Wes, I enjoy your videos very much! They are very informative. I am a country girl at heart and find great pleasure in learning the different aspects of farm life. It seems to me that though it's one of the hardest jobs, it's rewards can be great. It seems to be a dying craft here in Arkansas and it saddens me. I hope one day to have a farm of my own and experience it all for myself!

I was curious as to the outcome of the CNH Speedrower since we all knew the dealer would be out on TU. Glad they hauled it away and hope for your sake, CNH makes things right in your eyes. Don't be surprised however, if they don't. I know all too well about Corporate bottom lines and bean counters. And I totally agree with the logic of two wind rowers. When you have as much to mow as you do, it makes complete sense to have 2 machines going at once. You make hay when the sun shines and around these parts that could be a very limited time frame.

These Companies really need to stand behind the products that they are promoting. I don't think most people realize how many hours farmers work. One of the reasons I left agriculture to chase a dream is 100 hours a week for low or no pay. Now that I am a professional photographer and photoshop has ruined professional photography I find myself working 100 hours a week for low or no pay. I am starting to wonder if I should go back to farming. Great video keep up the good work.

Good move Wes going to 2 mowers ,the big M great machine but you need big paddocks to get the best out of it ,100 acres or more , which you don't seen to have where you are.Hope you do get a JD and something else to run together and see what performs the best.

Just hopping on to say I am happy to hear that you'll have some closure (of some sort) on this POS machine you got stuck with. My only advice would be to make sure that any future video you should make mentioning this event include the words 'New Holland Speedrower 240' in them so that other farmers might search and find them so they to can understand the problems with this poorly designed piece of 'equipment'. Experience is something that needs to be shared and you have an excellent conduit of experience to help others now and in to the future.

Onelonelyfarmer, you need to look into a Macdon machine. Built in Canada. Up here, Macdon machines are everywhere. For road travel the new swathers turn the drivers seat 180 degrees (Much like a backhoe) and you drive it down the road backwards. Ive never driven one myself, but its supposed to be the answer.

If you still have an appreciable amount of hay to cut this season you should go to the JD dealer and ask them to bring a used 235 out and let you finish up with it. If it works out to be a good machine then talk with them about that machine or another when you have the hay up.

Hey Wes have you ever considered a Ford NewHolland Bi directional tractor with a 16 foot header in front ,and a 14 foot center swing behind? Then if the tractor goes down you can still use the center swing behind any other farm tractor and keep mowing grass.

You can come up with money and I bet you handle more cash in a day than I'll ever see in my life. I'd also bet that most of that money goes right back to the farm and equipment. My Father in law has a dairy farm that just about pays for itself. He doesn't know another life though so he keeps running it. At the end of the day if you're doing what you love and it keeps food on the table and a roof over your head it's a blessing.

A Krone Easy Cut B 1000 (Butterfly) would fit the bill perfectly. This way you could double the width with one tractor which can be used for other things when not cutting. You can run it with a 200 HP tractor and be narrower than the self propelled units for those trips to distance fields.

@JerryBeatFreak

Sisu is a Finnish word generally meaning determination, bravery, and resilience. However, the word is widely considered to lack a proper translation into any other language. Sisu is about taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity. Deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision against repeated failures is Sisu. It is similar to equanimity, except the forbearance of Sisu has a grimmer quality of stress management than the latter. The noun Sisu is related to the adjective sisukas, one having the quality of Sisu." Straight from Wikipedia...I hope you're a Finnish speaker, because you just corrected a person that is. Also, fuel and oil filters isn't going to fix shit if you've actually broken or bent something on the machine.

Do they happen to make headers where the guard sides have hinges to flip them on top to reduce the width for transport like some tractor front mowers? I know it would be a pain to set up each time but couldn't you buy the biggest header and make a trailer for it like a combine (you would cover more ground quicker "3 in might not be a lot but X it by how many times you go up and down a field and I'll bet it will be a substantial number" and also it would be easier to drive on the road + less wheelies when you stop ;-) ) onelonleyfarmer Hope you'll have more luck with what replaces the 240, all the best Arwel

