"Conspiracy theory" is such an overused term meant to disparage anyone who dares question the mainstream narrative... Definition:conspiracy-noun, plural con·spir·a·cies. the act of conspiring. an evil, unlawful, treacherous, or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons; plot. a combination of persons for a secret, unlawful, or evil purpose. Law.an agreement by two or more persons to commit a crime, fraud, or other wrongful act. any concurrence in action; combination in bringing about a given result. I think that sums up how ALL the oligarchs/ multinational banking/ corporate conglomerates operate throughout the entire world...🤔

That's just it, they don't know for sure. They have two bodies. One gun that was found NOT in the abandoned cons vehicle but in that area. That and tire tracks. Could Kenneth have murdered his family and tossed them in the river? Then drove off and tossed the gun out a window? Could he have murdered them and pushed the car in, then left on foot, tossed the gun and took a bus off to a new life? If Don set this up, how did he get that gun to the cons? He took it with him in the military and mailed it to them? He was home on leave and met them in a bar or something? Where is the connection between cons, gun and Don? This case is ridiculous.

Ever search a river? Thought not. If you had searched this river you wouldn't have survived long enough to type your comment. Murky fast moving rivers are extremely dangerous. It's not really even safe to put a boat in that river let along divers. Dredging is not possible due to the extremely rocky bottom. Cameras won't work because of no visibility. The only reasonably safe way to search this river is to divert it. Want to cough up the hundreds of millions of dollars that will cost?

Dredging a river is not always a simple matter. That river has a rocky bottom. You can't dredge a rocky bottom. Also a river is very dangerous to dive in. The only really good way to inspect the river bottom would be to divert the river.

They just want privacy. How would you like the media knocking at your door with cameras exposing something you did as a kid? Now it’s being misconstrued and you family knows. I also attended Rose City Park grade school in N.E. Portland. My friend, a boy in my class, was invited to go with this family on this trip. He didn't go and when he told me the family disappeared it was so terrible. Knowing that a close friend of mine could have been missing as well, and feeling so badly for the poor family, was the first event of such magnitude I had seen as a child. Likely, they didn't have people or equipment available at that time in rural Oregon (Cascade Locks is still considered fairly rural today, even with modern interstate highways). By the time this happened, the ship building yards of WW2 were gone, and skilled scuba divers along with them. Police didn't have nearly the budgets that they do today, either. All in all, they just didn't have the resources to conduct this kind of investigation, especially for a cold case.Hopefully it'll be solved one day.

@@MsGenXodus Sorry, but I'm not buying that. There were countless cases all over the country, even long before this case, regardless of how "rural" the area, where divers were used to search for cars, bodies, etc. Especially when considering the fact a detective found paint on the rocks that matched the car. That fact alone was reason enough to hire a couple divers. No mention of them preserving blood samples off the gun either, for possible DNA testing decades later. Lots of blood samples from other cold cases decades ago that were of no help then, were tested decades later via the advanced technology of DNA, resulting in new evidence that resulted in solving many of these cold cases. I think it was poor & shoddy police work, pure & simple. Whoever was in charge, and failed to hire divers.....well, shame on them.

Did anyone ever state what the "estate" consisted of? Because he was the family member still living, everything - assets and bills - would go to him unless a will stated differently. @@jodyvance2374 Please don't imply the "tons of rocks" dumped into the river had anything to do with this event. All along the river huge rocks/boulders are dumped in the river to keep the river banks from eroding. It has nothing to do with any coverup! It's called ballast and is an ongoing practice and has been for many decades and vital to keep the river within its current banks.

I don't understand--in `59, a boat's anchor 'snagged' on something 'metal' and the two girls' bodies were found. Sounds like the car got jostled in the water by the anchor (?). Why weren't divers sent down there to investigate? Why was no effort at the time in `59 made to retrieve the car/bodies? It is as if police simply gave up!! WAY too many unanswered questions here; even if cops back then were of the "Mayberry" variety.

