Right at 1:13, it's cool to see how the hawk uses its legs to 'launch' off the branch!

Love the film. Respect for it. Every single scene. Every move of birds. In this film there are visible characters of those birds. The most amazing scene is at 3:18 - when jay was waiting until the last moment to trick the sparrowhawk. Awesome!

And, of course, the Jay would quite happily eat any Sparrow Hawk chicks, right out of the nest, or even eggs...It looks like, in the previous video, the branch was baited for the Jay, there appeared to be a small plastic bag with nuts of some kind.

Great footage. I love sparrowhawks. Notice it was a female that took down the jay. I doubt a male could take down a full grown jay.

Beautiful footage. I’ve learned something here, I thought Sparrowhawks hunted purely by stealth catching their prey unawares. Hadn’t realised they harassed some prey like this.

A male sparrowhawk probably wouldn't have pulled that off.

Males like to practice, getting ready for the real event , but wouldn’t normally take anything bigger than a thrush sized bird . Brilliant filming.

Interesting that the sparrow hawk does not want to prey on the jays when they are perched . The hawk prefers to attack while the jay is in flight

Very nice captures Steinar., a joy to see. What shutterspeed did you use at 180fps, there almost no to little wing blur and I guess that 1/360 would create blur.

Thanks Arild, i use mostly shutter angle 180d/shutter speed 360 when shooting yes :) i use some time 360d/ 1/180 in lowlight.

@@steinareileraasnaturefilms thanx, I have only 4k 25 or 1080 up to 100 fps (4x slow) at the moment do I want less wingaction blur when going slow. I normally use the rule of tvice the shutter over fps

great to see you edited it into slow motion. It would have been a way too fast to watch in real time. Great camera work. hours and hours went into that short film. magnificent work with fantastic views and wildlife to co-opertrate for you.
