Like some others have said, the procedure to disable avc is done during the binding process. Turning the gain down or making other adjustments from the tx will not fully disable avc. Here's the procedure from the manual if you want to give it a try: When you power on your receiver, press the Bind button 3 times within 1.5 seconds, then IMMEDIATELY press and hold the Bind button to put the receiver in Bind mode. Bind it to your transmitter. That's it! When you switch off and on your vehicle, the Receiver should flash 3 times to show that AVC has been disabled.

Ok there is no problem. There's a sequence. Earl the second the esc starts singing you hold full throttle. If AVC isn't at neutral it doesn't activate the receiver. Once it's active the esc starts to beep, you then start the castle calibration process. 😊

I have run into the same problem many times. You can do the calibration but you have to pull the trigger right when you hear the first beeps. Hold the trigger back like you did as you power the rc up, release the trigger and as soon as you hear the beeps start, pull the trigger again.

I am going CRAZY! I installed an XLX2 &. CASTLE 2028 motor in my OUTCAST 3 months ago. I have run it 2 or 3 times without a problem. Today I took it OUT. Got it all set up…no throttle. Until I saw your video, I hadn’t the slightest idea what was going on. I am using the original SPECTRUM DX3 with the stock SPMSR6100AT…I think? I am going to rewatch your videos, but I am SOOOO confused.

The video just started so Idk what ya figured out but we fixing to find out. I've had decent luck with most my Spektrum radio gear. I've even seen some videos on how to turn off the AVC inside the receiver. Anyhow thanks for the video Eman. Just turning it down on the remote doesn't "turn off the AVC" it's still active just turned down to 0. Maybe try physically turning off the AVC on the recover unit. I burned up a expensive 1/5 steering Servo before I found the video on how to turn off AVC. That said even with AVC off Idk any of my receivers will power up with the trigger at full pull.

Haven’t finished the video yet but I have had zero problems with the GT5 receiver paired with my castle esc. Cheap and easy. Just a thought. I’m sure you know what’s best far more than me 👍

Hey Earl try this out. Turn on the radio then plug in the battery to Rc then right when it starts beeping pull the trigger and it should calibrate. I hope that makes sense. So basically you don’t have to hold the trigger until it starts the boot sequence. That should work… I believe. 👍🏻✌🏼🤟🏻

I would just put the Spectrum 160 amp ESC in there. I have three of them and all three in different vehicles and all of them have the 6100 receiver , and I've had no issues whatsoever Spectrum works very well.

Put a regular spektrum 315 receiver in it Earl. Im sure you have a couple laying around!

Calibrate the reciver first once that is done calibrate the esc , turn on the esc first with out pulling full trigger, as soon as you see the orange light come on on the reciver pull full trigger then that’s how you go about it and get around the problem

Hi Earl. Very interesting. I had the same issue with Radiolink avc reciever to a MMX8. Difficult to calibrate. Futaba seems to work best (for me at least) with the MMX8 running a seperate futaba avc module.

Try delaying the arming time. The receiver will see the signal and give you time to as rc guy garage would say "Full trigga"

wait what?!i'm trying to figure out what ya did here, Earl brother. i have never had these issues. not once, not ever. i don't actively buy speKtrum SPM receivers but they are good and have some of the lowest latency at distance, so i've used them with castle, hobbywing, reedy, etc. As much as i hate the SLT radios the SLT receivers are fine if you bind them to a DX3 or better, because protocols. Still i've never experienced this problem, that's so weird BUT! i'm still taking notes!

I wouldn't say that castle and spektrum don't work together, because I have the mmx8s esc in my fireteam with the stock receiver (315). I have no issues!

This video helped me out tremendously Earl I did what you did in the video because from time to time my DX5C remote and the AR6100 receiver do actually end up un-calibrating from my Copperhead 10 Castle Creations 1/10th scale onroad edition brushless combo. It’s the 7700 KV combo that is rated at 2S-4S lipo. It’s a badass system. I can’t wait to see then numbers that I will hit on my Vaterra/Losi V100 onroad touring car. I have Contact Foam RC Tires on it. 37 shores front and rear 26 mm in the front 30 mm in the rear. I’ve been testing it on 3S just messing around and it’s easily doing 27-32 mph barely hitting throttle. It seems like foams are taking away alittle speed but they’ve made up for a ton of traction in comparison to the stock wheels. The stock Vaterra V100 wheels suck on 3S or higher.

I run this receiver in all of my speed cars and I run the Castle xlx2. To perform the throttle/esc calibration. Power on the receiver as soon the light on the receiver is solid quickly pull and hold to full throttle. Then continue the esc calibration. Once done you will have avc and full throttle learn.

