The symbolism is striking. A 20 year old youth, ignorant, misguided, possessed by evil, disconnected from real relationships. A 50 year old father, protector, deeply intertwined with people in his life, giving himself up. May Corey’s example of loving the Lord and his neighbor with his life be a seed that will produce fruit a million-fold. It’s a message for men, there are two paths before you, choose today!

Interesting to see how the intervention of God in saving trumps life if front and center yet we can’t help but to acknowledge that God chose not to intervene in the saving of the life of the husband their protecting his family. Hard for us humans to fully comprehend the reality of God’s sovereignty.

I agree that it is hard for us to comprehend God's sovereignty. For clarity and orthodoxy I think that his sovereignty involves much more than simply a choice to intervene or not intervene, as if all of the other events happen outside of his control. He ordrains whatsoever comes to pass. That means every single event, yet he is not the author of evil. And he works all things together for good...for those who love him and are called according to his purpose

Absolutely! It makes no sense! HOW? did the shooter get away with this? Hmmmmm . . . Revelation 17:17 “ For God has put a plan into their minds, A PLAN THAT WILL CARRY OUT HIS PURPOSES” ALL 24:42 events now and in context of Revelation 17 equals God’s sovereignty over the World. Includes the evil & wicked. As you said Dr. Mohler, a lot of grief here . . . Thank you

Wonderful comments by Dr. Mohler on divine providence. I think we need to examine if political opposition to abortion is about following Christ or maintaining a beachhead established in the Republican Party. I recommend Jon Harris's most recent take- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLObfqWXv8isenU.html

So Corey is dead because of God’s providence? Or because God wasn’t provident enough?
@Fireproof1313
@Fireproof1313 Ай бұрын
Either God is provident or He isn’t. There is no “isnt providential enough” The word provident doesn’t give that option. Christians pray each day ,as we were taught, “Father… “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven “ . I share this in humility with the need to ask the Lord to help me to continue to trust Him when I dont understand why events happen. He is eternal and infinitely more knowing and sees the end from the beginning, i am finite in my thinking. May the Lord continue to comfort the family for their painful brief loss. They will see him again , in Christ Jesus.

Given the idea that some say God has ceased doing many things, how can a cessationist make a reasonable argument that God is directly involved in anything? He doesn’t speak anymore. He doesn’t heal anymore. He doesn’t do a whole lot anymore. It really seems too close to deism to me. I’m not saying that I am not advocating for full on charismatic ideas. But to be completely cessationist is too far. God can do what He wants.

@@joelappCessationism isn’t the view that God has ceased all activity. It’s quite far from that. It also is not the view that God can’t or does not perform supernatural deeds in the world today. It’s simply the view that God has ceased to gift people with the miraculous gifts we see displayed in the New Testament after the time of the apostles and the close of the scriptural canon. Calvinist cessationists have a very strong view of God’s activity in the world in his sovereignty and providence, and through his Word and the ordinary means of grace.

Dr. Mohler, I appreciate your view on the abortion issue but shouldn't the President respect the Supreme Court's decision to reverse Roe v. Wade, which is (to my understanding) what Christians had been fighting for, for decades? That Decision, which is you did not discuss, left the issue up to the states where it belongs and gives Christian citizens the moral and political responsibility to be active at a local level.

I think you're Calvinist in your theology. Not sure. But your comments here confirm that I am correct, at least on some level. You seem to be affirming that God's sovereignty is executed in such a way that no detail in human existence occurs apart from his will. Not quoting you, but you imply that Trump wasn't killed because God willed it. He survived, then, due to divine intervention on his behalf. God willed that he turned his head when, and in such a way, that he was merely grazed by the bullet. That was a good thing, you said. But there was a man who did die, maybe the bullet that missed Trump. I don't know. Regardless, a bullet from the young man's rifle hit him in the head. That was a not a good thing, you said. But God rules sovereignly down to the last detail, correct? God was then responsible for both occurances - one good and one bad. How, then does this comport with the Christian belief in a good and loving God? Can God be responsible for evil and still be good? This is why I'm not a Calvinist. I can't begin to comprehend God. But the Scriptures teach that he is good and loves humanity. My consolation and hope are not grounded in a deterministic God, but in one who promises to never leave me or forsake me, especially when my life in in crisis. I don't know why Trump survived and Corey Comperatore did not. I don't know why Trump's family is rejoicing now and Corey Comperatore's is in deep grief. But I do know that God is present to comfort them and see them through, because God is love.
