it was devastating to people already beyond average life expectancy age also to people with severe diagnosed or undiagnosed health problems, for everybody else they were devastated by incompetent leadership .

This talk of 'War Footing' is unhelpful; it infers that suddenly we will be free. Not so. Coming out of this pandemic will be a slow, gradual process.
