Released in February 1988, Contra was one of the first of dozens of one-hit death run 'n gun shooters. Like all run 'n gun shooters there's a plot concerning a great evil (in this case the alien Red Falcon), but in the end everyone knows the purpose of the game is to shoot everything that moves while looking buff and manly. For those who stumble across these videos, a speed run is a video of a person or persons, completing a game as fast as possible using any means possible. This can include glitches, abusing in-game mechanics and skipping items or even playing events out of sequence.

This is probably due to them testing the stream to make sure the people connected are actually seeing it, vs. attempting it when the run starts and all hell ensuing, plus they have good commentary sometimes before the game starts.

SurvivalHorrorMaster Yeah, he had to use the facilities, look how fast he moved. How did the crowd feel though after that? How did the runner survive? Typically, people can fart when they're extending themselves in physical activity, for this person the simple activity of standing up resulted in the noise.

There wasn't any internal bleeding. Getting physical fatigue from speedrunning Contra is a thing though. Heidman mashes anywhere from 12-15 presses per second and he did several hours of attempts on consecutive days for a short stretch once. He had some visible bruising in his arm and he had to take a break for a little while.

When you're playing a Contra game, it's actually to your benefit to not use turbo buttons in Contra, because you need a good rhythm to your shots, and turbo buttons fire 3 shots at one time, like 3 shots, pause; 3 shots, etc. Not very beneficial.

Why do you leave all that time in the beginning before the run starts instead of at the end?? When I want to watch on the PS3 there is no option to fast forward or click on an annotation so I am stuck just sitting watching nothing happen for 10 minutes if I want to ever see this video

As zallard1 told you, you don't have a legitimate time, you have simplified the run and you only had to memorize jumps because your turbo controller handles the firing. Plus, Mister___K is in the middle of a cancer-fighting marathon, he's not necessarily trying to go for the absolute best time. Even though your comment is like a year old, nice try, bud.

people moving around, people having full conversations while the runner is speaking, you see the entire room pay attention to anything but the runner, kinda disrespectful. It was still a good run of a classic Contra if you just ignore the entire room. He should do this run again for 2019.

No, Spread is as good as it is because of the wide dispersal, the number of bullets on the screen is way less important. And the wide dispersal is the very reason why you have 10 shots on the screen at once instead of 4. Use your brain and think! To put it another way, knowing that there is a limit to the number of shots that can on screen and that Spread is the only gun that can reach that limit is actually a fact that if relevant would make Spread less useful than another gun but because it is the only gun that can reach that high and because being able to shoot in a wide dispersal pattern is so useful that the fact that there can only be 10 shots on screen isn't enough to reduce to reduce the usefulness of spread.

Wait what? Did you even watch the video? You're saying that Spread is bad because it's the only gun that can reach the shot limit...? He is manipulating the game so that spread is shooting 1-3 shots in line instead of 5 wide. You can then spam a line of nonstop shots that goes as fast as you can press the button. No other gun can shoot that fast.
