Acid volume ex-pands when it is heated and shrinks when it is cooled. When expanded, due to heat, it will not be as dense and will not raise the hydrometer float as high in the acid, and this will cause the reading to be low. When the acid is cooled, the acid shrinks in volume and becomes denser, which causes the hydrometer to rise higher and read too high.

This can occur if the charging voltage is set too high or if the charging current is too high. Undercharging: When a battery bank is not fully charged, it can cause the battery to become warm as a result of a chemical reaction that occurs within the battery. This can occur if the charging voltage is set too low or if the charging current is too low. High ambient temperature: If the ambient temperature is high, it can cause the battery to become warm even if it is not being charged. This is because high temperatures can increase the internal resistance of the battery, causing it to generate more heat. High discharge rate: When a battery bank is discharged at a high rate, it can cause the battery to become warm as a result of the chemical reactions that occur within the battery. This can occur if the load connected to the battery bank is too high. Internal short circuit: If there is an internal short circuit within the battery bank, it can cause the battery to become warm as a result of the current flow through the short circuit. It is important to note that a certain amount of heat generation in a lead-acid battery bank is normal during charging and discharging, but excessive heat generation can indicate a problem with the battery bank or the charging system. You arent supposed to measure specific gravity of a NiCad cell. It can also damage the hydrometer

Content looks like that of a theory book :)) What is the need for testing Absolute value ? When do we add acid or distilled water or charge ? Using regular water as u have shown will harm the battery ? Absolute 0 value in the practical world !

This is the Proper method and being followed at high voltage grid stations. In this video, the correct method of interpreting specific gravity w.r.t temperature is explained and nothing to do with absolute 0 value. Kindly interpret the video in proper context. @@theengineeringpower4213 yes it wasn't "absolute" i meant to say "specific". The point i was making is that with variation of temp there is such a small variation, with little practical impact. Also Freezing Point does NOT increase/decrease rather it is lowered or raised. Also no one should be mixing acids in food-bowls as u hv shown, instead in a deep plastic mug or glass jar with spout to avoid spillage and burns. Nomenclature and Images are important. I also understand that the sp gravity drops as the electrolyte gets discharged. The question is when to acid and when to charge ?

@@sanjaypatil2532 The bowl was just for representation. Indeed its a jar type in practical. The electrolyte is added to adjust specific gravity value if it is out of range as checked from time to time. Battery is put on boost charge when required as shown at end of video.