Let's see, one operator, one big m, or what - three operators, and three wind rowers (think that is the swath difference). Well, if you don't think you're ready, and have the spare operators.... Sorry Wes, I think your ready, but I'm not a farmer, I'm a trucker. Equipment isn't personal money, equipment is operating expense, business money. If anything, the value of the equipment could be used as a gauge of business strength, there are additional considerations, but at a glance. Glad you took your mind off the 240 for a bit, you seemed to be a little too involved in the difficulties, and I was starting to worry about your health. There are many facets to your operation, I know it's obstructing the biggest part, but your intelligent enough to get it resolved eventually. I'm not saying that new Holland shouldn't compensate you for lost productivity, but we need you to be fit enough to look after your younglings, and get the job done when you do get the equipment you need. I'm just asking, so don't take this as a challenge, but, is it really that much extra work to get a big head for the wind rower, and use a header trailer? I mean, once you setup the machine, it seems it shouldn't be too hard. I'm just thinking 15 ft to 20 ft is a bit of time knocking down grasses. And wouldn't it be easier going down the road? Perhaps you would want to consider one machine with a big head, and one with a small head, and see what you want to do when it's time to replace them again. Too bad I haven't heard of anyone making a wind rower that will either belly carry the head for transport, or that can extend, rotate, and retract the head under the belly without disconnecting the head. It would help road manners - lower center of gravity, and reduce road width. Oh well, maybe you'll rig up a belly carry system for one of yours once they prove not to be defective. Hoping for better times wes.

the BIG M is $500,000.00 i could buy 3 wind rowers for less than that i don't have to run all 3 but two is no problem 30ft on the ground with the BIG M and the same with 2 wind rowers. the difference is when it breaks the big m will put me out till the parts get in the wind rower will only slow me down because i will still have a spare to run with,
@bigtrucker26

Yeah, I caught the half mil mention in the vid., As I said, i'm a trucker not a farmer, and it's your operation. I thought the M had a 45 or 60 foot swath, oh well... Your the one that will use it, and get others to use it. I just thank you for the video peak into the life.... There are all kinds of efficiencies, if that's what you think you need, then that's your business. Any chance of a onelonleyfarmer belly header carrier mod in the future?

@onelonleyfarmer 10 жыл бұрын

@bigtrucker26 10 жыл бұрын
onelonleyfarmer That would depend on where you hung it from, the weight would be the same, and depending on how much stuck off the front would determine weight distribution. I'm just thinking, you drop it on the ground, then drove over it, and picked it up... I would think it could work.... Maybe a secondary hitch mount, so you could just re-use the arms to carry it, just 90 degrees to operational.... May even be better, because you would only be modding the head, as opposed to the head and a secondary lift system to the power unit.... I don't have the measurements for the arms tho........... could help keep the back wheels planted in road travel too......

Hi Wes Thats good news on the speed rower, Really hoping it stays good news, if JD won't give a discount on the machine they have ,Get them to throw in a 12v transfer pump. I really felt sorry for you watchin you crank that thing for near 10 mins,over a season that's probably a few hours down time if you work it out just pumpin fuel in machines. My Valtra 2000 6400 has 8000 hrs on it's 4 cyl turbo Sisu motor now, never had any work apart from service and routine maintenance, and still goes like a smacked rat with loads a power. Thats the whole reason Massey bought Sisu / Valtra equipment out, when Perkins was sold to the pussy power company L.O.L. They needed something else good to pull the Masseys butt down the road! Hey Wes why don't you have an electric fuel pump in that truck makes fueling enjoyable even though you are getting one hell of an arm workout haha. I say just keep the case new holland gives you the difference in money between the 240 and your old case you know it's reliable and will get the job done go get a deere and run that and just be happy I really don't think you should take a first year new holland speed rower especially with what just happened

Part of it is THIS- when you have an electric fuel pump, you start filling and then try to multi task- like greasing bearings etcetera- and run fifty dollars of fuel onto the ground because you're not there cranking it in.

Have you considered buying another Case and paying to have it rebuilt? 2008 Case for about $65K and pay $30K to rebuild it to original specs PLUS any mods you require..

Big News Coming? Let me take a guess.... Did the 4960 get all repainted and is about out of the shop? No vids or word about it for a spell now. I'm wondering if she's got a new coat of paint and shines now.

Well the ball is now clearly at the foot of CNH BUT will they do the honourable thing to resolve the situation? I have severe doubts as I think they will wriggle and persist in trying to do the right thing. However they cannot totally ignore the power of the Internet on such matters.

I've often wondered why farming equipment is so expensive? Like a John Deere tractor. Do really you get what your paying for in terms of quality?
@Foxrider67Dawson
@Foxrider67Dawson 10 жыл бұрын
What isn't expensive anymore? We just picked up 3 new diesel pickup trucks for our farm and spent $245K (That's with deals/discounts). Odds are 1-2 will have issues before any of our older trucks.

Craig H yep even if the machine is a good one, the dealer system has been absolutely destroyed and it's embarrassing. So I am with you stay away at all cost even though old new Hollands are good having a good dealer is half of owning a piece of equipment. Every machine will break down and if it's hard to get parts fuck ut
