a video of me speaking korean for at least 90% of it heheh :D this was quite the challenge :0
hello my friends it’s nina happy sunday! in this episode of not really studying with nina i decided to challenge myself by actually trying to speak korean in it as much as possible! i have been studying korean for the last 3 years, and i frequently study korean on my channel, so i just wanted to push myself to finally speak korean in a video. i’ve never spoken so much korean in front of a camera so it was interesting to see what i said and what my voice sounds like. i didn’t realize how,, dEEP my voice is in korean??,, HAHAHAAH
i hope this is just a fun time :) i mostly made this video for my own reference, in hopes that my Korean becomes better over time of course. maybe i’ll come back to this video years later and see how much i’ve changed, HOPEFULLY!
i’m not fluent in Korean so of course it’s not perfect and there will be grammatical/spelling errors! just gotta keep studying and practicing :)
thank you for watching and for being here and i will see you in my next video!!

She didn’t even make any vocab or grammar mistake so It was hard for me to believe that she couldn’t speak before 2017...!!! I kinda got study passion from watching this video. I should study and learn more English even if i think i know well. Thank you Nina❤️

@@shireenkulkarni8916 watch looots of KZfaq, Korean Billy or ttmik is great. I recommend the websites Talk to me in Korean, and How to study korean. Even just searching up how to make Korean sentences can help. You need structure, so a yt series or website should be your main way of learning. While doing that you can use secondary sources like apps Tip: be consistent, even 20 mins a day is better than 2 hours in one day a week. Tip 2: don't change the main source you're using because you could get lost in what to study next and lose motivation. Tip 3: try make it fun, switch it up a bit. Like one day mainly learn vocab, another day grammar, then studying song lyrics or a film

Well she uses some expressions or words that Koreans won’t use and I can definitely tell she is non-Korean speaker cuz her pronunciation sounds like English. Sounds like leaf flowing? When you are trying to speak Korean you got to speak the letters really bold. ok I’m Korean so maybe I can’t really relate to this lol but yeah.. western accents is kinda cringy tho especially english accent. Maybe because people learn or study the pronunciation in romanization. I guess thats why it makes it people to have accents.

