She is one of the greatest vocalists we will ever witness.

Sohyang was recovering from a bout of pneumonia here, which would be why you hear the breath and a couple of tiny cracks. It's still one of my favourite performances even though she wasn't well. She had considered giving up singing due to all her struggles with her health and she disappeared for some months after this to get herself healthy.

No one gets upset about a reactor "going back" we love to watch it with you. Rewind as much as you like. I have seen this 50 times as have many fans. So you won't bore us. Enjoy. She was recovering from one of her bouts with Pneumonia and was advised to cancel this performance, but she refused to disappoint her fans so she went ahead. There are moments when the full power of her voice was not quite there, but, true to to her gifts, she still surpassed others who have performed this song. She is fluent in three languages; Korean, English, and French and reads Greek. She learned to speak English as a child watching the Disney Channel. That's why her accent is very American. This performance is the one that convinced her fans that she is probably an Angel. Cheers.

No matter what Sohyang sings, she injects life into you. She is the most extraordinary woman I know of. You can tie your behind to a piano and it will prove futile because Sohyang's performance will literally suck you into the emotion and power she exudes, piano and all! She is the most magical singer I have come across in my entire six and one half decades on this planet. Sohyang is a once in a lifetime singer. The guy in the video was Shane Filan of the Irish group Westlife. The television program was a tribute to him and his band, and every performer that night sang one of their hits. Westlife had a monster hit in the UK with "You Raise Me Up," thus Sohyang sang this in tribute to him. Shane told Sohyang that after hearing her version "the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up" and it was "amazing" and "outstanding!" Not hard to see why, eh? The music for the song "You Raise Me Up" was originally written by a Norwegian group called Secret Garden, while the lyrics were written by an Irishman named Brendan Graham. Mr. Graham saw Sohyang's performance and was absolutely thrilled by her rearrangement of the music and rendition, so he had the Irish embassy in Seoul get in contact with Sohyang to let her know that he felt her version was the best ever. Sohyang had to _really_ pull back on concerts after this appearance, and thought it might actually be the last one of her singing career due to the serious pneumonia. Thus the Irish embassy had a difficult time finding Sohyang but they did finally get a hold of her and delivered Mr. Graham's message. Other than this one performance, we know of only two other times Sohyang has performed this rendition of "You Raise Me Up," both in 2018. When she changes key there a couple of times near the end of the song and belts those high notes so powerfully, you expect her to actually lift off the stage and go into orbit! Yes, Sohyang is famous for throwing in everything and leaving it all on the stage--including the kitchen sink! Another ENTHUSIASTIC/FANTASTIC reaction to another MASTER CLASS performance from the PHENOMENAL So Hyang. Some time prior to this event, So Hyang had been released from the hospital, still recovering from her latest bout with severe pneumonia (eight times between 2016 - 2020). Her doctors advised her to cancel, to not talk, and to just rest. At the same time, she was experiencing vocal cord issues. So Hyang did not want to disappoint the audience. Furthermore, she believed her singing career was over, and she wanted to sing one last time. Afterward, she was readmitted to the hospital. So Hyang disappeared from public singing for nearly two years. When she returned in 2020, she proved that her vocal technique is ROCK SOLID. In 2024, not only is she aging in reverse, she sounds better than ever before, if that's even possible. Her vocal range is still RIDICULOUS and her breath control remains INSANE.

She speaks English as well as I do. She speaks English in her home. When she gets excited, like when someone brings her birthday gifts, it’s all English. That Shane Filen is a member of an all Male group in the UK where they sing You Raise Me Up all the time. Just like when Michael Bolton was there. Also most all of her live performances are so perfect they do sound like studio recordings. On my opinion, she is the best female vocalist on the planet. She does not want the recognition or fortune. Sohyang’s version is very reminiscent of the original which is by a Irish duo, Secret Garden (not Josh Groban). You’re hearing a lot of Irish folk sounds (Enya vibe) with some gospel towards the end. Yes, she was very sick with pneumonia during this performance. She sang despite of her doctor’s advice.

Yes the breathing could not be helped as a few days earlier she was released from Hospital after coming down yet again with Pneumonia ( over about 2 1/2 year period she had 8 bouts of the dreaded Lung condition and was still having some trouble with her breathing! However the last 3 years she has had mostly good health!

젊었을 무렵 암 수술도 받으시고 폐렴도 8번 걸리고 점차 회복기간도 늘어가서 굉장히 힘들어서 방황도 하고 힘든 시간을 보내셨다고 해요. 30대 때 B형 간염에 걸려 앞으로 평생 매일매일 약을 챙겨드셔야 된다고 합니다. 간수치가 높아질까봐 스케줄도 최소화 하신다고 하고요.