So.... for years people have searched for the mythical lochness monster but seasoned detectives and law enforcement take NO advantage of technological advancements to solve the disappearance of an entire family.... nor do they take in and process the gun as possible evidence or question the convicts? This is very sad indeed. The deceased family deserved respect and the fact that two bodies that surfaced did not bring on a full out effort to investigate further is very suspicious.

Lisa Gunnison this is a valid question. You have to know the setting. 1958, they’d just done a public cleanup of corruption in the government around 1956. It was a good show to the public. It was still there so when someone wants something hidden and overlooked, you can show the public you’re searching at one location and doing your job.

It's like saying why are people making ridiculous theories about 9/11 but ignoring actual evidence of how their government is connected to promoting Islamic extremism. Such as how extremism hardly existed before USA were arming and training extremists in Afghanistan in 80s against Russia. Then USA didn't care what was going on there after. Or how when Thatcher didn't like EU preventing Tories mistreating most British people, such as EU saying workers have enough breaks. Then secret service whistle blower David Shayler told how British government were going along with USA funding Al QAeda against Gaddafi. Now they're funding extremist groups in Syria against Assad and making up lies about Russia for speaking against it. While Britain and USA send arms to backward nation Saudi Arabia

Lisa, they're gumshoes. They wanted to believe Don was involved even though he was a continent away when the event happened and furthermore had no way of knowing his family's exact itinerary. Pretty obviously, either an accident or a common crime. I would consider who else might have a motive, particularly if Kenneth Martin was involved in any business dealings. But any explanation other than accident or common crime seems unlikely to me. If someone had a grudge against Kenneth, they would have gone after him individually, not the whole family. And how would anyone know exactly where they were going to be at any given moment, unless they followed them or had a network of spotters. All highly implausible. Maybe they could still find the vehicle, but what would be left of it? Probably only the frame, engine, transmission, bumpers and glass. These parts possibly could still tell investigators something, such as whether the vehicle had collided with some object beforing going into the water, or if it had been hit with gunfire through the windows. But to what end? Everyone involved is either deceased or elderly by now. Particulary, all possible suspects and persons of interest are either deceased or in their 80's.

And even now (the final part of the video), the cop says they now have technology to search the water without divers actually going into the water. WTF?!? Since when did they stop sending divers into the water looking for evidence? Are there now piranhas in the Columbia River or something?
@GlennaVan
@GlennaVan 3 жыл бұрын
@@goopah The Columbia River, because of its depth and its undercurrents, etc., is not the typical diving situation. Additionally, it is highly unlikely the vehicle is now remotely visible given currents and sediment would have covered it decades ago. Unlike a concrete canal, the Columbia River is not a set channel and is changing all the time. The vehicle, not designed to be a water vehicle, has likely deteriorated greatly as well as currents having moved it from its original location, likely multiple times. They are not even certain where it was originally, only best guess. At the time, divers did go into the river and were in great danger - the diving at the best time to have found anything was stopped when one almost lost his life. At the time, the river level was reduced five feet (no small feat for the volume of water!) to aid in the search. Of course, you are welcome to become a trained diver and look for yourself.

