Preview of a stock specialized pitch comp 1x. Bought it today, no modifications.. yet. This is my first “real” mtb. I’ve spent hours reading and trying to decide on what brand/model to buy. You can cut the seat post down a lot. That’s what I did. I have the 2019 pitch comp, and other than the forks, and drivetrain, this is a great beginner hardtail. My drive train is 3x9, which isn’t exactly what I want, but having hydraulic brakes, and a solid frame with the internal cables make it a super clean setup. A dropper post would be ideal, but if you’re on a budget, just cut the bottom of the post. It works great for downhill, and climbing is as easy as flipping the clamp.

Look into the MicroShift Advent if you're on a budget. I moved it to my gf's bike because I got the NX Eagle as a birthday present. I got lucky... but if that didn't happen, I'd still be completely happy with the Advent 1x. You could probably get a decent crankset and bb on amazon + whatever the Advent stuff costs

Great video. I like the color options of these newer Pitch models. I saw you got it from Eastern Shore Cycles they are a great shop.

Depending where you are, goat head thorns will destroy those tires. Just replaced 4 tubes on our pitch comp 1xs with slime brand tubes. Hope that helps.

Could cut your seatpost down to make it fit better, and go lower. Simple circular pipe cutter would be perfect.

In case I decide to sell the bike in the future (unlikely) I'm trying to avoid and cutting or drilling. Also, plan to install dropper post that should lower the saddle a couple inches. Thanks for the suggestion!

I don’t think the rear wheel will have the clearance. From what I know, if you buy 27.5 then you have to use 27.5 wheels. If you want 29er in this brand check out the newest rockhopper, it comes in 27.5 and 29. Hope this helps!

Slate Frei I was lucky and got the last one at a local bike shop. I was planning on getting a giant talon 3 at another shop, but the shop owner sold the last one right before I got there! Good luck!

just depends on how hard you're riding. I probably would make any major decents on the stock set up.

I don't think any 2020 Pitch models come with a 3x9 setup. Might be a different year

Yeah, all are 2x except for Pitch Comp and Pitch Expert which are 1x

I have the pitch sport, same fork, and the fork is garbage. It’s too bad specialized specked the pitch with suntour forks. expect to replace it with a Judy immediately.

I agree, the fork is pretty garbo. I just upgraded to a Manitou Machete. Sooo worth it. Any air fork from rockshox would be a good choice too

How do you think this will compare to the Trek marlin 6?

Their frame geometry is similar. I'd still pick the pitch comp because of the 1x drivetrain. It's not the best 1x obviously, but it's a great one to start out on. If you're not planning on making any major upgrades right away, I'd probably pick the pitch. Slightly better components in my opinion, hope this helps!

I’m wanting to add a dropper post to my girlfriends pitch comp. how did you route your cable?

Mix of internal and external. It goes into the down tube then the cable curves up to the seat post. I zip tied the cable to the seat tube.

This one is a little over 29lbs, but I replaced the fork, which took off 2lbs. I never weighed it completely stock, but my guess is 31-32lbs. Sorry I don't have an exact figure, hope this helps!
