The original models of the PlayStation 3 are highly sought after due to their compatibility with PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. Today I wanted to unbox the 80GB model that plays PS2 games through software emulation. I picked this one up online complete in the box to check out here in 2021.

Something about this era is so nostalgic for me. I still think the PS3/360 era was the golden age of online multiplayer. The PS3 interface specifically just felt so premium and ahead of it's time. It's still ahead of it's time in a lot of ways to this day.

It's was probably the only time where online gaming was actually fun & brought people together. Now, online games aren't worth playing, since game developers always release unfinished products, broken servers & also focus too much on microtransactions or loot boxes. And the sad part is, that a lot of older online games get their servers shut down over time. Which is really sad. ☹️

Definitely a good find. I remember I had a PS2 backwards compatible PS3. About a year or two into it, the disc drive would eventually ware out not being able to read PS3 games. Then wouldn’t read PS2 games. Then the disc drive just stopped working and it eventually died out entirely. My favorite memory of my PS3 was when I was playing the Uncharted demo and after I played it I immediately went out to buy the game. First time I ever went to a Walmart at 1:00 in the morning to buy a game, lol.

@homerthompson416 3 жыл бұрын
@@souljastation5463 Wow can't believe how expensive PS3 fats have gotten just looking them up on Offerup a minute ago. Which is crazy because in the US the only Fats with even partial BC support are CECHA, CECHB, and CECHE. My fat is CECHP which was the last model of fat released in the US so has some die shrinks on both the CELL and RSX that keep it running nice and quiet for me, though they're not shrunk as much as the Slims. I think CECHP are 65 nm on both CELL and RSX while Slim and beyond are 45nm lithography. The fats on 90nm lithography though are the ones that use a ridiculous amount of power and seem to die off quick, and I could swear there were some models of PS3 fat that even had 65nm CELL but 90nm RSX. Surprised the Super Slims weren't made on 28nm lithography since that was widely available by the time PS3 Super Slim launched and you'd think it would have saved Sony money while making it the most reliable model. But as it stands Slim is probably the best PS3, especially CECH-21xx and before since you can put CFW on it.
@freshtomato834
@freshtomato834 3 жыл бұрын
@@homerthompson416 slim is indeed the best model. The fat one was just crazy for its time and so you couldn't expect it to be reliable. Then the slim adjusted everything that was wrong with the fat. The super slim was just a cheap model made to milk the last years of that gen. The fat especially 60gb is very expensive because it has the retrocompatibility but honestly I wouldn't care, ps2 games run better on a pc now...you can push some 4k, antialiasing and such on them. I believe slim models can run forever without changing the thermal paste, if you keep them in an open space and don't live in a very hot place of course.
@homerthompson416
@homerthompson416 3 жыл бұрын
@@freshtomato834 I'm not a fan of PCSX2 at all. Every version I have tried and every game I have tried on it has at least minor bugs like missing textures or audio slowdowns or various other graphical corruption if I run with any kind of hardware acceleration. I have never played a game on PCSX2 that wasn't littered with bugs while even on newer emulators that should be harder to run like RPCS3 and Cemu I have done full playthroughs of games that ran great. When it comes to PS2 I just stick with my PS2 Fat even though I gotta play at 480i.