a few smol tips that you might benefit from!! Minor pointers :) Your Korean makes complete sense and is understandable - I'm personally very proud of your progress and perseverance! these are just tweaks to phrases or sentences that caught my attention for the very slight lack of fluency. During your intro portion, you used 한국말 and 영어말. To a native or fluent speaker those phrases, especially 영어말, has potential to sound a bit awkward. Here's why: 말 generally means speech, which is correct in this context. However, 어 is used more frequently for the same context. It means language. So in the phrase 영어말, you use both language and speech since 어 is part of 영어 - English. The point is that the 말 is unnecessary. EX: 영어를 할수 있다, 영어를 주로 쓴다. For 한국말, it's also correct and validly used, but 한국어 is more common to refer to the whole language (oral and written) instead of just the speech. Another phrase in the intro portion that caught my attention was when you were explaining your parents' story. "한국에서 조금 자랐고 나중에 미국으로 이사갔어요." This pointer is a bit more about overall fluidity. The sentence makes total sense and is grammatically correct too. However, it can sound a bit redundant considering the repetition of "랐고" present in the past few sentences. To fix this, you could say "한국에서 조금 자라다가/살다가 나중에 미국으로 이사왔어요." The phrase 자라다가 has more of a sense of continuity and flow in the story of the sentence. Instead of ending the thought as 자랐고, 자라다가 expresses the shifting and transition of them growing up and moving. I also changed the last portion to 이사왔어요 instead of 이사갔어요 because you (and your parents) are situated in America right now, so it would make more sense to say you guys came to America instead of went/go. It's just minor details! "근데 여기서 한국 사람이 한국말 하잖아요" could sound more fluent if phrased like "근데 여기에 한국어를 하는 한국인들이 많잖아요." or "근데 여기있는 한국사 람들은 데부분 한국어를 사용 하잖아요" The first phrase emphasizes the point that there are many Koreans who speak Korean. The latter suggests the commodity of the use of Korean amongst the Korean in America. The next few sentences you said were about how you did not use/speak Korean in the past. To take the sentence "2017년 전에 한국말 아예 안 했어요" as an example, you could make it more formal/complex/fluent by saying "2017년 전에는 한국어를 아예 사용하지 않았어요." the 는 after 전에 is just a slight indicator that grounds the idea of the time period. The first change is 안 한다 --> 하지 않는다. (Both are correct and used in the Korean language). To translate into English, it is a small difference of placement of the articles of speech not do --> does the not. Okay, it doesn't really make sense in English but the negation coming after the verb generally sounds better. And the last change is that I used 한국어 which leads to the use of the verb 사용한다. In Korean you say "use the language" and "do the speech". 언어를 사용하다. 말을 하다. You added a small note of 아쉬움 of only using English, even to respond to your mother's Korean. "제가 계속 영어로 대답했어요." Again, it makes perfect sense and isn't particularly wrong or incorrect. I think it would be more relevant if you said "제가 항상 영어로 대답했어요". So substituting 계속 with 항상. Both 계속 and 항상 mean always, but 계속 has a sense of repetition in the future (moving forward) in it while 항상 is more about consistency in relative to time (both past and future). To give an English translation of this tweak, you 'persistently responded in English', instead of 'continued to respond in English'. I noticed you said 이해 못해요 - speaking of not being able to understand those who don't like water. Although it is grammatically correct, there is another way to say "not understand" "can't understand" which is 이해가 안간다. 이해가지 않다. There is no direct translation to English that would make sense since it literally means the understand is/ is not going. But I observed that this phrase sounds a bit more fluent and native. I think the English translation can help depict and differentiate the meaning a bit further despite not making a whole lot of sense. 이해를 할수 있다- is used as more of a statement form, I am able to DO the understanding. 이해가 간다- is used carrying a sense that the understanding is moved, I can reach and understand ______. This is not to feel like negative criticism! My intentions are purely in hopes that you may think it advantageous to get some feedback :)) You will 항상 have my support!!

Wow. I am a total beginner at Korean but I can read hangul and understand really basic words. So I decided to read all of this aloud and I kept stumbling over the pronunciation and sometimes misreading and going back but I think this was very useful for my ability to read hangul and the understanding of how sentence structures work. I was wondering whether you were raised English or Korean because it seems that you are perfectly fluent in both.

Probable, when you're speaking a different language you're more likely to sound like the people you're learning from, if that makes sense. So for example, im learning Korean and I don't have a tutor or any Korean friends but I use some yt channels like Korean Englishman, Korean unnie, and ttmik (Talk to me in Korean). And I also listen to Korean music, and watch Korean idols, so im more likely to sound like one of them. So, if someone just used ttmik then ud probably sound like hyunwoo lol (he does most of the teaching)

Force them to speak Korean. They'll be thankful when they're older. I was raised triligual (English, Italian, Vietnamese) and I'm extremely thankful my mother taught me Vietnamese. Please don't be lazy on this matter and when they're older, it's going to be much harder. Immerse them in the language and be a good mother. It's part of their cultural identity and for you to not make them speak Korean, it's like accepting that it's okay for them to forget the language. Start now!

I love the Korean language, after watching a few kdramas I found myself starting to understand the word so I figured why not start to learn the language as I was looking forward to learning a new language this quarantine. I don't want to make it too stressful so I want to only learn speech for now and maybe in the future learn reading and writing. The only problem is that I have no idea where to start. I'm writing out common phrases that I hear a lot in order to at least learn the basics

@@nicoya2496 I'm not a native Korean speaker but a tip is positioning your tongue to say more of an L but then pronouncing a mix of both r and l. Honestly trying to figure out which English letter it sounds like isn't very helpful because. 우리 the ㄹ sounds like an R sound but 사람 the ㄹ sounds a little more like an L.