I have had this issue with this receiver and castle on a vendetta. Switched to a Hobbywing sct esc old 4s esc same pro

Found this on Arrma Forum ,, Why does my ESC not beep and show a solid red when trying to calibrate with a Spektrum SR6100AT receiver? We have found that Spektrum has added a safety feature that interferes with our normal calibration and manual programming process. Our ESCs require you to power up the ESC at full throttle; the Spektrum AR6100AT receiver will not boot up properly until the throttle trigger is at neutral. The solution we have found is to power up the ESC at neutral, wait for the receiver LED to turn solid amber, then apply full throttle; this allows the receiver to boot up properly. WARNING: REMOVE Pinion gear or disengage motor from spur gear! You must apply full throttle BEFORE the ESC arms (double chime after LiPo cell count), but AFTER the receiver boots up and goes solid yellow. If the ESC arms and then you apply throttle the motor will run! We have found that waiting until the Auto LiPo feature counts the 3rd cell the receiver is operational and full throttle can be applied

Great video. Not trying to talk bad about your choice, but I would think you'd be running "high dollar" radio gear. Pretty interesting. I run a flysky myself, but I was looking for best value.

Use the 6200 receiver from spectrum there’s no delay also wait 1second before you pull the trigger on the 6100 receiver before you pull it. It may take a few try’s but it will link up you just have to be perfect with your timing

No do not go full trigger until the reciever lights up. As soon as the reciever lights up go to full trigger. Castle walked me thru this a year ago. Check the logs to see if you have 10 percent ❤

The Castle Creations customer service number I called was a funny call….. the first guy who is a Castle Creations tech by the name of Jason I believe claimed that the AR6100 receiver and all Spektrum receivers in general tend to be “freaking crap” when it comes to using them with Castle motors and esc’s…… brushless that is…. Lol. Then I talked to another technician after him and his name was Joe. Joe was very helpful in comparison and got it working for me but then I realized that after 2-3 days of inactivity the v100’s copperhead 10 7700 1/10th system was Un-calibrated all over again. So I watched this video and wallah !!!!!!!…… MAGIC !!!!!!!!!. Now I know what to do…… but it is fucking bullshit that I would more then likely have to keep doing this because I have a Spektrum radio and receiver with a castle combo. My Arrma Infraction V2 doesn’t have any of these issues though because once again it has the Spektrum Firma brushless combo and not an aftermarket like Castle, etc etc. anyways Earl hope you have a good one. I saw your 100 dollar PayPal giveaway….. I could deffinately use an extra 100 lol. I have cash app and Zelle but my PayPal’s been inactive for 13+ years LOL.

Maybe try Manually turn off the AVC at the receiver. I have a feeling even with the hard AVC off the recover won't power up at full trigger.

Just found your video. Mine is doing the same thing and I thought the esc went bad. It worked at first then nothing.

i wonder if there is a firmware update for either piece of electronics to then let you go around so to speak or by-pass so then you can use whichever Rec to ESC combo you wish with avc or is there someone out there who has written there own upgrade/Hack and gone around this SMART but Not ESC ??? Interesting topic none the less as i now have some RC with spectrum electronics and both with avc .thanks for these videos Earl there ever so Handy to have the Knowledge in regards to the RC products we have :-)

Increase the ESC arming time to 5 seconds. Hold full throttle after amber light is steady.

Shit. I'm going thru the exact same thing with a DX3/SR6100AT and XLX2 Hydra in a ProBoat Blackjack42. Using the above Spectrum RTR receiver and transmitter from the kit. The receiver shows that the AVC is disabled, which makes sense in a RTR boat,,so apparently spectrum made sure the AVC was disabled before shipment???. If Castle would add the option of disabling the bec and just going off a receiver pack, you could have the trans and rec turned on and bound ahead of time, then pull the trigger and switch on the ESC and continue with the quick start routine. Then disconnect that mess, re-enable the BEC, crank it up to 7-8v to the receiver. Maybe, just maybe, a ridiculous stupid backdoor. I have a Dual Density R603FS sitting here NIB, if all that doesn't work. I know Futaba 2.4 stuff goes almost immediately hot as soon as it is switched on. It would outrun the castle esc on startup and prob be fine.

I've had this same issue with my xlx2 and dx3. I know raz posted a video with a xlx2 and avc turned on. I feel like mine bound up when I put it in first and did a castle software update now it will not bind throttle ep's

Hey Earl, unrelated to the video, but did you have any bellcrank clearence issues with your chuckworks drag slash chassi? Im using the traxxas aluminum bellcrank. Also did your stock servo link work? (the one going from the servo horn to the bellcrank)

Had the same issues. There is a post somewhere from castle advising how to calibrate with Spektrum Radio gear. Think wait until receiver light is amber. But I wasn’t convinced it calibrated correctly and ended up switching out the radio gear.

