Will running coaxial speakers in series or parallel effect the crossover pts? If so, is this effect negligible in most cases or will it alter the performance significantly, and I realize different speaker combo's have varying ranges of performance that can either offer flexibility or limit it regarding crossover points and overall performance/musicality.

I’m connecting two speakers and a subwoofer to a power amplifier. My power amplifier divides into three separate channels with each channel having an impedance of 4-8 ohms. Each speaker has 7 ohms (6.7 measured) and my subwoofer is 3 ohms (3.5 measured). Although the power amplifier says a minimum of 4 ohms impedance, could I connect the subwoofer or would it burn out? And if not, would I be able to add a 1 ohm resistor to the negative lead of the subwoofer or would nothing happen at all?

If you wire two different speakers (let's say a 20W RMS and a 100W RMS speaker) of the same impedance in parallel, would you have any issues with the 20W speaker being overpowered?
@KICKER-AUDIO7 жыл бұрын
This is dependent of the amp's power of course, but this is exactly why sets of separates get a passive crossover. The tweeter can't normally take the kind of power the midrange can, plus it needs a different frequency range to perform properly - hence the passive crossover. It changes the ohm load internally for the tweeter while altering the frequencies that get to each speaker, so they can perform their best without risking damage to the components. Without that "buffer" (for lack of a better term) the RMS of the amp probably does have an opportunity to damage the lower powered speaker. There are many videos out there on building your own passive crossover, or you can buy them from DIY audio websites. Sorry if that was an overkill answer to your question, but I'd rather you have too much info than too little. If you need more detail, please do let me know.

I just purchased a set of Kicker 6x9 CS Components, and am inquiring if I can run them in parallel to my 2 ohm per channel. Using just one of the channel to support to kicker 6x9 in parallel. I will be checking with a volt meter. I’m gonna check the amp ad well, but the 1.8 ohm thing is throwing me off. Im thinking that the amp might be made for this situation. But it’s always better to be safe than to fry your equipment...

What if I was to wire 4 of these with an amplifier for my door speakers

Hey, thanks for this! I have Kicker CS components up front and coaxials in the rear. They’re rated 100 watts rms 4 ohm. My amp is an MTX 4 channel producing 60 watts rms to each at 4 ohm. This amp is 2 ohm capable, 90 watts x 4. It can also be bridged, putting out 180 watts x 2. Can I wire my speakers in series, then run them bridged? 2 on the front, 2 on the rear? Would that give me 90 watts per speaker?

This might be a dumb question though I feel I must ask as I am new to car audio. Do you have to run an amp for coax speakers? I’m wanting to upgrade my cars audio but I’m not sure the route to take. Thanks in advance
@KICKER-AUDIO5 жыл бұрын
Angel Martinez While it is not mandatory, it is highly recommended. You don’t just improve the power for loudness, you do it mainly for clarity. Also, most radios under power speakers which eventually makes them blow.

@@KICKER-AUDIO underpowering speakers will make them blow? how is that possible?

Chaplin Under powering speakers will cause them to clip. Clipping is the express route to destroying a speaker.

@KICKER-AUDIO Жыл бұрын
Typically you dont use 8 ohms in car audio. 4, 2 or 1 are all more common. Here is how to wire: www.kicker.com/wiring-diagrams If you need more help, call us at 405-624-8510 and ask for Tech Support. We are open weekdays from 8-5 central time.

Ohms law applies to all speakers, so if you're trying to get a specific ohm load to your amp then then is this a great reference.

1.8 won't go protect with good voltage and impedance always rises with play time.
@KICKER-AUDIO Жыл бұрын
Good voltage, proper wiring and adequate battery power always helps. It also depends on the true load of the subs, how they're wired, and the amp's tolerances.
