My youngest daughter has Down Syndrome. Today her speech therapist canceled so I decided to video my doing speech therapy at home with her. We do use an ACC device to help her communicate and build vocabulary. I also have her engage in activates that will use her vocabulary like colors, shapes and counting. _________________________________________________________________

Great job Naomi! Naomi is doing great and you can tell it is from all the blood, sweat and tears from her loving parents! I have a learning disability(I know not the same at all). I do not think I would have graduated from High School with out my parents working with me when I was young. Lalani and husband (sorry if I misspelled your name) keep doing the work, it does work, it just takes time❤

Seeing you talk about her "talker app" helped convince my daughter to get her daughter who has down syndrome an iPad to help. My GrandDaughter is feisty and loving, she reminds me so much of Naomi. Thank you for all you do!!!

Really! Oh that is awesome. It's not a replacement, its a tool that helps them build their vocabulary and helps them avoid frustration. I was worried that it was a replacement. That was my concern. Ahhh I am so glad it helped!

Oh my goodness! That ending was hilarious! Thank you for sharing her speech therapy. Such great ideas! Ps. When did she start using the talker? My 4 yo daughter with DS is more verbal but it’s still often hard to understand her a lot of the time. Would you recommend a talker for her?… Or even just having her familiarizing herself with it in case it helps decrease frustration long term? Thanks!!!

i find it so interesting in down syndrome how it effects their milestones, for example. naomi is very good at the gross motor like walking and dancing and so on skipping and running around but her speech is very delayed, and i found that in many children that started walking little after 2 even, my son is 3,5 yo and doesnt stand only crawls. but his speech is very good, he isnt communicating with sentances but he has an incredible vocabulary so i didnt need much of sign language.,, but his muscle tone is shocking

Have you considered a special case that allows her to carry around her talker so that she has her voice at all times? Something sturdy, with handles. Love seeing Littles learning to use their voice 💜
@teijaflink2226
@teijaflink2226 2 жыл бұрын
That probably would be in the way when she's playing and maybe she isn't using it that often as her voice for it and i be nessesary yet and maybe her mother wants her to practise her speach and signs first. But good idea for the future if speaking keeps being too difficult for her.

Hi Keri, So we downloaded the app on her iPad until insurance approves the purchase of her final devise. It's been a 6 month process. Today was our last and final evaluation with speech. We show get a device, that is exclusively this app, with an awesome case in approx.. 6 months.

Okay, yes I should probably do a video on that. So I bought the Tobi app on sale for $.50. Pretty awesome. However the insurance and speech department is in the process of getting us a device, with only this app, with a better case. I have 6 more weeks. With the app we started with food, toys, colors and numbers. Plus some verbs like want and eat.

You need a more sturdy stand up case for the talker. It might be frustrating for Naomi how it kept falling back so many times when you or Naomi would tap something.
@LivingWithEve
@LivingWithEve 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, so this is the app for the iPad. It works, but we are in the process of getting one with the heavy duty cases. It has to be approved by the insurance, which is taking way longer than expected. And at this point, its not worth the money to get the case. Today was her final evaluation for the insurance. They told me that it will take only 6 more month to come in the mail.

How did you get the machine? Did u buy it, get it from insurance? I need this for my son he is 3 living with ds And my speech therapist gave us a photo of the buttons on the machine but my son doesn’t care to use it cause it’s not interesting to him it seems. He just throws it but this looks like he would enjoy it like she does! Please let me know thanks

My biggest struggle is my son has zero interest. He will do it for 3 seconds and then he’s done. We struggle with this in speech as well. She can only play with him but when she has a structured activity he turns off. Any ideas? He will be 4 in January

Sorry, genuine question here. Why are you teaching her to use the tablet instead of how to say and pronounce the words correctly herself?
@LivingWithEve
@LivingWithEve Ай бұрын
We do both. The tablet helps with visual, kinetic and auditory skill. It also builds literacy. I had the same question too but she is not attached to the tablet, she uses it in therapy and on occasion at home.
