@@darthmalgus232it's the story of the 69' 24 hours at lé mans. It was Ford's first entry into the international endurance racing scene. It a movie so, of course, it has drama elements, but they didn't overpower the other elements of the movie. I enjoyed it.

Well said. It was the perfect Speed Racer movie for the fans but unfortunately that’s what lost them with the mainstream audiences. No compromises but not for “everyone.”

The only thing they don’t have is an insane espionage plot. Their espionage is relatively grounded. There is no mammoth car that’s actually a giant gold brick painted red.

@@voltronimusprime3833 yes, tons of gold was stolen from a bank. The authorities are trying to find out who stole it. They have a theory they’re going to use the cross country race (in which cars of any kind can freely join) to smuggle the bars away from the area. They thoroughly inspect every car. But one car is “the mammoth car,” a long series of trailers pulled by the front car, essentially a train on the road. The mammoth car seems like a state of the art vehicle, with a kitchen and bathroom. The inspection yields no results. But during the race, Speed gets into scrapes with the car and the bright red paint chips off, revealing the mammoth was actually made out of gold all along.

Rex, in the cartoon became a spy & faked his death so his family wouldn't be connected to anything he did & his enemies wouldn't come after them. Racer X, The Masked Racer was his cover to be all over the world, working for Interpol, I believe. Racer X had a reputation for racing dirty 'cause there were a lot more crashes in any race he was in, but that was because his enemies were always trying to kill him. He was a much better driver than any of them and avoided their assassination attempts while still driving in the race. They'd crash while he kept going so everyone thought he was CAUSING all crashes so he could win. When he was in a race with Speed, he'd do crazy skillful driving to protect him. Winning was not his major concern so he did let Speed win in order to protect him. One of my favorite episodes that stuck with me since I was a kid was when Speed acknowledged after he won a race, at the end, and everyone was cheering him & carrying him on their shoulders, he made them put him down & said that Racer X really won that race because he did some of the most skillful driving he'd ever seen. He ended with something like, "He's a far better racer than anybody...he's a far better racer than I am."

Nice. He also did Rex's/Racer X's voice too (which I kinda hear there). It was amazing that only 3 voice actors did all the voices in the English language version.

When I was a little kid I loved this movie. I’m 19 now (probably still a kid), and I still love this movie. That final race is amazing.