I’m going trough the same issue,2 different castle esc with the avc 6100, it has something to do when calibrating the Castle when you need to take away the power with the switch on and then shut the switch off and then connect the battery again to calibrate when the power is taken away,it loses it bind, so yeah your not going crazy,I have the same issue to the t. And another thing it seems like it takes forever for the receiver to power on

I’m stuck with this, EVEN with NON AVC spektrum receivers. Can’t use my spektrum remote with castle escs Period. Guess there was a reason I ditched castle a while ago.

My spektum receiver work fine until I did a rebind now I got the same problem as you. I'm going to try and separate RX battery to get the thing binded again with my transmitter. If that doesn't work I'm just going to slap at spectrum ESC I have laying around in there to get it working. Like I said it worked perfectly fine until I went and tried to rebind the transmitter and Rx. Why oh why do I mess with things that are already working perfect???

Daang wow talk about revelation... I have a flysky gt5 with the avc on my kraton 8s with xlx2. I have been having non stop similar problems for the last year also. I wonder if it is just the the avc from any reciever doesn't work well with castle??????

Earl, they do work with castle esc I have all mine with castle esc, The trick is as soon as you see the reciver turn orange before the esc finishes its armingdo the full throttle full brake right left but you have to do the calibration as soon as the orange light comes on, on the reciver before the esc finishes arming you start the calibration process

I guess I am having the same problem with my copper head 10 for a system. I just got it will not allow me to change the brakes setting and right now I have no brakes and also makes a weird noise in the motor every time I power it off I have to switch the wires around on the motor because it will not let me switch the motor rotation through the transmitter. How do I know there were so many issues that you have to dig through to get a proper running vehicle I would not have bought the castle. I do not want to get rid of my AVC the car works great but I have no brakes and it is a speed run vehicle gotta have brakes! Has there been any solution found that will allow you to run the spectrum DX3 with avc? I can even get into programming mode and fall trigger works to select different parameters, but reverse does not do anything when trying to deny a certain setting! I’ve been tinkering with this thing since 5 o’clock this afternoon when Amazon dropped off the ESC to be honest if I knew it was this difficult I wouldn’t have bought the speed controller. I’ve heard such great things about castle right now I’m throwing my spectrum system back in!

I had the same exact issue castle told me to power on watch for thr receiver to go soild and at that exact moment pull full throttle and calibrate as normal

What if you powered the receiver with a nitro battery pack before powering up esc, after rx connects them pull full trigger and plug esc in

I had the same issue with my xox2 in the same receiver in my dbxl e 2.0 it made me so mad I just went and bought a brand new 315 receiver and threw it in there

Disable the AVC calibrate the speed controller then reactivate to AVC.

If I change motor and esc ...Futaba or Flysky ....I never seam to keep any of the stock electronics ...have a pile of new /old stuff Traxxas, Axial,AE and on .. The box I call CRAP...lol

I took out the sr6110 and put in a basic sr315, the exact amount of channels I need for steering and castle. No fuss at all and I miss exactly 0 features on the fancy rx. I just want the shit to work, no fuss. That is ground zero, if you don’t have that your product is garbage and needs some work

You may want to try disabling the AVC altogether by doing the rebind procedure and following the disable AVC instructions. THEN try to calibrate your MMX8S. Hope this helps.

What if you use a bec or a reciever pack power on the reciever let it do its thing . Take the esc and remove the internal bec power from the reciever plug so you only have signal and ground then plug it into the reciever while holding the trigga and powering on do your calibration after power off remove the reciever pack reinstall the power internal bec wire feom esc back into the plug and in theory it would work i feel . Maybe not .. definitely an unnecessary step to have to do .

I'm probably wrong in this but I thought that castle had some kind of bypass for that similar to how in Motorsports you have dummy O2 sensors and stuff like that for tricktunes?? Early once again you bring up a genuine head scratcher but to answer your question about others having the issue I think it's most likely that they just say eff this controller/receiver and go to another brand as the solution. Just watching you fuss with that crappy scroll deal is enough for me to have gotten the dually out to run it over about 37 times lol

This is odd...I have a spektrum DX5C running all of my rc's with Castle systems, and I have never experienced this issue before. One thing though, I don't have a MMX8S in any of mine. But I can tell you that I do have an sr6100at in one with a Mamba X 6s and it allowed me to calibrate the esc after calibrating the AVC in the sr6100at. Also no issue with a sr6200at and a MMX6S
