I’m not sure what the law says, but I think fire drills should be MANDATORY by the state. I don’t think people quite understand the seriousness of having fire drills. Parents trust that schools will protect their kids, so if they don’t have a plan to get the kids out of the building, that to me would be a major problem. Plus, some states allow victims of fires to sue if there were no plans in place to keep them safe. That’s just how legal liability works. I understand people can be frustrated with the disruptions and hassles of fire drills, but I just think it’s better to be prepared in case there is a fire. I think as a society it is very easy to make the assumption that fire drills don’t have any meaning behind them, but that’s just not true. I know where I live in Maryland, it is mandatory to have a fire drill quarterly; this means at least four a year. I feel like our world would be so much better if people educate themselves on the importance of preparing for emergencies. Most deaths are preventable and we as humans should want to help save lives in the event of a disaster. What do you all think about all this?

National Fire Protection Association(NFPA) requires one drill a month.