So as this went on, i kept waiting for them to describe the results of their search of the water beneath the area where they found the tire tracks, and/or the area where the two bodies were found...and now I'm sitting here at the end of it trying to wrap my head around the fact THEY'VE STILL NEVER SEARCHED IT. Wouldn't that be your first next move after finding the tracks, and I can't imagine the story even going on from that point without mentioning any dive, which apparently never occurred to anybody. Is it me, or WTF is wrong with these people? In fact I'd have been too embarrassed to even make this documentary, if I was a part of this group of people that have done exactly nothing about searching for the car in all these years. They make a documentary, but they don't dive the area for the car, it's unbelievable! The cops, the family, nobody mentions it---it's just bizarre, to me. And if they had wanted to, but somehow been unable, it would have been mentioned I'm sure. I just can't get over it. This is the stupidest, weirdest story regarding a disappearance i've ever heard, on account of this. I don't know what to make of it, and it's very sad and terrible. Poor people, lying under the water, and no one even goes to see, even after some of them float to the top, for Christ's sake! It's crazy! Oh yeah-- there was also that metal they thought they hit with that anchor, just before the two little girls' bodies surfaced. Everyone is critical of the son for not picking up the cremains but that may have been him who did claim them. I can see a family member waiting and hoping the rest of the family would be recovered so they could be laid to rest together. --- "The cremains of Susan and Virginia remained at the River View Abbey Mausoleum in Portland, unclaimed for over a decade after their deaths. On December 30, 1969, the urns containing their cremains were retrieved by an unknown individual. 🙏❤🙏 Rest in Peace, The Martin Family & Walter Graven for trying to find them. People are so quick to say negative things about the police these days, but the vast majority are good men and women, who really care about the people in their communities (It's why they went into law enforcement in the first place.), and they've dedicated their lives (and are willing to put their lives on the line) for us. Remember, after years of ongoing wars, many of our policemen/women are veterans, and have already sacrificed and fought for us (and lost brothers and sisters in arms, and carry lifelong, difficult memories, and physical scars) all so that we can remain safe and free. Now, as civilians, they continue to fight, and they deserve our appreciation and respect. Please talk to your children snd grandchildren about this (regardless of their age). They're being inundated with Leftist, anti-police, rhetoric and propaganda, at school/college, and on TV. And, we need to work together to put a stop to it. Thanks & God bless!

