The incomparable duo of Speedy West & Jimmy Bryant burning the Hometown Jamboree down with their own number, which would later be recorded as 'Cotton Pickin'. Hold on to your hats!

Driving from San Antonio to Marfa Texas not too long ago, we stopped into a little mom&pop gas station and they were listening to this album...keep hope alive, my friends...keep hope alive.

Jimmy was the first guy to ever own a Telecaster (Broadcaster at the time). Leo Fender and George Fullerton gave him the earliest made one and TV and Radio was the start of it. Soon everybody wanted one.

These guys still set the standard for hot electric guitar-steel guitar more than fifty years after they first recorded... that's amazing! Leon Rhodes and Buddy Charlton of the Texas Troubladors came close, as did James Burton and Ralph Mooney, and also Danny Gatton and Buddy Emmons.... Love the humor with which JB and Speedy played; they were clearly having a great time. Bryant had perhaps the most advanced right hand picking technique ever, and impecable country-jazz chops and taste.

Conheci essa dupla através de uma entrevista que assisti em um podcast e estou muito feliz. Há muito tempo perdi a vontade de ouvir canções mas o espírito jovem e alegre, apesar do virtuosismo, desta dupla me fez feliz novamente.

This was Cliffie Stone's Hometown Jamboree. Cliffie's dad, Herman the Hermit, played stand-up bass every week in the house band. Ernie Ford made his 1st TV appearance, ever, on Cliffie's show, and I can remember watching it that night. I also remember Mollie Bee's very 1st TV appearance, also on Cliffie's show. I also remember Cliffie, the 2nd week that Mollie was on the show, screwing up pronouncing her last name, and saying, "let's just call her Mollie Bee." Her last name is Beachboard.

Finally! Some one put the whole clip on! I have a copy of this on a VHS tape that I haven't been able to play in years! Your copy is quite clear, but the tracking gets funky in the same spot as mine. A friend of mine has a very clean tape of this - he claims that he got it from Cliffie Stone's wife. Anyway, the internet is forever grateful for your work, Pappy...

thanks for this clip these two guys were so fantastic it's hard to believe even when you see it! Jimmy Bryant has been a huge inspiration for me as a guitar player (I'll never get anywhere near his level, though...) and the sheer take-no-prisoners musicianship of Speedy and him as a team makes me downright speechless.

Thanks for sending, vladgomek, it's real fun seeing these guys playing together, and as you say: this is lot's of improvisation going on and could well be placed in a nice Jazz context, they certainly would be able to handle that, very nice Vid with historic value, greets Vic.

The source of this video is a kinescope so the quality is so-so even if you had the film print itself, HJ an Cliffie made this recording for a special Armed Forces film to entertain our soldiers, at least that is what I read once. The complete original has a lot of songs and musical skits of the various performers that worked on the Jamboree and of course Ernie Ford steals the show for the most part.

This is what "country pickin' " is all about. That kind of music is fast becoming a lost art because modern country music is all about the next "country/pop crossover" hit and getting behind the next Taylor Swift/Carrie Underwood/Shania Twain to come along, and forget about actually learning your craft as a musician or singer/entertainer. Support people like Junior Brown and Brad Paisley (a real throwback if there ever was one).

This is a very early proto Broadcaster (1 of 3) Leo gave to Jimmy to test it and to play/show this guitar on Television. (brand new medium at the time). Leo was hoping it would get a little popularity. At this time, sales still had to start!
