As a Ndebele woman I’m dismayed to see my blanket being used by criminals who stoke fear and terrorize communities. That blanket is to be respected, a whole cow has to be slaughtered for one to reserve the right to wear that blanket. Respect our cultures and respect our ancestors; keep them away from the filth you do. People’s lives are not are not yours to take. Women don’t exist for your sexual pleasure. Initiation school is not something to joke with. No wonder you young men are so lost, you toy with things that aren’t meant to be toyed with. Poverty is not excuse and neither is growing up an orphan. Shame on you!

Gangs are everywhere. I am from tiny New Zealand, with only 5 million people. Believe it or not we have a huge gang problem. We even have multi-generational gangsterism. Kids, moms, dads and even grandparents in the same gangs. We have to look at the root issues to solve the problem. It all starts with poverty & lack of opportunities among a segment of society. Add in single parent households and boredom among the youth. You get gangs!

@DONNELL836 Yes, I know our situation in no way compares to Cape Town. More people are murdered in a single day in Cape Town than in 6 month in New Zealand. Also, Cape Town has more murders per year than the U.S. cities of Chicago, Detroit, New York City and L.A. combined. My point was that all these issues with gangs, all over the world have the same root causation. Poverty and socioeconomic disenfranchisement among a lot of people. People living in communities with little to no jobs, hope or opportunities. For many generations. The gangs often fill the void, but has disastrous consequences for society.
