrapped in a square of scrap fabric. Use a large safety pin to pin these "bags" to the hemline, about 6-8" apart. The wider the hemline, the more "bags" you will need.
