Sailing with and beside a Pathfinder on Milford Haven at Gwynn's Island, Virginia. Both self-built wooden boats. The Pathfinder was designed by John Welsford. The Melonseed evolved as a traditional 19th century duck hunting skiff of the Mid-Atlantic.

It's 6 AM and my chronic lower back pain has been exasperated two fold by people ay PT that don't know how to treat a herniated disc. So I peruse my you-tube with a cup of Joe and a chocolate Enttimens donut trying to avoid the opioids. And then I find the perfect video to calm my restless soul. People I know and have shared an evening at St. Michaels in the Steamboat Building singing sea Chanteys late into the night. I so miss this years Small Boat Festival. Wood is wonderful.

I love Milford Haven! Beautiful body of water. I kept my 1968 Pearson Wanderer 30 in a slip in Queens Creek, just across Hills Bay from where you were. I finally gave the boat away earlier this year. But now I have a 19-foot plywood and epoxy traditional Chesapeake Bay Sharpie on a trailer that I'm hoping to work on and get back into sailing condition by next year. Here's hoping we can meet up out there on the Bay somewhere and do some sailing!

I was sailing Gwynn Island this week.. beautiful as always. You really captured it well in this video, it's a magical place. Time just slows down.

Plans for the smaller Melonseed boat can be found at the Smithsonian and Woodenboat. The Pathfinder plans can be had from the designer John Welsford.