@Maine Mermaid people are so quick to say negative things about the police because the police have shown us that they are bot the good people the PBS channel and seas some street had shown us to be. The whole concept of the police force came from the slave patrol. You know these evil white men that would hunt down slave masters and some would find it beautifully to destroy that slave who was a black human being . The practice of the police force have not change since then . How is it possible for the same police force that Edgar j Hoover of the FBI took part in lying to the united states of America claiming that the United states didn't have a mafia operating on America sure. All because he was blackmailed for his part in playing up in gay trans bars dress in panties that he enjoy wearing . Just as the politicians if yesterday was in bed with the police and corporations of today. So instead of going out there and getting rid of mafia criminals. He decoded to forces on law abiding citizens who form a black panther party to stop the racism and corruption of politicians and they evil policies that only favor the rich. However because these where educated black men who dud not fear going to talk to the Puerto Ricans and the southern confederate flag wearing white community who was poor and suffering from the same evils of racism, corruptuon, lack of well housing , schooling, good food, police brutality. They implemented school lynches. What the FBI CIA,and local police diid by lying , murdering , charging innocent black people with terrorist crimes they created and implemented cointePro ,look up the word cointelpro. Then look up the corruption of the Chicago police force,Louisiana police force, new your city police forve , the laps police force , the Minnesota police force. In which police steal ,cash, drugs, and use that drugs to sell, or plant in other innocent citizens, police offices taken part in murder and enjoying killing black people and stating on tape that they can get you out of that murder. Police officers not arresting other police officers for driving under the influence, the fact that other police officers would not file reports or state that a wife of a police officers wss beating or in a domestic violencesituatuon. We will tell pur children about Elijah Mclain and innocent black 23 year old man walking home from a store,and was murdered by white men police officers and white men and women EMT. Who laughed at an innocent black man walking home from a store.We will tell them about how the majority of the police officers watch all white police officers beat Rodney King and did nothing about it in fact some join. I will tell my children and all the children all over the world who saw the murder of George Floyd that a white man find it fitting to put his knee on a man neck for that amount of time and a Vietnamese stand and did noting but held the citizens back .I am going to tell my children about the police officer who allowed Jeffrey Dahmer to go back in the house with an Asian Vietnamese boy. A grown white man find it funny that an Asian man was naked and has blood coming from is butt. Yet a 16 year old black girl saw this Asian man running for his life naked on a street and she screamed to her family to stop the car so she can go help. This black girl was refusing to let this Asian boy go but because of the white officers and this white gay man that even call this black girl a bitch The white police officers older than this girl had no sense or even any mercy for anyone other than is own skin color. The fact that the black community said that black women are going missing in a town and black writes was on the story that black women are going missing the whole white police department and the white writers abd newspapers claim that they could not substantiate the story . So they declared that it was bot happening. Yet several months later a white woman from the same area escape from a white supremacist who was upset with black lives matter and black people standing up for they children telling the truth about this country and how whitesupremacy was born and is implemented in ever fractured of the united states government system . I am going to tell the story of the black immigrant so was shot over 40 times on is balcony by the police in new York city. I will tell the story of the white man who decided to murders his pregnant wife because he did not want to live that lifestyle with her and the baby he wanted to be single. So he decided to bring in black men into his crime by coming to a black neighborhood kill her then blame a black man for carjacking . It was all over the news in Boston the police broke black men and boys legal rights by illegally searching them ,invading the house hold of black families. It became a big political trope for the racist claiming to get touring crime showing black people. I am going to tell my children the tail of bloody Monday in which black high school or college black children marched and did in fact got beaten by white police officers for they sit ins. Picture shows a police officer a white man of coursewho made sure to have his police dog bit that black boy in the middle of his cheese, they where beaten and place in police car and jails pack like sardines. They would take away they beds ,oikkows, as and still they would sing and declare themselves to non violence. However that nonviolence only made them more of a psychopath, full of wanting power and control. I will tell my children about the police officers who would pull over black and brown people and still wearing a police camera with two while police officer would plant marijuana in that Hispanic man car all because he wants to move up in the force and he would go back to his white family one , Italian and sit down and eat spaghetti and not give a sit about destroying an innocent person life. I will tell m children about a police forcw in which several of these white police officers all join together in they kkk club and in tis club they would bot go after criminals instead they would go after black boys And men who had no criminal record and gave them a criminal record so the wouldn't be able to get a job that would cost them to make a certain amount of money. Also not because someone decides to be a cop makes them automatically a great person because of they carwer. That nonsense went through the window when white Europeans claim that they came to bring Jesus and salvation to the Africans after they welcome them wiith open arms, That was the church and they was the most brutal and said it was ok to own another human being . These people become soldiers some because they are poor and they benefits would help better they life, like pay to go to school, some join to be able to see the world ,others join to actually go kill and murder and to be able to do it at war where they would get away with it. That doesn't make then great people because they serve in the mulitary. Also many of soldiers who are married was having sex with people of other countries or other soldiers while married or have a girlfriend at home. Just like many join the military because the power and control they can have . many came out the military or was discharged and man have become criminals after the military. So when you see a military woman who pull a white talk police officer off of a black man who is already handcuffed and is in the car with one of his legs and this police man grab the suspect and says donot you mess with me and the female officer grab him from riffing up the suspect y his police belt and he turns around and grab this police officer by her throat and lift her up telling her donot ever so that again when she was actually helping him to not get charge with a crime and also to stop him from violating and hurting the suspect when he presented no threat to the police officer. Instead of the police officer men who was there and saw what that higher ranking police officer did to that female officer and did nothing for fear of losing or the higher ranking officer hating or taking you out of the blue line shows that they are no good officers especially when you see and officer violate a person constitutional civil rights and you protect that officer because you want them to cover your ass when you do wrong . Shows you are just as evik. Just Luke White supremacy and witness is continuing . bring that the poor whites and the poor blacks got along . Because white people was divided y they culture not by they whiteness so that terrified the new government and they wages plan so instead they decided if we give the white people just a little bit more and put them together as a class in whitness instead of they culture. So the itkains, Irish and others all wanted to be a part of that white class BUT am going to pretend I don't see what they are doing , theraci as n and inequality am going to pretend that am not racist We are not racist but you would vote for men and women to continue to practice and keep the practice of white supremacy going. So my sister and brothers always remember just because someone choose a profession doesn't makes them a good individual. Remember that anyone who see violence, racism,evil,and corruption and stands by and watch it is just as guilty as the evil criminals or person who proceeds to do it. Also don't give a dance if the person served or fly for the Queen Of England and served in the military ,went to the best if schools , or lives in a beautiful suburbs ,or attend church on sundays They can be a serial burglar that steals panties at night and become a rapist and murder at night.

Interesting that they were cremated, I didn’t think cremation was a traditional option back then. Cremate them and leaving them unclaimed. So very sad.

Regarding cremation: It would have been the kindest thing to be done for bodies in the water for months and then autopsied. Regarding unclaimed, that is not unusual for cremations even when family members are local. The gun was likely paid for at the time of theft; going back through charging/court records would reveal that. If the gun were returned to the store, then it being in that area would have been one of those really bizarre coincidences. The part I really don't understand was why the gun was not processed and kept in police custody when it was found.

@@GlennaVan Thanks for the mostly sensible comments I've read from you scattered among the responses to this case. You've helped answer many of my questions. I get the impression many peope haven't ever seen the Colombia River so they have no idea how big and powerful it is. Neither do they realize how rugged the gorge is, since it exists by eroding a huge volcanic dike hundreds of miles in extent. I haven't seen it since I was young in the late 1970's on my family's last vacation before my dad died of a heart attack, but I remember how rugged the area around The Dalles is. The funeral home had to do something with the bodies so cremation would have been the cheapest option. And whoever claimed the ashes would have to pay the cost. That might be why he never spoke about his family at all with his own wife and children. I know some could say that he was just upset over the loss etc. But considering the fact he never claimed the ashes of the two sisters that were found, it is just sketchy to me. And the fact that Don's children didn't want to talk about it all of a sudden. It's remarkable how often fate will expose a crime or details of it. What are the odds that the barge would drop anchor right where the car was? One of the most amazing incidents I've heard of is a guy in England who killed his wife and dumped her body, and then archeologists were doing excavations in the area and found an ancient body. The guy didn't know it wasn't his wife and panicked and confessed.

To whom would they match DNA? Or blood type for that matter. We are applying later technology to a time it didn't exist or was in its infancy. Even if you watch Perry Mason (fiction) from that era, the prosecutor says "blood type similar to" the suspect. Unless a blood transfusion was needed or one was donating blood, few people had their blood type tested.

In response to all the posts. This has been fun. I love that everyone is interested in this case. Just to remind everyone. JB Fisher will have a book released in August called Echo of Distant Water. In his book he goes into detail about the facts,the evidence, and theories that have good merit and some that have interesting connections. It is worth putting on your calendar to check Amazon for it. My book is fiction. It takes the facts and weaves a reason and then points a finger. It has to be a little sensational or who would read it. My book is Silent River and will be released sometime next month oh! This month.

Why didn't Don claim his sister's bodies? Why didn't he bury them? He left them in that mortuary for 10 years unclaimed, so that they were cremated. They should have dragged that river the minute those bodies were found, washed up. I think their son had something to do with arranging it, but I don't see how he could hate his sisters that way. Truly odd and sad. Please keep us informed of updates. Thanks.

I just don’t understand why when the anchor had presumably hooked the car in the river shortly after their disappearance, that they weren’t able to bring the car up to the surface by some means. I know now a days we are able to bring cars out of bodies of water, why couldn’t that be attempted back then?

It amazes me that they didn't haul up that car, when they found it and expected it to be a car. What's the logic of leaving it? Strange, the way investigations were sort of half done.

It came unhooked. They did try to find it again but were unsuccessful. They don't even know for certain it was a car, only that it was a heavy object. Read the Wikipedia article - it's all there and cited.

I haven't read every single comment, so maybe someone else thought of this also: Perhaps the son ran afoul of the mob, and the mob offed his family in revenge, This could possibly help explain how the gun got there, the presence of the two cons, the inept investigation, and the son's children's reluctance to speak.
